I’m the director of digital and social media for a marketing agency. We specialize in sports marketing, sports travel, and lifestyle.

What challenge were you trying to address with Slow Clap Productions?

We were launching a new venture called Celebrity Pickleball Bash. We did a whole social media launch and pitch for paid social. Since this was the first event of its kind, we had zero content to showcase what we were doing. It was important to capture video content that showcased the vibe and energy of the event. We wanted to tell the story of Pickletainment in 10–60 seconds and create videos that would work on social media, our website, email, and YouTube.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We initially had an introductory call with Slow Clap Productions, where we explained our positioning and goals. Since we had never done anything like this before, it was pretty much carte blanche. We wanted to capture every nook and cranny of the two-day event. Slow Clap Productions put together a shot list and a run of show based on what we were looking for. We went through production, and I was on-site with them both days. They showed us what the deliverables would be before everything, and then delivered against what they promised.

Slow Clap Productions did pre-production, production, and post-production. They handled all the video editing and audio mixing. The videos had 2D animation text.

What is the team composition?

We had five people assigned to the project. Four people came on the first day, and three people came on the second day.

How did you come to work with Slow Clap Productions?

They contacted us after seeing our social media posts. We were impressed with the quality of their work, their thoroughness, and their excitement for pickleball. They seemed like a good fit. Moreover, knowing that we were doing a startup business, they were flexible in understanding that our cash flow wasn’t as solid as that of an established company. They were great about flexibility on payment and equity.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We posted the main sizzle reel they created for us. It had about 2,000 views. We have another 1,500 views from today, so we’re already at about 4,000 organic views.

How did Slow Clap Productions perform from a project management standpoint?

They delivered the work on time and on budget. We communicated well through email and Slack. We also used Frame.io, a video production tool. It’s one of my favorite things to use with a production company.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’ve worked with a handful of production agencies throughout my career, and Slow Clap Productions definitely ranks near the top. They were incredibly organized and thorough in their communication. They were also professional and great to work with. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

The turnaround time for the final deliverables could have been a little quicker, but it was not detrimental to the project.

We needed help with filming an announcement video.

What was the scope of their involvement?
Slow Clap Productions provided us with video production services. They provided us with the crew, equipment, insurance, permits, and other things that we needed to film some of our staff in our office.

We started the project by meeting over Zoom a few times to go over the concept of what we wanted to do for this project. We worked on the script in-house, but Slow Clap Productions had visibility on our script and offered suggestions. We then brought them to our office to do a technical scout, which involved looking around and figuring out which parts of the office we were going to film.

After that, we were ready to start filming. On the day of the shoot, Slow Clap Productions brought all the cameras, lighting, and crew. They also provided support on the day of the shoot and even food and beverages for the crew. They also secured all of the needed permits.

It was a long day of filming with a bunch of different people from the office. After the shoot, they sent over the footage. We handled all the post-production work in-house.

I would like to give a shout-out to Dan. He was accommodating and useful throughout the engagement and a great partner in terms of how to capture everything we wanted to do for the project.

We have a relationship with a live event production company that helps us organize our annual conference. I asked them if they use a production service company for filming, and they put us in touch with SlowClap Productions. They actually subcontracted Slow Clap Productions for this project.

We had also worked with Dan (Founder & Creative Director) in the past, so I felt comfortable when he was suggested to us.

We worked together from April–May 2024.

There were some technical issues with some of their equipment on the day of the shoot. It would have been better if they had done a little bit more preparation the day before the shoot.

What was the scope of their involvement?
Slow Clap Productions recorded, edited, and sent videos for us to show to our larger team. The videos were about wins, successes, and milestones in the process of growth. They had to cover many bases in the videos. To help them produce the videos, we gave them summaries of the milestones we wanted to capture and the content they had to record. We also sent them scripts and questions that we wanted them to ask our team members. In total, they produced 13 videos.
What is the team composition?
We mainly dealt with two teammates from Slow Clap Productions. Sarah (Producer) was my main point of contact. She also recorded the videos and presented them to me.
How did you come to work with Slow Clap Productions?
A co-worker who did video editing was leaving for his wedding and honeymoon, and he’d be gone for a month. Normally, that teammate would do the video for us. However, since he was leaving, he told me to reach out to Slow Clap Productions.

