They provided a comprehensive range of services, in order to complete the project for us. We were provided with a project manager who performed a very effective organisational and communications role. NMG Technologies assessed the existing website that was in place and then presented us with a clear strategy to achieve the required PHP transition.
They explained key dates at the outset and we were provided with access to their project management portal. We found this to be an invaluable tool and their team kept us updated on project progress throughout. This, in turn, ensured that we were able to update our client and to reassure them that all was in hand.
At various stages in the process, we were given access to assist with testing individual elements. This was important to us because it meant that we were able to measure progress and to check that there were no issues that the client might be concerned about.
I think that what was particularly impressive about the way that NMG Technologies performed was that we were actually able to give them very little documentation at the outset. Once we had the final FSD, we moved onto mockup designs of each page. We then created an HTML prototype that we could test and provide feedback before the full backend development.
Simultaneously, NMG Technologies worked on the back-office platform that we can test on a weekly basis. Once the backend development and administrative platform were finished, we released beta versions for final testing before the launch.

Lastly, the team is very quick to fix all of the bugs that we found during the beta testing. After the development was done, we decided to hire NMG Technologies for ongoing maintenance of the site.

We use Zoho as our communication tool to share progress and issues, and we use Skype for weekly conference calls. Overall, the team as a whole is very responsive. They guided us expertly through each milestone.

I researched for vendors on Google and stumbled upon their site. I liked their branding, which was a strong selling point for me, and enjoyed their sales pitch.

They created a database and directory. In addition to these key features, they designed a paid membership into which advertisers could buy at various levels to unlock features. Using the website, pageants can highlight certain contestants and each constituent can manage their own profile.

I worked with two or three people.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
The site looked good, and its branding was strong.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
Their communication was poor and they didn't understand my needs. For example, at one point I found a glitch. When I added a constituent to the pageant, their profile didn't appear on the event page. NMG Technologies said that automatically populating the content of one profile into another was outside the scope.
To me, the scope indicated that new constituents would appear on both their own profile and on the event profile. I knew that most of my fans wouldn't take the time to fill out both profiles, especially if their pageant had thousands of participants, and that the directory would look incomplete. They repeatedly stated that this concern was outside the scope, that the solution had already been developed, and that building a feature that automatically curated data would take additional hours.
After I approved those hours, their CEO wanted to change the method of payment to wire transfer. I said it was more convenient for me to send a check, but they said they needed the payment urgently because of a holiday. I couldn't justify spending extra time and money when I could pay by check instead. Eventually, they added a charge to process the check. The proposal said their check processing fee was $15, but they said the amount had increased. Eventually they just sent an invoice that included the original fee.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
I was most impressed by their sales pitch.
Are there any areas for improvement?
They should improve their communication, eliminate surprise costs, and never pressure clients to pay using a different method because money is tight. That's not professional. NMG Technologies would work for companies that need a simple website or traditional e-commerce store, but they don't have the structure to execute complex sites that require a lot of planning and collaboration.

We were hoping to develop a suite of security apps for religious institutions, but we needed more development resources to complete the project.

What was the scope of their involvement?
In addition to building the suite of security apps for Android and iOS, NMG Technologies was responsible for designing the accompanying marketing website and admin panel. Bootstrap and Laravel were used to develop the platforms.
The apps were supposed to use indoor location services via Bluetooth beacons, which could be managed with the admin panel. We also wanted to integrate a few emergency tools that allow users to contact local police departments and track their response times.

