A cycle-tracking app wanted to improve their visibility and conversions. Phiture performed an audit, then managed their app store optimization. The team ran testing and A/B experiments to find key insights.
Downloads and keyword visibility increased as a result of Phiture's work. The team is insightful, skilled, and data-driven. Their organized approach makes them stand out from other vendors.
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this
client over the phone. Below is an edited
transcript.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I manage the app store optimization at Clue, a period and ovulation tracking app. The app tracks a user’s cycle and transforms that information into data-driven insights so that they can discover and understand unique patterns in their menstrual cycle.
I manage the organic traffic of our app stores.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Phiture?
We were focusing on new user growth, and we wanted to figure out how to improve our visibility and conversions in key markets.
We brought Phiture in to run a detailed audit of our performance in the app stores and develop a detailed plan of how to improve performance over the next few months.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Phiture helped us figure out how we were performing on key metrics and our competitors. After the audit, we hired them to manage our app store optimization, which included testing, running A/B experiments, playing around with different visibility metrics, and keyword optimization. We also hired them to manage our paid acquisitions in Apple Search Ads.
We ran an audit on our app store performance and identified some of the challenges and opportunities. Phiture built a plan to execute a bunch of tests and see what would click. We identified different things in key markets that would drive conversions for us.
They brought in their expertise from working on a bunch of different apps, especially creative testing. We were able to pinpoint how to best position our apps in the app stores. Since this type of optimization is everchanging, they taught us how to implement a comprehensive strategy that would allow us to test different features properly.
What is the team composition?
We had 1–2 account managers and a designer. Occasionally, we’d have someone from the data team jump on calls.
How did you come to work with Phiture?
Since they’re also based in Berlin, we knew about them. We’d worked with a consultant before, but it became clear that we needed a much more comprehensive agency.
We liked the fact that Phiture combined a data-driven approach into insular services. We had copy and design support, and we had a lot of people with expertise working in app store optimization. That helped us with the whole partnership.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent between €40,000–€50,000 (approximately $47,000–$59,000 USD).
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with Phiture in April 2019, and we finished the engagement in August or September of that year.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The audit took about a month, and they managed our optimization for three months after that. We measured success through some of our key app store metrics.
We were able to increase downloads, and we increased keyword visibility in some cases. The place where Phiture was most helpful was increasing our conversions. So, not only getting people into the app stores but once we had visitors, converting them into users.
How did Phiture perform from a project management standpoint?
The team at Phiture was professional and attentive. We had a shared Slack channel, which made communication much better. We also had weekly meetings that were well-structured.
What did you find most impressive about them?
First and foremost, their team was experienced and data-driven. Phiture approached our project by looking at apps in different areas, providing key insights, and running creative experiments.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I can’t think of anything. Everything in terms of communication and execution went well.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
I would advise being flexible and letting Phiture present their best recommendations. We came in with this approach, and we could get a feel of all the ideas they had.

Phiture provided App Store optimization services to a travel booking platform. This included Apple search ads as well.
Phiture delivered high-quality results and had thorough reporting. They were trustworthy, honest, and gave the client excellent advice. Communication with the team was easy.
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this
client over the phone. Below is an edited
transcript.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I work for a multimodal travel comparer with direct booking. Users can compare schedules, prices, and travel durations for different modes of transport—flights, trains, buses, and car sharing—and perform direct bookings with our partners or be redirected to those partners’ websites, depending on the company.
I’m the head of the growth team, which covers marketing, retention, and monetization.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Phiture?
We wanted assistance with Apple search ads and App Store optimization for our mobile app.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
They basically took over our Apple search account. They gave us a lot of feedback and worked with our graphic design team to optimize for the visuals on the app search platforms. They created a plan so that we could eventually focus on user retention.
What is the team composition?
We worked with their ASA and ASO consultants.
How did you come to work with Phiture?
They were recommended to me. Phiture was also the only candidate that was transparent with us from the beginning about the services they would provide and which of those wouldn’t make sense for our needs.
The other companies and freelancers we talked to would automatically try to cover as many points as they could. We realized that we wouldn’t get the same level of transparency somewhere else.
How much have you invested with them?
We were paying €2,500 (approximately $3,280 USD) per month, so the total cost of their work was around €30,000 (approximately $39,364 USD).
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with Phiture in February or March 2019. We worked with Phiture for a bit more than a year. Due to the fact that we’re a travel business, we had to shut down in April 2020.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Phiture’s reporting was really on point. We could look at it from a very high level or go into detail. It was really useful for someone like myself, who was heading the team and wanted to get a high-level view, and, at the same time, performance marketing managers could go into detail on optimization schemes and particular changes.
That was reflected in the quality of work. They didn’t just do something and show us results. They invited us to their offices once every 1–2 months, where we went into detail about what they’d learned by looking into our account. I found that to be very valuable. Phiture aimed to actually educate us, and that’s something I didn’t see with a lot of other agencies.
How did Phiture perform from a project management standpoint?
We had weekly calls, and we had a shared Slack channel where they posted weekly reports and recommendations. The communication was easy, and Phiture’s feedback was on point.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Their work was good, and its impact was positive.
Something that stood out was Phiture’s availability. We had a Slack channel where we could ask any questions and immediately get feedback. The 2–3 consultants we were assigned really knew the ins and outs of our business.
Then, there’s their honesty and humility. They would tell us from the beginning what they could and couldn’t do, and what would and wouldn’t make sense for us, as a client.
Are there any areas they could improve?
We worked with them on ASO and ASA. Getting more feedback from them on what to change on our product might’ve been an improvement, but it wasn’t in the scope of work we assigned Phiture.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Really detailing our business model upfront and working closely with Phiture in the beginning to set the success goals of the product was definitely helpful. Phiture was thorough in conducting the initial assessment. Sharing even minute details like how big a margin do we want to have with partners definitely improved their efficiency.
I recommend giving them as much input as possible in the beginning, on the business model, and different success events.

