Rave Digital created a customer WordPress website that allows us to post and promote our content, sell subscriptions, collect credit card payments, and even capture data from website visitors. For example, Rave created a custom module that allows our website visitors to vote on which audio and video clips they prefer.

Rave created another module that allows product vendors to enter data about their products into a database that we then make available to our paying subscribers. Our website also integrates with the Hubspot marketing automation tool.

I was searching for web development partners and then met with the owner of Rave. They were very interested in working with our company, and they welcomed the challenge of creating custom modules and integrations.

The proejct started with a series of kickoff meetings to discuss the goals and requirements. The team then provided mock-ups of pages and workflows. We then started talking about the various modules and required integrations.

We started off by trying to use existing plug-ins, but those apps were far too limiting. We determined that having Rave create custom modules was the proper path. Our site uses WordPress as the core engine. Rave created our theme and our registration process. The site leverages a range of plug-ins, including

1. A custom company assignment module that assigns registered users to the proper companies based on email address domains.
2. A custom subscription module that allows us to sell subscriptions to companies - not individual users. This module allows us to offer specific content to specific companies.
3. A custom comparison module that lets us present audio and video files to website visitors and capture feedback, which we then use to rank the quality of those files.
4. A custom database engine that allows us to provide comparison information on competing products and services. Notably, the vendors themselves provide the actual data. Our system is friendly enough to allow third-parties to enter data.
5. A custom newsletter module that gathers recent content and sends a newsletter out to subscribers and registered users. All of this is built on a custom WordPress engine created and managed by Rave.

As I explained above, this is a complex site and project. But no matter what, the Rave team gave it their all. Sometimes things took longer than we'd hoped, but that was due to the complexity of the requirement. In the end, the Rave folks always made sure it worked properly. The team has worked weekends and nights to make sure things turned out well for us. Our website is our face to the world, and Rave made it happen!

The project management style depends on the requirement. For the "standard" parts of our site, the team offered tight and detailed project management. However, for the custom areas, the project management team included us in the process. We worked together to define the goals, define the testing requirements, and roll-out the new features.

Two words come to mind — flexibility and dedication. This team is flexible enough to accept almost any request. Sometimes the deadlines were very tight, but they still accepted the challenge. This team is willing to go above and beyond. This team is also dedicated to the success of their clients. Even today, we had a minor issue, and a senior developer we worked with two years ago quickly jumped in to assist. He was busy with other projects, but made himself available to help.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

This team gives its all. However, one area of improvement would be in the area of feature testing. To be clear - this is also our issue. Sometimes we ask for new features or bug fixes urgently - meaning RIGHT NOW. As a result, the coders don't have the time needed to thoroughly test each new item or fix. It would be helpful to have a dedicated team of testers / QA folks on our account. However, our budget won't support the additional resources.

America's Test Kitchen is a print and digital publishing company whose mission is to test recipes and equipment over and over again until we understand how and why they work. We make mistakes so the home cook does not have to. My position at ATK is as the Director of eCommerce and Affiliates.

We then provided a list of requirements (new and existing) along with wireframes and design requirements. From that point on we measured the project through key steps and deliverables. We had some unique challenges related to custom product types, a custom payment capture tool, and unique connections to our marketing tools and databases. We were involved in project management and QA throughout the entirety of the process.

Rave hit all of our deliverables and our new site launched on time and on budget. We have seen significant improvements in site speed averaging about 40% faster than when we were on M1 and we continue to add new and exciting features.

We use Teamworks for project management, Slack, and weekly status check-ins to make sure we're working on the right projects and sticking to our timelines.

The fact that we have a direct line of communication with Rave Digital 24/7 through Slack is invaluable. If it's Sunday night at 6 PM and we have an issue that needs attention, we never have issues getting someone from Rave to help.

We have a steady stream of communication on a daily basis but at times I still struggle with knowing exactly what information Rave needs in order to tackle some of our projects. Having a list of requirements needed for specific project types would be helpful and potentially cut down on some back and forth. We have also had some ongoing issues (mainly with our checkout flow) that have gone unresolved.

The store performs very well all round. It is fast, efficient, and secure. The store can process up to 10,000 orders per day — which is more than enough for us. What’s more, it is responsive and user-friendly and delivers a consistent UX.

The project was handled through JIRA and Slack. We had weekly meetings over Zoom to discuss the project. They were very particular about deadlines and delivered things on time.

We hired Rave Digital to build a storefront for our book store. The primary objective is to ensure it’s safe, secure, and reliable. We need the store to be SEO friendly and has the potential to drive in customers from several search engines.

We found them via Google. After reviewing their portfolio, previous work, client experiences, we scheduled a call with their team. Over the call, we found them professional and friendly so we have decided to work with them.

They first created the storefront on Magento2 with many custom extensions following the standard architecture of Magento2 extension. For Frontend they have used HTML5, CSS, jQuery and JavaScript and PHP, MySQL and XML are used for backend. REST APIs are used for setting the connection between PoS and e-commerce. We have many features implemented. A few of them I remember are multi currency, gift registry, subscription, bundle, related products integrations.

We worked with a Solution Consultant initially. A team of a tech lead and 2 Magento developers and a UI/UX designer is assigned to us who are still our point of contact for any query.
