Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the president of a parent-teacher organization.
What challenge were you trying to address with Alice Wonder Web Design Studio?
We were trying to improve our communications and allow parents and other caregivers in our community to access information. To do that, we hired Alice Wonder.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Initially, we had a discussion and went over what we were trying to achieve, what was important for us, and what we wanted to highlight throughout the website. Alice Wonder then started working on our website’s initial design.
We had a 10-year-old WordPress site that wasn’t user-friendly or intuitive. The team used it to get an idea of the types of information we wanted to share. They came up with a more modern template — one that was mobile-friendly. Apart from that, they gave us suggestions on what types of data to cut out and which were redundant.
Alice Wonder then started giving us a bunch of options and templates used in other educational nonprofits. This allowed us to get a good sense of how other people were using their websites and how they designed things. Then, we settled on a template that we wanted to use.
The team didn’t do marketing for us since we were only sharing information about our community. However, they did work on our SEO to make it easier for people to find us. On top of that, they provided training for our volunteer staff, creating tutorials on how we could maintain and keep the site updated. Their members facilitated a session where we could ask questions to their developers and get some suggestions on maintaining the website.
What is the team composition?
We worked with three people from Alice Wonder. The first one was the CEO, who helped us scope out and talk about what we wanted. Once we signed the contract, we worked closely with the project manager, who helped us work on the designs and plans. Our team collaborated with one of their developers at the last stages of the project to ensure everything was formatted exactly how we wanted it. For the training, we also worked with a developer.
How did you come to work with Alice Wonder Web Design Studio?
As a small nonprofit, we didn’t have a large budget. However, we knew that this project was crucial to our ability to carry out our mission. As a result, we started looking around for local companies in our area that did web design and development.
We were then referred to Alice Wonder by another organization, which knew that Alice Wonder had worked with several other nonprofits in the past. The team was uniquely suited to work with such organizations. Our team reached out to them and had a call to discuss our needs, budgets, and timelines. Then, Alice Wonder said they would support us.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent around $6,500.
What is the status of this engagement?
The project lasted from August–November 2022.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We don’t have quantitative metrics yet. However, we’ve gotten plenty of qualitative feedback — people said that the new site was truly an improvement over the previous one. They noted how mobile-friendly it was and how much easier it was to navigate and find information. Overall, the response to the new website was highly positive. A lot of people were happy about it.
How did Alice Wonder Web Design Studio perform from a project management standpoint?
Alice Wonder’s project management was good. They were great at staying on top of us. As a volunteer organization, we got truly busy once the school year started. Luckily, their project manager was always good at reminding us about the things we were supposed to provide them, such as photos and content. They were truly helpful and willing to work with us even when we were extremely busy. To communicate, we typically used email and Google Meet.
What did you find most impressive about them?
I liked that they spent a lot of time understanding our organization and what we were trying to do. They asked a lot of good questions, and this stopped us from going down the wrong path. For example, they understood right off the bat that we weren’t looking for e-commerce services or trying to generate more traffic. We were only making sure people could see and use our website easily.
Alice Wonder also understood that we weren’t trying to expand our group since we were limited to the parents and teachers in our community. Because of that, they didn’t spend any time talking about marketing. Everything was focused on our goals, and that was truly helpful. It saved us time and prevented any wasted effort. We were able to focus on what was most important for us.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, there weren’t any. We had a great experience.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Have a clear idea of your goals. If you’re not clear on that, make sure to leverage Alice Wonder’s expertise. They might be able to offer good suggestions. The team has a great process — they’re good at what they do – and it’s nice to have them complete truly important projects.

For what projects/services did your company hire Alice Wonder Web Design Studio, and what were your goals?
Our website was very outdated and did not conform to Rotary International standards based on rebranding guidelines.
Our overall goal was to build an attractive website that appeals to prospective members and donors.
How did you select Alice Wonder Web Design Studio and what were the deciding factors?
We searched online for a website development company and shortlisted four. We needed a company willing to work with a non-profit's conservative budget in a short timeline, and design/build out a site rendered in WordPress.

The Managing Director provided three WordPress templates with several color and design themes for each. After selecting the right combination, we started working with a Project Manager, backed by a Developer.
After getting the landing/home page complete, the team built out four additional pages, including a Contact Form.
How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
There were three people involved with our site. The assigned Project Manager was our main point of contact.
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
Membership, donors and the District Management team are thrilled with our newly re-designed site. We have received many compliments, especially from our President and Membership Chair.

We communicated easily by IM and email and never felt like we were hanging.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
Our Project Manger was very particular about everything, especially the photos to be used; content, sizing, resolution, placement - all were very important and each photo was carefully considered for use.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
Alice Wonder could address the after-build maintenance program in a little more detail. We prefer to do our own updates, but we will need some hand-holding to get up to speed with the latest version of WordPress.

What was the scope of their involvement?
Alice Wonder designed a new website for us and customized it to our specific needs, including ability to create student logins where they can upload application essays for review.
They are skilled at suggesting alternatives when they see that something different than what we request would work better for us. Alice Wonder continues continue to maintain and update the site to keep it running and maintain security as software changes, etc.
They are very responsive if an unexpected problem comes up, or to help us with quick changes needed – for example, making quick changes when we made business changes when the pandemic hit.
Alice Wonder also has a whole suite of tools and services for SEO and marketing that are more than we need for our local niche local market. If we needed it, however, we’d definitely use Alice Wonder’s services for those items as well.

Project manager and IT/ programmer that I know of – likely more behind the scenes.
How did you come to work with the vendor?
After an exhaustive search of website developers for small companies like ours that had good reviews, we met with three, iincluding Alice Wonder. Very quickly learned that most developers are more focused on their own long-term earnings from us (through marketing products) than on what we needed.
We chose to work with Alice Wonder because, although they offer the same marketing services and tools as an option, they are focused on leaning about and delivering what we want.

We are a small company with simple needs – so our initial investment was $10,000, and now we pay them $100/month for maintenance plus additional for further revisions or updates as needed.
