Our company decided to implement Microsoft Modern Workplace and endpoint management solution across all businesses in Europe and we hired Transputec to manage the UK roll-out and replace 2000 laptops and desktops.

They provided engineer assisted replacements in 14 UK locations and remote assistance for devices delivered to home addresses.

How did you select Transputec Ltd and what were the deciding factors?

We invited three vendors who had previously worked with our company, and asked them to provide a solution with a quote. We found the solution provided by Transputec the best fit to our needs.

Transputec understood immediately how our business is different and we don't have users concentrated in few office locations, but we have multiple project locations across the UK even in remote places and islands. And they provided the quickest approach integrated with our existing IT processes for a competitive price.

They pre-provisionned laptops, organized appointments and delivered laptops to users. They have also provided hypercare support and made sure our employees felt comfortable with their new device, they had their data and applications transitioned to their new computer and finally they have provided and easy solution for our users to book collection appointments to return their legacy computer.

All this has been managed in collaboration with our Asset Management team.

They assigned a project manager for our project and we worked with 6 IT engineers / support analysts during roll-out.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

There were several changes and challenges during the project . At some point we run out of stock due to post COVID global supply chain issues, but Transputec was able to react in an agile way and provide alternative solutions. They promptly found alternative sourcing opportunities to ensure continuity for the project.

They have also increased pre-provisinioning speed promptly when our scope increased to more replacements than we originally planned for. They have completed the project on time and our employees were happy with the service provided to them.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Our teams had an MS Teams chat channel to keep engagement constantly going, we also had Teams calls on ad-hoc basis when it was needed. Transputec Ltd is responsive and promptly available.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Agile, quick, professional, responsive and solution centric are the key words that came to my mind when I think about Transputec. They added a lot of value to our really challenging project.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

It took significant time to sign the service agreement due to their long internal processes, but their made corrections and administration was smooth once the first invoice was received.

We wanted to move all of our existing infrastructure to AWS to improve our scalability, reduce the cost of maintaining data centers, and improve delivery time for our clients.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We had two large stages, and the first was the discovery stage. Transputec helped uncover our needs and then offered solutions based on our budget. After that, we move on to the implementation stage, during which Transputec stayed in touch with us and helped us pick the right options. They didn't install any hardware or software, but they did transfer our existing infrastructure from on-premise data centers to the cloud.

All cloud-related work was done offsite. For this kind of service, there wasn't a particular need for them to visit us onsite. Most of the work was done within an Amazon cloud environment.

At the moment, they're only performing cloud-based services, but we'll stay in touch for other needs that we have as a software development company. Their field of expertise is quite diverse, and we feel that there may be other areas in which we can work together.

There have been quite a few people involved, including one of the co-owners, the software engineer, and a project manager.

We were looking for companies in the UK because we provide a lot of access to our code base, and we wanted to find a reputable company that made us feel secure. We also wanted to find someone local that had a lot of expertise in this particular cloud infrastructure domain. These were the two biggest factors on our list.

We began working with them in December 2021, and the partnership is still ongoing. I hope we will continue together for years to come.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The project has brought us scalability and improved our performance, as well as enabled an extremely fast time-to-market for new products.

We don’t require as many internal resources as we used to, so we've reduced the team involved in maintaining and servicing our data center. This has allowed us to save on costs.

How did Transputec Ltd perform from a project management standpoint?

They've been able to meet deadlines and stay on budget, and their communication has been great. They are also very proactive, which is nice. We don't have any issues with them. I hope we will continue this way.

Communication happens mainly through email and a bit of document sharing. We've used Jira some as well, but there hasn't been a need for any specific project management tools, as it's a straightforward project. We've also had in-person meetings and calls through Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

I've visited them on a number of occasions and had personal discussions with them. These have helped greatly in uncovering the best way to approach and establish our cloud infrastructure. This method has also allowed us to speak to many different team members to find the best solution.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their time management impresses us the most. When it comes to software development, usually nothing happens on time. We've been on schedule with Transputec. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

There aren't any that I know of.

If you express your concerns, speak your problems, and be transparent, then they will find the solution you need. Make sure you talk about what you want to do in simple terms. Let them know your pain points, and they will solve them.

I’m the head of a central London, four-star hotel. We have 788 bedrooms with very high occupancy. I’m the head of IT the hotel, looking over all things technical and connected.

What challenge were you trying to address with Transputec Ltd?