Tell Slow Clap Productions your expectations — tell them exactly what you want. If you don’t, they’ll work creatively and do things their way. However, if you tell them your requirements right off the bat, everything will be easier for everyone.

What challenge were you trying to address with Slow Clap Productions?

We hired Slow Clap Productions for a video production project. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We initially had introduction calls with Slow Clap Productions, exploring the project's scope and ensuring it was a good fit for both our teams. During the preproduction, we had a series of pre-interviews with the video's subjects to fully flesh out the story and ensure we focused on the right information. 

The actual shoot took two days. They visited us in the office and interviewed our CEO and CTO on camera. They came with a crew and all the necessary equipment and set them up. For the postproduction, we held a series of review meetings as we iterated on the video around four times. They gave us much control over the project; for instance, I created a paper edit of the video and handed it to them. They took care of everything from there, and we were given opportunities to give feedback.

The final deliverable was a brand story video. For context, we renamed the company and announced it after a round of funding. We wanted to create an updated narrative and tell our company’s story.  We also wanted to attract candidates with whom our story resonated. On top of that, we wanted to clarify our narrative to the broader public.

The video had 106,000 views, 48 thumbs up, and no thumbs down — everyone seemed to love it. It received highly positive comments. Anecdotally, we showed the video at a career fair recently, and we received so much positive feedback about it. Viewers specifically praised the video’s vision, how it was told so well, and how beautiful it was. 

How did Slow Clap Productions perform from a project management standpoint?

Dan was an extremely valued creative collaborator. He was agile, flexible, and open to our insights; he respected our vision and truly made an effort to understand us at a deeper level. This way, he could tell our story in a richer and more authentic way.

Apart from Dan, Beijo was great, too. She managed our timelines and set expectations in terms of outputs. We had a limited timeline; it was also fluid, so it required a lot of adjustments from the Slow Clap Productions team. They were up to the task and always adjusted their work, so there was always a guaranteed delivery by the deadline. As a result, I was never worried about timelines. The team was extremely clear in setting expectations. They also stayed on budget. 

For tools, we had a shared Slack channel where we communicated frequently. They were extremely accessible there. We also used Coda documents for other project management tasks. Overall, their project management skills were commendable. They had a great team behind every project. They kept everything on track and ensured things ran smoothly for their clients. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Slow Clap Productions’ biggest strength was their collaborative spirit. They treated us as a thought partner instead of just asking for tasks and running off to do their own things. Their authenticity was also impressive. They cared about their clients and the story we were trying to tell; this came through in the final product.

No, there weren’t any. It was a dream working with them.

I am the Director of Development for Beck's Shoes, and we are a 104 year old family owned and operated full service shoe company that provides comfortable footwear for all walks in life.

Our goal was to create a 60-70 second branding video to use on our website and social channels that showcased our consumer experience when shopping at Beck's Shoes.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We reviewed lots of companies and ultimately chose Slow Clap based on the style of videos they created highlighted on their website.

Slow Clap made the process seamless. From contract negotiations, to gathering information, script draft and edits, to what to expect the day of the shoot, and all editing of footage. There was a 2 part edit/revise/edit/revise system they used with a video conference during review to assure our needs were met and we were happy with the direction the video was headed.

Who did you work with and what was the feedback process like?

We mostly worked with Daniel and Katy during the preparation/planning, editing and review. They were very receptive and professional the duration of the project.

We absolutely love the final product and it is already in use on our website.

Slow Clap's project management was fantastic. The communication was always followed up in writing, everything was on time if not early and their ability to capture our vision was impeccable.

We were very impressed with the planning and prep before the day of the shoot, and most impressed with the teamwork displayed with the team on the day of the shoot. They were focused from set up to tear down to assure that every shot was captured thoughtfully and kept great organization of their equipment the duration of the shoot.

We are 100% satisfied with the process and final outcome. :) A job VERY well done!
