Scope of Work for Transport for Wales Accelerator 2023 

MARKED: Wayfinding System 

Project Overview: The project, led by orchy.co (Garance & Mark), focuses on developing a new generation of cycle wayfinding systems. This initiative was part of the Transport for Wales Accelerator 2023 programme, run by Alt Labs, and aimed to enhance bike and scooter share schemes in Wales, fostering behavioural changes necessary for mass cycling and tackling climate change.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaboration with Transport Bodies and Local Authorities: 
  • Work closely with government entities and stakeholders like Gwyn (Active Travel Lead - South East Wales) to align the wayfinding system with public sector innovation and active travel goals. 
  • Regular consultation and collaboration with stakeholders to ensure the system meets the specific needs and expectations of Welsh communities. 
• Innovative Technology Integration: 
  • Implement cutting-edge technology in the development of the wayfinding system. 
  • Ensure the technology is user-friendly and accessible to a broad audience, enhancing the overall cycling experience in Wales. 
• Stakeholder Engagement and Mentorship:
  • Engage with mentors like Matthew and Russell from Alt Labs for expert guidance and professional insights. 
  • Utilise the mentorship for refining the project approach, ensuring high-quality deliverables. 

Key Deliverables:

• Development of a Comprehensive Cycle Wayfinding System:
  • A prototype wayfinding system designed specifically for cycles and scooters in Wales. 
  • Integration of user-friendly technology to assist cyclists in navigating efficiently and safely. 
• Final Project Presentation:
  • A demo day showcasing the journey and outcomes of the project to Transport for Wales and other stakeholders, offering them the opportunity to showcase their ideas directly to senior TfW innovation managers and industry leaders.

Alt Labs demonstrated exceptional project management skills throughout our collaboration, - The responsiveness of Alt Labs to our specific needs was exemplary. They displayed an impressive ability to adapt to changing requirements. - Matthew and Russell, in particular, were proactive in understanding our objectives, often anticipating our needs before they were explicitly communicated. 

Overall, Alt Labs displayed outstanding project management capabilities. Their approach was characterised by timely deliveries, exceptional responsiveness to our needs, and a clear commitment to the project's success.