Primarily, we wanted them to review our cybersecurity environment. We believed it to be reasonably strong in our perimeter security and process but wanted to be more proactive in our monitoring and response efforts.

We felt that our greatest vulnerabilities were either accidents made by staff or malicious acts, so we were looking for services like log monitoring and data loss prevention.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Transputec came to us with an existing, proven solution that they’d deployed elsewhere in the hospitality industry. It was created by one of their partners. They came in and demonstrated a proof of concept after going through our requirements. It proved to be effective in highlighting unknown vulnerabilities. Not so much in ourselves, but within our supply chain. The product they put forward more than exceeded our expectations. It showed us that we hadn’t widened our scope enough. It went on to do so much more, so much more that we decided to utilize it at the other locations in our hotel group.

The program is a SaaS platform that handles data loss prevention, full-packet inspection, and mobile device monitoring. It monitors what users are doing and typing and what they’re producing, as well as handles patch management.

The analogy I use is that it is a swiss-army tool of cybersecurity. There’s still person-to-person support however, in addition to all its AI and ML capabilities. Transputec monitors our systems 24/7 and makes us aware of things that require investigation or automated actions. It’s proactive, removing threats before they’ve materialized.

They've worked both on and off-site. We have a monitoring device that sits on our network. They assisted us with the deployment of an agent that sits on our computers, and then all the data goes offsite to their security operations center.

Whenever I do special bid orders — large deployments of hardware — they’ve been very competitive, efficient, and on time with them.

We’re working with their primary account manager and his assistant, as well as 3–4 other members of their security team for the proof of concept, implementation, and ongoing service,

I met their account manager at industry events and received their name as a recommendation from others in the industries.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent around $25,000 per year, plus the one-off hardware projects that were around $50,000 each. The grand total is above $150,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We’ve been working together since May 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Whilst our security remained strong, we would probably capture 4–5 instances of accidental data risk: people have accidentally started to compile sets of data that’s not put where it should be. The software effectively identifies those occurrences. They’ve also intercepted instances of credential theft. Those were caught within three minutes, and we were able to do a rapid analysis that nothing materialized. They very quickly that the account was trying to be accessed from elsewhere in the world.

Their diagnostics and forensics have been very strong. We’re running at about 100 alerts total throughout the years. Nothing has been majorly concerning; events like phishing attacks and malware have been stopped before activiation.

How did Transputec Ltd perform from a project management standpoint?

We worked with a project manager on the implementation, and it was very easy. There was also a major software upgrade in 2019 where we identified a large issue, and they a technician on site to analyze what happened. They worked with another one of our vendors to resolve the issue within 48 hours, and everything remained, up, running, and monitored.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their after-sales services are fantastic, and they don’t oversell themselves. After listening to our requirements, they give us a product that does what we want and not more. I don’t’ feel like I’m paying for technical aspects of the work that are unnecessary. They matched our needs to the product at the best possible value.

Are there any areas they could improve?

So far, there isn’t anything I would mention. Because the software runs so efficiently, we don’t have much reason to reach out to them. Therefore, I touch base with them every few months. In terms of technical improvements, they happen around once a year, but by then we’ve realized that the product has even more functionality than it used to. We don’t requirement the new functionality, so they don’t’ bring it to our attention, but educating us more on their capabilities would be good.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be very open and honest and speak exactly what your requirements and pain points are. They listen and are discreet, so you should be confident in confiding in them when something isn’t right. They’ve been strong for us in both recommending solutions to what we think our problems are and using their expertise to make us aware of things that we weren’t previously.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our partnership has been running for the last two and a half years without any problems. Our migrated servers have also been working well based on the monthly KPI reports. Our uptime and downtime — along with other metrics that we use to ensure everything is functioning well — have been at a steady state.

How did Transputec Ltd perform from a project management standpoint?

Transputec documents everything so that we know where we are and what the process is. There are no hidden charges; they stick by the cost that they initially quoted. We work in an agile methodology, but I can’t remember the names of the tools that they use.

We usually communicate over the phone or have face-to-face meetings, especially before COVID-19. They have a dedicated project manager with whom we have weekling meetings to ensure everything is going smoothly. When we have queries, we just call them and speak to them directly.

I like Transputec’s honesty. They are upfront about everything and they come directly to us with any questions. Trust is the biggest element in our success. We’re often nervous around other providers, but we never get that with Transputec. They always have our best interests at heart.
