“They’re well-known in the B2B, and their copywriters are amazing.”

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
We’re an oil and gas company that specializes in software solutions. I’m head of global marketing.
What challenge were you trying to address with Adcetera?
They managed an in-person event for us in 2019. We needed help with crafting a creative concept, storytelling, and visual execution for our event in Houston.
What was the scope of their involvement?
They were initially responsible for conceptualizing the story for our event. The concept was meant to translate to a visual experience in our ballroom and the journey our customers would take as they attended this three-day event. They managed how the event would translate visually and from a messaging perspective. There was a video component they put together to communicate the story as well.
What is the team composition?
There were many people working behind the scenes, but we had direct access to a business development representative, an account director, a creative specialist.
How did you come to work with Adcetera?
Our company worked with them the year prior, so we used their services again.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent about $400,000 on their work.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked with them in August 2019.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We had over 1,500 people in attendance and about 80% of our technical presentations lead by customers. Because they didn’t impact registration with their work, and we didn’t collect survey data on the story, it’s hard to tell the exact impact they had on the overall event.
How did Adcetera perform from a project management standpoint?
Sometimes, they would move forward with ideas before getting the appropriate approval. They didn’t always align correctly with our goals or listen to our feedback. Ther team managed the project and not as much the relationship.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They’re well-known in the B2B, and their copywriters are amazing. The creative assets they delivered weren’t necessarily distinguishable from other creative agencies. However, their copywriter really understood our mission and had an eloquent way of positioning us.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Their relationship management could’ve been better. They could’ve leveraged my in-house marketing and agency background more than they did. I received invoices and estimates rather than a collaborative effort. I was surprised because I have a marketing and agency background.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
They agreed that this project could’ve gone better if I wasn’t as alienated. I’d make sure that the structure of the relationship is understood upfront.
While the partner was very impressed with the team's messaging and copywriting skills, their creative deliverables were considered average by internal stakeholders. Additionally, they failed to align themselves effectively with key internal players, which caused them to overlook important feedback.
