I’m the senior marketing manager at UPDAY, a leading tech and media company, that is operating in 34 European markets. We have four different products in the field of content aggregation and curation. Our main product is the news app “Upday”, that is available on all Android and iOS smartphones.
Upday provides clients with relevant news, both human-curated by professional journalists and personalized by algorithms. Additionally, our company runs an e-sports app, a podcast app and API solutions for various B2B partners.

What challenge were you trying to address with REPLUG?
Although we have been in the market for five years now, paid user acquisition was a new challenge for us. At the beginning of our partnership with REPLUG, we did not have a mobile measurement partner integrated into our apps, for example.
Therefore, we wanted to hire a performance marketing agency to support us in building user acquisition channels.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
REPLUG provided us with performance marketing campaign management and technical support. At the start of the project, they showed us detailed examples of what good performance marketing looks like, an in-depth look at user behavior, and tips for our design team to create performance ads. They provided us with a guideline and created a strategic plan to identify the user acquisition (UA )channels of our products.
Apart from that, they took their time to walk us through each campaign and send us detailed reports of the results. They also analyzed keywords and created content for the Play Store and were continually monitoring the aftermarket optimization of our products.
REPLUG recently helped us to integrate an API mobile measurement partner, to ensure the correct tracking of our UA campaign actions.

Our main point of contact was Lorenzo (Co-Founder & Head of Growth) as well as Luca (Co-Founder), but we also worked closely with different team members depending on the app.
How did you come to work with REPLUG?
One of our colleagues recommended REPLUG to us as a very experienced and knowledgeable company. They took over our performance campaigns and taught us to understand user acquisition. We felt from the beginning that they were rooting for our succcess, and they really wanted to make our product work.

Our ongoing partnership started in November 2020.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
For our first project, REPLUG helped us with a UA campaign and achieved a significantly low consumer price index (CPI), so we were very satisfied with the results. Additionally, they also helped us with the app store optimization (ASO) for one of our additional apps and improved the ranking of 100 keywords within just six weeks.
It’s not common for an app to rank high on so many keywords with only a few downloads shortly after its release. By now this app achieved to rank Top five of its Play Store category.
How did REPLUG perform from a project management standpoint?
They performed great. REPLUG is proactive, transparent, detail-oriented, and they always respond to our feedback. We communicate via email, Slack, Zoom, and in some urgent cases, through WhatsApp.
What did you find most impressive about them?
REPLUG is a fairly small agency, so we were very impressed with their responsiveness and personal approach to the partnership. I trust them because they really focused on our goals and were highly creative in finding new solutions.
Are there any areas they could improve?
It’s not necessarily something they need to improve, but if they incorporated design services into their company, they could provide complete all-in-one solutions. Otherwise no, I think they are doing a fantastic job.

I was looking for support in setting up a new CRM for the company. I was looking for a team who could choose the right platform, to implement some automation, and work on specific KPIs on our userbase. My goal was to boost the number of repeat purchases. I also needed to improve the onboarding process from the download to their first purchase.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
REPLUG began by reviewing our processes. It was a very strict collaboration where they were at the disposal of our team at any time we needed them. We worked together on everything. The real goal was to improve the conversion rate from registration to first purchase and also to boost the number of purchases per active client. They helped do the automation implementation inside the CRM.
I since have given them another project on user acquisitions through Facebook. They’re restructuring our acquisition panel on Facebook and Instagram. They also work on our positioning on the app store. They continue to manage the CRM and APIs.

We work directly with the founder.

They sent me a cold email with a showcase of a friend of mine. I looked at the use cases and I called my friend asking them if they were good and if what they were telling me was true. My friend said they were good, reliable, and strong. I gave them a one-month contract to address the KPI on the CRM. They were really good and I’ve continued with them.

I’m really satisfied with their work. I’ve tried other consultancies in the last five years and REPLUG is the best one. The KPIs are the registration rate, the first purchase rate, etc. We measure their impact on the company.

They work well with us. Managing the project primarily falls in their hands. They’re able to reach the goal and are compliable to what I ask them. We have a weekly call with my team and their team. We speak 2-3 times a week.

REPLUG provided App Store Optization services for one of our apps for both Apple App Store & Google Play Store. First they performed a thorough audit of the apps presence on the app stores - screenshots, keywords, etc and then they provided recommendations for improvements.
After the recommendations were implemented, they monitored the performance of the apps and provided weekly updates.

I am the Head of Digital Marketing for the Berlin-based start-up ODXClub. ODXClub is a new and safe dating app from and for Berlin. ODXClub is empowering women and putting them in control of their dating experience. No matter if you are looking for a short adventure or a partner for a relationship.

For what projects/services did your company hire REPLUG, and what were your goals?
Launching a new dating app with zero users on a limited budget is complicated. We needed an agency to define the best user acquisition strategy to acquire a healthy ratio of women in a small geographical area. We needed support in a wide area of expertise eg. for our mobile marketing tech stack, App Store Optimization, and creative strategy.
Our goal was to find a partner who understands our dating vertical and brings profound expertise in mobile user acquisition strategy, campaign management, and a broad technical understanding of the mobile marketing tech ecosystem. We wanted to reach a certain number (critical mass) of active users in a very short time (weeks), combined with a very ambitious female ratio above industry benchmarks for the lowest price possible.
SOLUTION
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
We shortlisted 5 agencies and got in touch with 3 agencies. After the first interviews, we knew very quickly that Replug is the best partner, not only because of their past expertise but because of their proactive approach to understanding and suggesting practical solutions.

After the initial briefing from our side, Replug quickly created a creative strategy together and formed based on our goals a campaign plan focussing on mobile user acquisition. Replug-checked our tech stack and assisted us with essential improvements for our measurement set-up. They gave us an excellent project and media plan for the first phase.
How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
We worked very closely with a mobile marketing manager and the account manager from Replug. Their graphic design department supported us with all the creative material we needed. Replug's App Store Optimization team supported us with all the input we needed. Their business intelligence manager helped us out great times with our data science projects. The two founders have been involved in the daily business too.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
Replug scaled our user base from zero to 20k in a very short time. While constantly increasing the female share of our user acquisition efforts while reducing the CPA for females Replug decreased the total CPA by over 62%. By pushing towards a UGC approach on TikTok they managed to reduce our CPA with UGC in 1 month by almost 50%. Replug gave us very good recommendations and optimized our creative strategy accordingly, resulting in an impressive 213% increase in our registration rate.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
We had a weekly digital or in-person meeting with them to go over the weekly performance and we got very focused weekly reports as detailed monthly reports. Besides email, we used Slack for communication and used Trello as a project management and task-tracking tool. Replug was always very responsive (max a few hours) and assisted us even over the weekend while we faced some technical issues.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
REPLUG was our 1-stop shop for all our mobile marketing needs. From marketing to creatives and tech stack including mCRM, Replug was in every area profound and helped us a lot. Working with other agencies before Replug changed my view on agencies drastically. You could feel how they live and breathe mobile marketing and they went many times over the top.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
We could have found a quicker solution together for bridging the boundaries of using GDrive on one side and OneDrive on the other, but this was mostly related to us.
