What challenge were you trying to address with AIsoft?

We were looking to have a site that was easy to manage. As someone that’s not tech-savvy, I needed a site where I could easily manage inventory and update products and their availability. We also wanted the site to be aesthetically pleasing and an easy shopping experience for customers. The site needed to look high-quality and catch people’s eye.

AIsoft built our website from scratch using Shopify. First, we had a discovery phase where they asked us questions; we set up a few calls for them to understand what I was looking for. Based on those conversations, they provided me with some examples to replicate. 

From there, they customized the site to my standards. As for design, we provided our logo and color schemes, and they helped us design banners. AIsoft also provided training on how to update the site.

Their communication was outstanding; they were very thorough and kept us posted. They always made themselves available so that I would give them top marks. As for tools, we used email, phone calls, and virtual meetings. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was impressed by how AIsoft well understood my concept since a lot of detail goes into a project like this. For example, I struggled with the designer who created my logo; it took many time-consuming revisions. The process was frustrating because I could see the logo in my head, but I needed additional creativity on the designer’s side. 

I was worried about this process with the website. However, it didn’t take much for AIsoft to show me an example of what I wanted — they nailed it early on. As a result, the website was one of the easiest pieces of my startup. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Although everyone has room for improvement, I can’t think of anything AIsoft needed to improve off the top of my head. Everything was smooth sailing with them. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

You should have a good understanding of what you’re looking for and be able to articulate it. AIsoft is pretty good at capturing your requirements, so I suggest preparing bullet points, color schemes, types of images, and some useful descriptions. They can nail your idea early on if you paint a picture for them.

We needed extra help with mobile app development in a quick fashion to market the product as soon as possible.

It was a back-and-forth process to communicate the features, screens, and capabilities we wanted for the product until it met our needs. Regarding technologies, they used Android, Java, and Zeplin to share the designs.

Their design was better than we expected, and their work also saved us a lot of time. Overall, the usability and look of the platform were great, and they did it in just a couple of months.

They delivered everything on time and led a good schedule by outlining everything step by step. In addition, AIsoft’s team was responsive to questions and change requirements, and I was delighted with that. Regarding communication, we used phone calls and email.

I’m the director of operations at AtmosFX, a holiday decorating company specializing in digital decorations; they’re videos that people can project into windows or other spaces. Our company sells digital video content and physical gear like projectors and projection screens to support the video content. We’ve been selling decorations online for over 10 years. 

I’m in charge of inventory management, web development, the customer support department, and a number of other tasks. My responsibilities include hiring and supervising third-party web developers.

What challenge were you trying to address with AIsoft?

Our business model presents many challenges for an e-commerce site in selling both digital and physical items, being able to message that fully to the customer, and supporting hybrid orders. We had previously worked with a firm where we had our contract on hold. They got busy, so we had to find a new partner to pick up where our previous provider left off. We hired AIsoft to help us with site improvements and to add new features to our site.

What was the scope of their involvement?

AIsoft added new features to our Shopify e-commerce site. They developed a search and filtering function for our website without third-party extensions. The team also helped us add implementations for our award system software with Smile into our checkouts and other parts of the website. Additionally, the team did general bug-fixing and helped us pick up and use behind-the-scenes site improvements we needed. They used Shopify’s liquid code.

Our primary contact was a project manager, and David (Partner & CEO) managed the relationship. Additionally, we interacted with an engineer on 1–2 occasions.

We found them on Upwork. AIsoft was a new company that offered competitive rates and had thoughtful leadership. We had very good calls with David, who pitched a great opportunity for us, so we hired AIsoft.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from March–October 2022. Our engagement is currently on pause, but we’ll soon begin another round of updates.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Our specialty is Halloween decorations, so our peak sale months are September and October. We had an increase of around 2% in revenue compared to last year during a year and season that was particularly challenging due to consumer confidence being down during political seasons and issues with inflation. Therefore, we're very happy with these results. 

AIsoft was able to add a search function without installing third-party apps, which helped keep our site running fast. Although they'd initially pitched a third-party app, their developers came up with an even better solution. Overall, we've been very happy with their service and are about to hire them again to take on additional tasks. We plan to continue working with them for the foreseeable future as we generate ideas and upgrades for our website.

How did AIsoft perform from a project management standpoint?

Since they're a small team, that meant less bureaucracy and fewer meetings, which was a good thing. We met with them over video calls as needed without a regular cadence, and they sent us weekly updates on the project's status. We could schedule a call whenever we needed to, and they were always available. 

We didn't use any project management software; we organized everything over email and conversations, making our work much more agile. As AIsoft gets bigger, they'll probably implement more of those tracking tools. For us, it was beneficial to keep things over email to run more efficiently. 

The project took us longer to publish than expected, which is part of the sacrifice of working with a team of their size and our budget. Although another firm might have done things quicker, they would have cost 4–5 times more. Therefore, I don't consider the delay a failure because the project was well-delivered, and we were happy with the results, price, and collaboration. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

As a small team working with a small budget, AIsoft is a great choice for any small company because they offer a lot of value for the price. Our needs weren't as drastic as a larger company that might need things more quickly and with less oversight. They did really good work with a very small team and had less formality around meetings and scheduling, which kept us agile — that's their benefit over other companies.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Better QA would be AIsoft's biggest opportunity for improvement. I had to do a certain amount of QA due to errors I found. If they had a larger team, they could have done that QA and found those errors themselves. However, it was part of working with our budget; we had to put in some hours too. The extra work is to be expected when working with a small team, so it wasn't a frustrating point because we foresaw it.

