Initially, we wanted to see if our app would be viable at all. After their prototype confirmed the app was viable, we wanted to build it out to launch.

We evaluated approximately 10 different software developers before settling on The One Technologies. They impressed us on several metrics including technical knowledge, experience, value for money, clear communication, and clear pricing.

They designed and built a web app linked to an SQL database that pulls data from several APIs. The data is aggregated and then displayed to users, who are then able to apply their own filters to analyze the dataset.

The portal needed consumer- and admin-facing sides. The consumer portal would allow registered members to claims rewards based on points accumulated. The admin portal would let us manage members, points, and order fulfillment.

We provided the design, documentation, and specifications for features and architecture. The One Technologies then used agile methodology to develop the website. We’ve since extended the project to add extra features.

Their team included one developer and multiple testers. Our side had one developer, one manager, and one tester.

The results exceeded our expectations. They were careful in meeting our criteria, open to input, and dedicated to getting the job done. The team also resolved issues promptly and with ease.

They worked in sprints, using Jira and Visual Studio Team Services (VSTS). We didn’t have issues with language or cultural barriers.

The team was dedicated to the project and approached deadlines and payments with a unique level of honesty. These are guys I can trust.

They should provide an online issue management portal to make resolutions more transparent. The tool could also streamline communication within the team.

I’m the president and founder of Matchbox Services, an enterprise B2B software as a service (SaaS) solution that allows our enterprise customers to connect with commercial third-party data.

What challenge were you trying to address with The One Technologies?

We wanted to move away from being a client-server software to being a SaaS solution, but we didn’t have the in-house expertise. We needed someone who was familiar with Azure and able to migrate our existing solutions to the web using technologies like ASP.NET.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Most of the requirements we provided were built in-house. They used those to create all the pieces of our SaaS solution, from development to UX and design. They also built out all of the ASP.NET components and the templates that we needed for the solutions. Once that was finished, they were also responsible for deploying and maintaining it, as well as building out the RESTful APIs. These APIs interact with our core solution to deliver features many of our high-profile customers need, such as file uploading, real-time updating, and integration with Matchbook FX and Salesforce.

How did you come to work with The One Technologies?

We identified a number of companies with the domain expertise we needed on Upwork. The evaluation process included having them build some quick prototypes for us. Based on those results, we chose The One Technologies.

The project has cost over $150,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in November 2015 and the work is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Thanks to their work, we were able to build out our platform and release it to production on time. We started delivering to customers in November 2017 and we’ve been able to meet their unique requirements in a timely fashion since then.

In terms of the software itself, the platform is stable and we haven’t had any crashes. We typically go through a very standardized development methodology, so, in most cases, they find the bugs in testing or QA. On the few occasions that our customers have noticed bugs, The One Technology has resolved them quickly and effectively.

How did The One Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

Their team handles most of the team management and tracking of project tasks. They do a great job meeting all our deadlines. We also use an agile methodology and manage our sprints with Jira.  It’s a very collaborative process with regard to what we take on and what we deliver.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have talented, high-quality experts who understand the technologies we need. Not only that, we’ve seen very low turnover since we started working with them. Most of the people who began our project are still working with us, which is impressive for an offshore company.

On top of that, they’ve always been very responsive to our needs. They quickly learn any new technologies we ask for and deliver great results. We’ve had them work on a number of cutting-edge technology platforms and it’s always gone smoothly.

Try them out. They’re very trustworthy, honest, and deliver with high quality standards. If you give them good requirements, they’ll excel at delivering.

I’m the owner of BorderTraffic.com. Using patented video technology, the site tracks live wait times at border crossing locations around the world.

What challenge were you trying to address with The One Technologies?

We initially hired them to build out our website. Later, we brought them in to develop our platform’s mobile app.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Our internal team designed the site’s logo and theme while The One Technologies developed the platform per our specifications. We requested that they build everything using an ASP.NET framework. The website includes login functionality and a maintainable database that stores mobile device IDs. Users can click on individual cameras to bring up a near real-time video clip. Those clips can be easily shared on social platforms.

To accompany the website, The One Technologies also developed a custom mobile app for iOS and Android. We outlined the UX on a flow chart, but they collaborated with us on the final design. They implemented a feature that enables users to time their border crossing experience. The software prompts the user to include information like the time of day and the specific lane they’re in throughout the process. The app is capable of sending personalized notifications to users regarding the wait times at specific border locations. Their team integrated payment systems like PayPal into both the mobile and web app.

What is the team composition?

We primarily interact with two project managers. Each resource leads the iOS and Android team, respectively. I’d say 3–5 people work on our projects in total.

We worked with their founder through another company. He left to start his own firm, so we followed him.

We’ve spent around $50,000.

We started working together in January 2015 and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our website maintains roughly 300,000 unique users per month. Meanwhile, the app currently has 10,000 active users. People love the service we provide and say our system is easy to use. The One Technologies can usually address bugs or system issues within a quick timeframe. The website hasn’t experienced any downtime.

How did The One Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?

We primarily communicate via email or a collaborative project management website. They utilize Skype and phone calls as needed. Our time zones are 12 hours apart, but they’re still highly responsive. We communicate on a daily basis and hold meetings every two weeks as needed. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They believe in our success despite only being a small startup. Their flexible payment plan helps us achieve things that might not be possible otherwise.

Are there any areas they could improve?

While they’ve made tremendous strides in this area since the engagement began, their QC process isn’t where I’d like it to be.
