Steven J. Ratkov who was in the U.S. Navy until an honorable discharge in 1946 worked for Briggs Manufacturing as a cost clerk until 1948. He then worked in real estate and sold insurance in Roseville, Michigan. Steven began preparing tax returns professionally after completing an Income Tax Course offered by the Walsh Institute of Accountancy in Detroit in 1949. Steven married Sylvia (Gruszczynski) a year later in June. They had five children: Christine, Rosemary (deceased), Steven, Thomas (deceased), and Kathryn. Steven acquired land on Gratiot Ave. in Roseville, MI in 1955 which became the Ratkov Insurance Agency building. He named his tax business the Steven J. Ratkov Income Tax Service and then shortened to Ratkov Tax Service. Steve continued to sell real estate and insurance on top of preparing income tax returns for customers.  70 years later, Steven's children continue to run the business under the name Alltax Income Tax Services. And they continue to conduct business, as Mr. Ratkov did for many years, ‘The Hard Way.