As with any firm, you should come up with a specific set of ideas and instructions for what you want. Having them will save you a lot of time upfront and help direct the conversation. 

When working with a smaller firm like AIsoft, I'd advise creating a detailed scope of work document with a list of the things you want to change. If there are broad ideas you want feedback on, make that known. When your scope is detailed, it's easy to create a task list and start working on it. I highly recommend AIsoft for smaller companies looking for talented developers who can deliver specific tasks.

We learned about them through word of mouth, from another local auto business who used them in the past. I wanted somebody we could trust to do a good job, that wasn't overpriced.

They planned, designed and then developed a Shopify store for us. They started by sending us a questionnaire and having a meeting to understand our needs. They then moved on to design the look of the site. Then they developed it and helped us get onboarded and live. They used Shopify and Figma for design.

There were about 4 folks from their team I think: owner (Teddy), project manager (Curtis), designer and a developer or two.

We haven't started marketing the site yet, so not measurable just yet, but they built a really nice looking site. Looks better than I had hoped.

What was the scope of their involvement?

AIsoft redesigned our e-commerce website. I provided reference photos and the website copy, and they created the look and feel of the new design. Our site enables users to purchase medical uniforms online and has Afterpay as a feature. 

The team developed a bundler feature where users receive a discount if they select a certain number of items from the same collection. AIsoft also created a feature for our most popular items. They used GitHub as a tool.

AIsoft’s work helped increase our sales thanks to the bundler feature, which some of our customers have used. Moreover, they improved our website’s look and feel and made the site easier to navigate than before. When I reached out with a question recently, they were wonderful in answering it, so they still provide awesome customer service.

They delivered on time, responded to our needs, and stated on the budget. We communicated through emails, and the process went smoothly.

We searched for weeks for a web designer and particularly appreciated how professional AIsoft was on our video interview. All of our questions were answered well and AIsoft actually followed up afterward, unlike others.

So far our clients love the updated website and can clearly see the differences in our very similar products. We expect to see a large increase in sales.

AIsoft did not ask much from us and were very independent, which we enjoyed. We got periodic updates and our requests were always fixed or changed immediately. We emailed back and forth throughout the process and they were always happy to get on a video call if needed.

They ask good questions to lead us in the right direction and understand what we want and deliver it.

We sent a drive of photos over and almost none of the new photos were used, when we mentioned it all of the photos were on the site in no time.

We are a non profit organization with a mission to shine a light worldwide on the global epidemic of child sex trafficking, and in so doing rescue more children from slavery and assist law enforcement to seek justice for those who violate children. Our website was on Weebly, but it wasn’t capable of custom innovation — we wanted our customers to see a mockup of their logo on our product. We needed a company to help us achieve that.

What was the scope of their involvement?

AIsoft developed our new website in Shopify. We already had a Weebly site, and AIsoft migrated that content over to a new Shopify website. 

Most of the work was already done regarding imagery and digital assets, but AIsoft helped with even more than I initially brought them on for. Their team provided me with quality insights to improve the website, including the layout. AIsoft suggested a new separation of products to streamline the website layout and bestseller and featured product tabs. 

AIsoft also did some API integration for us to allow customers to upload their logos to my products. Their team worked with an app development team to achieve that goal, and then they integrated the final product into the website.

I found AIsoft through Upwork — I posted my business and the job description, and AIsoft sent me a proposal. Many companies that sent me job applications were rote and didn’t tell me a lot about their company, but AIsoft included a short video that introduced Teddy. 

I then looked into AIsoft and went through their profile and portfolio. I liked what I saw, and after an in-depth interview over the phone, I decided to hire them because they seemed like a good fit for my business.

The website is essentially finished — it is perfect and came out exactly as I wanted. The website is miles better on Shopify than it was on Weebly. Other than that, it’s a little too early to provide specific metrics. 

Moving forward, I will be using Google Analytics to track website traffic.

I think AIsoft had exceptional project management. I communicated directly with Teddy through Slack and he managed the project for me. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

The personalized relationship that AIsoft curated was very unique. I usually work with a team with other companies, but with AIsoft, I worked with Teddy every day and he was very hands-on throughout the process. 

The quality relationship made the project very easy to collaborate on, and I definitely plan to work with them on my next project.

I don’t have any complaints.

I would advise clients to get the AIsoft team on the phone and talk over their plans. These days, many businesses hesitate to deviate from their original ideas, but Teddy and the AIsoft team have great input that is very helpful. 

At the end of the day, I think it was good to follow Teddy's suggestions, especially since he didn’t change anything too drastically. Client’s need to be open to engaging with AIsoft.

Their team has already accomplished the development phase, and they continue to deploy site and product description updates on an as-needed basis. AIsoft has also trained our staff on operating the Shopify interface before the product’s go-live.

We’ve only recently launched our website, and while most of our clients are still local, our international shipping and order placement site features have brought incremental revenue to our business. We have AIsoft’s team to thank for making this order automation possible and providing our customers with flexible payment options, which in turn leads to increased site traffic. We’re also expecting to secure more online orders as this year’s holiday season approaches.