Phiture provided app store optimization for a consumer reviews platform. They did this for four different apps in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
As a result of Phiture’s work, the client saw an improvement in their conversion rates on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The client was most impressed by the team’s communication skills and strong project management.

BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the head of performance marketing at a ratings platform for businesses including restaurants, hotels, and more.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Phiture?
We have four mobile applications: two on iOS and two on Android. They cater to our consumers and our business users. We hired Phiture to help optimize the conversion rates for our app listings.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
They provide ASO (app store optimization). They tested a number of things to optimize our conversion rates including app icons, titles, subtitles, descriptions, screenshots, video, and more. They provided end-to-end solutions from testing framework to suggestions based on the test results and different iterations. They did this for both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.
What is the team composition?
We worked with two people on a regular basis. There were another analyst and several people from the creative team that helped with the project more so on an ad hoc basis.
How did you come to work with Phiture?
We heard about them through word of mouth. They have a great brand reputation in the gaming and mobile app industries.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent more than $500,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with them in August 2017, and we worked with them until July 2019.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We tracked the conversion rates for each of our app. If there was ever a decrease in the conversion rate, they worked to figure out solutions.
How did Phiture perform from a project management standpoint?
We communicated through a weekly virtual conference call. They presented results each week, and we went over ideas and could request tests.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Their communication is amazing. The way they present results and suggest new ideas is very helpful. They’re very good at what they do.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, I never had any issues with them.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Make sure your technology and data reporting are in order. It’s also helpful to have a clear idea of what you want out of the engagement. This way, you can get the most out of the engagement.

Phiture was brought in to build and develop new templates for an e-learning company's in-app messaging platform. They were also tasked with ensuring that the platform works on both iOS and Android.
The new messaging template provided a huge spike in user engagement by 4000%. Phiture executed the project efficiently and professionally. This resulted in the client extending their partnership to continue their success in developing new templates.
The client submitted this review online.
BACKGROUND
Please describe your company and your position there.
I am the Head of CRM at Blinkist, an e-learning company that provides customer with bite-sized pieces of non-fiction content across a variety of categories. As the Head of CRM, I use our communication channels - email, push notifications and in-app messages - to increase customer engagement with our content.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
For what projects/services did your company hire Phiture?
Our company wanted to improve the quality of the in-app messages we were sending through our CRM platform - Braze. Braze's out-of-the-box in-app messages templates very basic, and we wanted Phiture's help to build new templates. First, we made bespoke requests for new templates, before opting to use their proprietary in-app template building tool B.Layer.
What were your goals for this project?
The in-app message templates we had access to were lacking in functionality, and their design did not pair well with the overall Blinkist branding. Our goal was to get support developing new templates that could be reused for multiple different business cases, and give us control over any elements of the template we'd want to change in the future.
SOLUTION
How did you select Phiture?
Phiture was recommended to the CRM team at Blinkist by multiple companies, including our CRM provider, Braze. We were sent samples of work they had provided for Headspace and other brands and were impressed by their capabilities. To our knowledge, there were no other companies specializing in in-app message development, so we did not consider other alternatives.
Describe the project in detail.
The initial project scope was to develop a flexible template that would would be reusable and customisable. We provided Phiture with Design guidelines and then they were responsible for development and testing of the in-app message template, ensuring it was working correctly on both our iOS and Android app. Later, we spoke to Phiture again to develop further templates, at which point we made the decision to purchase access to their in-app message development tool, B.Layer.
This tool gives us the ability to build new templates ourselves, and also includes ongoing support and advice for using the tool.
What was the team composition?
On the vendor side, we were involved with Andy Carvell who helped introduce us to Phiture and their capabilities. After that, our primary contact for day-to-day work was and continues to be Alexandre Gorius, who provides development work, strategic advice, and ongoing support for using the B.Layer tool.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
The new in-app message template provided immediate impact that far exceeded our expectations. We used the in-app message template to promote new pieces of content and saw that versus other methods, using in-app message increased engagement with the highlighted content by over 4000%. Internally, our Product and Design team were thrilled with the possibilities the new templates provided, and we continue to use Phiture-built in-app message templates with great success.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
We were extremely pleased with how efficiently the project with Phiture was conducted. Communication was clear and frequent, the template was delivered very quickly, and any issues were immediately addressed. In particular, it's worth highlighting how attentive our main contact - Alex - was and continues to be.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
Their knowledge of mobile development development and strategy truly sets Phiture apart. It's very reassuring to work with a company that can build you the tools that are needed, while also helping you determine the best way to make use of them.
Are there any areas for improvement?
Not at all! We couldn't be happier with how we've worked with Phiture to-date.

BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I'm a re-engagement manager at an app company focused on health and fitness called Verv Inc. In my role, I'm currently working with a product company with mobile applications in the health sector. We're helping them achieve their goals and engagement in CRM programs.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Phiture?
We hired Phiture to grow our retentions and conversion ratio from free to paid users by integrating CRM tools and developing CRM strategy.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
We’ve involved in a six-month empowerment program that provides CRM training workshops with all aspects of multichannel CRM, focusing on retention and engagement metrics.
In the beginning, the company was lacking in experience with CRM, email marketing, and other programs. We asked Phiture to analyze our business to build the right formula surrounding that. They created a rounded strategy for our user base for half a year, leaving us to implement a plan for the second half.
Previously, we’ve used Facebook and Firebase analytic tools, but, as soon as we integrated the CRM tool, we started to use that as the main analytic tool. Their team also took part in negotiations for a CRM vendor and implementing into our SDK.
What is the team composition?

The project cost between $50,000–$100,000.

We started working with Phiture in June 2018, and it is ongoing. We will be finishing our work in January 2019.

The client has seen an increase in their apps’ downloads, as well as an improvement in their visibility ranking, conversion rates, and app listings on the App Store and Google Play Store. Phiture is supportive, flexible, and responsive, and they care about the client’s business and goals.
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this
client over the phone. Below is an edited
transcript.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I work for a large design software company in the San Francisco Bay area, and I’m a senior product manager for app store optimization.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Phiture?
We were trying to drive new customers into the franchise and encourage them to download our apps to get more installs globally.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Phiture is helping us with app store optimization. First, we reviewed their credentials, and they issued a proposal. We started working on optimizing one app in four geographic locations. Now, we’ve expanded our engagement, and we’ve been working with them on 10 different apps that are being sold and provided globally.
They identify opportunities to improve our app listings on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, and they help us with our apps’ marketing, testing, and analytics. They’ve also created some very useful dashboards for us, so we can analyze our results and monitor how we are doing.
App store optimization includes many elements, and one of the big criteria that we work on is keyword optimization to improve our ranking. Phiture helps us identify the particular keywords that should be incorporated into the listing, including the words required in the title, subtitle, and description, and they also identify opportunities to improve the apps’ screenshots and videos to make sure that they’re relevant locally across the globe.
What is the team composition?
In the beginning, we worked with four people from Phiture, including an account manager, a designer, an analyst, and a senior lead. Now, we’ve expanded our engagement, and we have data scientists and engineers working for us. They also offer translation services in the background, but I don’t communicate directly with the translators.
How did you come to work with Phiture?
When we started working together, there weren't a lot of app store optimization agencies. A person I work with found Phiture in an article, and we called them.
How much have you invested with them?
My portion of their engagement is a subset, but I think that we’ve spent over $5 million in total so far.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in October 2018, and our engagement is ongoing.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We measure the success of our engagement based on the number of downloads from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store, as well as on our visibility ranking and our conversion percentages — all those aspects have been improving. Phiture has done a great job at partnering and scaling with us along the way.
How did Phiture perform from a project management standpoint?
Phiture has done a very good job with project management. They’re very flexible, supportive, and adaptable, and they’ve been very responsive to a lot of change. We started using Asana to manage the project.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Phiture’s willingness to roll up their sleeves, look at my business the same way that I do, partner with me, and really care about meeting our goals is impressive.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I don’t know what Phiture could improve on. We’ve worked together through COVID-19, and we work remotely very well. They’re in Berlin, and I’m in the San Francisco Bay area, so time zones are the only challenge. However, they’re very flexible about that, and we’ve developed a very good synergy.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Make sure that they get enough input and background on your business so they can truly understand it and contribute to it. Treat them as a partner within your business and not as an agency.
Some of the downfalls I’ve seen in the past are occasionated when a client works with an agency, and they don’t give them enough information to be able to understand the business and contribute to it.
