I’m the marketing and brand manager of Daggerwing Group, a global change consultancy company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Stryve Digital Marketing?

We hired Stryve a couple of years ago. At the time, we were looking for help with content development and amplification on different social media platforms.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Stryve started helping us create 1–2 pieces of content per month and putting together a paid sponsored campaign on LinkedIn. However, we began working on bigger projects with their support throughout the years. For example, they helped us redesign and redevelop our entire website, and they developed a blog site as well.

They’ve been a great partner for us across various things, from strategic thinking to design, helping us come up with the UX that we were after. We’re still partnering with them, creating different digital marketing strategies on social media. We’ve also continued amplifying our content, and Stryve now creates a couple of pieces of content per week.

They usually come to us with a piece of content that we want to publicize, and they write the copy for it to be optimized. Then, we go through a small editing process, depending on if I have any changes or not.

Aside from that, when we do webinars, Stryve helps us create the backend of everything so that we can collect all the signups and attendees; they’ve been very instrumental there. Currently, we’re starting to work with them on Google Ads, retargeting some of them. Overall, we’re expanding our brand, targeting different people and trying to reach new audiences.

I work with Ryan (Managing Partner), Sarah (Digital Marketing Director), Ash (Digital Marketing Coordinator), and Carly (Digital Marketing Manager).

How did you come to work with Stryve Digital Marketing?

Ryan used to work for Daggerwing Group many years ago, even before I was here. When I started needing support with our global marketing initiatives, our co-founder and president told us about Ryan and his company, and we gave them the business.

We spend around $65,000 CAD (approximately $52,000 USD) per year for digital marketing services. However, the website redevelopment had a separate cost.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together towards the beginning of 2019, and we’re still working together.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Over the last couple of years, we’ve basically been doing brand-building and awareness exercises. Although we don’t have strict KPIs or metrics to track, our business has grown tremendously, almost double the amount, due to our improved market presence.

Stryve has helped us have a consistent flow of content and reach new audiences to gain new followers. Additionally, they always push us to try new strategies and find new ways to expand our brand.

How did Stryve Digital Marketing perform from a project management standpoint?

Stryve’s project management is great. They’re always meeting the deadlines, and they’re constantly on top of everything. We have weekly meetings to touch base, and we’re in close communication throughout the week as well. They use Jira for project management, which helps keep things organized and clear.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Stryve is not afraid to push the boundaries with us. Even if they think that the answer is going to be no, they bring the idea that they have in mind to the table. If we’re not ready to implement an idea, we can say no but come back later when we’re ready for it.

Additionally, the website was an arduous process, but they never gave up. We had many delays due to COVID-19 and other issues, but they stuck with it and produced a very good product.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I don’t think so.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Keep an open mind and utilize them as much as possible. For example, I’m the kind of person who wants to do it all by myself, not to mention that we, as a company, are very strict with our brand guidelines and language. However, we’ve found out that relying on Stryve helps things go faster and smoother.

Stryve has provided consulting services on digital marketing and advertising to evaluate different technologies and figure out which are the most successful for our business.

I only work with the two heads of the company. Ryan (Managing Partner) provides strategic guidance and consulting. Our team works daily with 5–8 people on media buy and SEO.

How did you come to work with Stryve Digital Marketing?

We dug around for digital agencies and shortlisted them. I came from an agency background, so I knew what I was looking for. We wanted a small boutique shop that could offer a high level of service. Most of the agencies we selected had experience with agriculture, and Stryve didn’t.

However, we actually wanted a fresh perspective from somebody without experience in the industry so they could bring a completely different view and ideas from other industries. We had an RFP and a pitch process; Stryve blew us away with the pitch. They were also friendly, open, and had the desire to understand the business. As a small agency, they were hungry for it.

In the end, we went off the path a little bit and chose them.

Last year, we spent about $700,000, including media buy and consulting.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in June 2016, and our relationship is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They provide us with metrics and insights for every campaign that we do. If something is working well, we push that even more. They have the authority to change over and iterate constantly, so we’re getting value and results from them on the fly. Before, we waited until the end of the campaign to do a whole deep dive. Now, we’re finding out that moving money as the campaign goes it’s more efficient for our dollars.

Additionally, they brought in Drift as a tool for our website, which is a chatbot. We implemented it four years ago, and nobody in our industry was doing it at the time. It’s changed the way we do inbound and outbound calls and interactions. We had a call center, and now we have one person that looks after it and the chatbot if there are complex questions.

In that sense, three-quarters of our call volume has gone down, and the chat has increased at the same speed. We’re doing about 75% of interactions on the chatbot and 25% on the phone. It also has allowed us to reduce headcount in that area, and the chatbot looks after many basic questions.

How did Stryve Digital Marketing perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve done well. They’re a lean team, and they get fairly entrenched in the business. Stryve understands and knows the value that they bring. They’re very responsive and efficient with time. We have 15–20 minutes meetings; they get to what we need, and then we’re off. Overall, we’re pretty happy with the level of service and expertise that they bring.

We use Trello, email, meetings, and the usual to communicate.

They’re truly invested in the success of our business. We also value the perspective that they bring. It’s outside the box.

I wouldn’t change anything. They’ve been really effective with our business.

The final website is head and shoulders above the former website in look, feel, and professionality. The team took everything we wanted and made sure they worked it in or came up with better ideas.

We are a global animal breeding company with 5 different business units. I am the Marketing manager for one of the businesses who is the primary client of Stryve and help liaise with other business units to provide localized marketing services.

We searched online for an agency, not specifically digital and shortlisted 3 companies. Factors that led us to choose Stryve included proximity, relationships and proposals they presented for opportunities to enhance our offerings.

As our relationship is ongoing there have been a variety of projects and scopes of work over the years. In general we define projects via briefs, have regular check in calls to answer questions and provide status updates and use tools like Trello and Microsoft Teams to manage the projects and share files.

Over the years we have had a number of team members work with us. On strategy or more complex projects, we work with one of the founders of the company, if we need graphic design work we have worked with 2-3 members, depending on the needs. We also have someone who is dedicated to helping with our video editing needs. Then of course we have an account manager that coordinates all the work with the various resources, in addition to taking on some of the work themselves, as required.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

With the help of Styve we can now measure our digital success and compare year over year which helps us tweak our content plans to continue to see growth. The have helped us to create a library of webinars and videos which previous to working with them was at zero videos published.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

They have become an integrated part of our team so we don't really think of us and them as separate. There is open collaboration and discussions which make the projects a success.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Although they are primarily a digital agency, they manage to balance and deliver on a few of our traditional needs.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

We are very satisfied. The only possible enhancement would have to do with languages. As we are a global company we often require design support in languages other than English, so having multi-lingual staff would be an asset unique to us.