Overall, we received an inoperative admin panel, unusable apps, and an incomplete website. The Android app is not able to store login information or connect to Bluetooth beacons. There is a bit more functionality on the iOS app, but there are occasional issues with connectivity. It is also impossible to configure beacons on the admin panel because the IDs are not compatible.
Although we parted ways with NMG Technologies, we’re still resolving issues from the partnership. They wouldn’t give us access to the server without a hefty payout, which put us at a more significant loss. The app was hacked, and our Plivo account was compromised because the app wasn’t secure. The development has been halted due to the security breach.
How was project management handled?
There appeared to be no logic behind their development process. When voicing our concerns with their work, the project manager became extremely confrontational. They told us they would be using Zoho to manage the project, but I could never find what I was looking for on Zoho. The scope of the FSD only required that I inform them of issues via email, so I switched to that process, which they did not like.
Making requests for edits fell on deaf ears and simple requests were rejected as outside the scope of the FSD.
Is there anything that the vendor did well or that you would consider a strength?
Their work did not match the quality of their sales pitch.
In what specific areas can they improve?
The project manager was effective in meeting deadlines but not very helpful in other areas. All of our questions and concerns were met with opposition, and our requests were vehemently denied.
What advice do you have for clients with similar needs to yours?
I would not recommend working with them.

With due respect, we believe this review misrepresents our capabilities and track record. The project was a fixed bid with an agreed-to scope with milestone payments. The client was to review each deliverable and release payment only after due approval.
As a startup, the client had everchanging ideas, especially since this was their first security technology application project. During the engagement, we humbly accommodated feedback and change requests. This process included regular updates and three weekly Zoom meetings. We recommended our project management system, but the client decided on email, citing it would not be possible to use that solution.
We are disappointed in the client’s expectation that they should get complimentary changes after the project ended. This was a result of their showcasing the app to different stakeholders. We found that unprofessional and disappointing.
Our team—especially our project managers—have always been humble, responsible, and conscientious about feedback.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I work for a marketing research firm that incentivizes consumers, business owners, insurance producers, financial advisors, and mortgage brokers across the US and Canada to forward all the direct marketing they receive. We scan and convert that data into an optical character recognition (OCR) searchable PTD and upload it into our database. We sell subscription access to our data that allows our clients to see their competition from a direct marketing perspective.

What challenge were you trying to address with NMG Technologies?
We were previously working with a Chicago-based web development vendor, and we outgrew that relationship. We were looking for a vendor who could help maintain our current application, while also helping us grow into the future.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
NMG creates all kinds of technical solutions. Initially, NMG was integral in helping us migrate to AWS from a project management perspective. They guided us on how our app was going to fit with AWS.
More recently, their team designed and implemented a mail-copy identification software. It scans and gets rid of duplicate copies of mail and ads we receive to increase operational efficiency. Their developers currently provide ongoing maintenance and help us rebrand our website.
What is the team composition?
We work with four full-time developers, one part-time project manager, one part-time QA, and one full-time system administrator.
How did you come to work with NMG Technologies?
We reached out to ten companies and five returned our calls. NMG was one of those companies and incredibly responsive. From the time that we submitted our request for information, they answered back within the hour. They also quickly understood our requirements.
How much have you invested with them?
We invested $350,000 thus far.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started in August 2016 and the work is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Compared to the vendor we were previously using, NMG’s quality and output have been excellent. Hiring them has been probably one of the best business decisions we've made as a company. Their affordability, availability, expertise, and willingness to go above and beyond have had a tremendous on the optimization of our business services thus far.
How did NMG Technologies perform from a project management standpoint?
During our migration, we were on the phone every single day for seven months. From there, we gradually decreased the amount of communication. We now talk over Skype or the phone once a week or whenever we need them. They have highly talented, responsive, and highly-capable individuals managing our project. English is their second language, but nothing’s ever lost in translation. I've actually visited them in New Delhi, and they were great.
What did you find most impressive about them?
We’re impressed by their willingness to go above and beyond. Whenever unforeseen challenges come up, they work with us over countless weekends to make sure we succeed. They make sure everything is high-quality, done on time, and within our budget. Compared to our previous vendor, they don’t charge us for every little thing and provide great value.
Are there any areas they could improve?
They could add some additional expertise on their staff to become an indispensable vendor. If they had some digital differential analyzers (DDA) or cloud engineers, I wouldn’t have to go to another vendor.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Make sure you fully understand your vision and communicate it well. Have the patience to go through the requirements and take it to step by step. Have the flexibility to know that things will not always go according to plan. As long as you have very clearly defined requirements and expectations, you can ensure a successful project.
