I’m the CTO of a company that builds a platform for large enterprises to manage their learning programs. We help their learners self-manage their learning experience; they also undergo formal learning with different content providers. Essentially, our clients are growth-minded organizations, and our software helps them learn. We also help their managers follow up on metrics around their investment in learning time.

What challenge were you trying to address with Neoteric?

As a young startup in a competitive market, we need to move fast to scale up. We need to find markets and build things quickly. As a result, we’ve brought in Neoteric to help staff up our team. For context, we’ve used other suppliers and software houses before, but we’ve had huge problems with our own recruitment efforts.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We use Neoteric to help us build features within our platform; they’ve been involved in creating many front- and backend features for our product. We’re constantly running experiments in an agile fashion. Examples of the work they’ve handled include user management and reports of learner flows. Overall, they comprise roughly 30% of our total development capacity. 

We’ve also had smaller engagements with Neoteric, where they’ve brought in external expertise. The team has also run a few workshops for us, teaching us about integrations within our teams while offering architectural guidance. In other words, Neoteric serves as our long-term contractors with consultants coming in for specialized engagements.

We mainly work with three people from Neoteric, and they’re all full-stack developers. They mainly work with TypeScript and React, along with MongoDB servers. 

How did you come to work with Neoteric?

Our company talked to many vendors to find a team capable to help us. At one point, we engaged Neoteric and 2–3 other software houses at the same time. Neoteric stood out as the team that was easiest to manage. Their resources were easy to talk to, and they managed their retention rates better than their competitors. Simply put, we chose them because of their stability and the ease of working with them; they could quickly iterate the right profiles and locate the right resources.

We’ve spent around $250,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Neoteric in June 2021, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We don’t have many hard success metrics, but the metrics we do have are fairly standard. Our team checks the code’s health and gives overall feedback for Neoteric’s work. I can also be fairly hands-on since we’re a small team. What’s been truly nice about them is their strong sense of ownership. 

Moreover, their resources are also receptive to feedback, and they’ve been active participants in the coding process. The team actively shares what they know. Every time a problem happens, they step up and dig into the matter. From that perspective, Neoteric has served like our true employees. 

How did Neoteric perform from a project management standpoint?

Neoteric has been highly communicative. While we do our own delivery management, their team is good at following up and participating. They tell us when estimates seem inaccurate and then find reasonable solutions. They contribute to the making of highly sensible plans. On top of that, hitting deadlines and critical delivery goals has never been a problem for them. 

For project management tools, we use Jira for everything. We track every issue using tickets. Our teams also use Jira for communications and standups. Meanwhile, the complete code review happens on GitHub. Most of our communications happen openly and transparently. Their resources also quickly adapt to our way of working and communications. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

The account manager that Neoteric has assigned to us has been truly easy to talk to and approachable. We never have to wait for an answer. If there’s an issue and we send him an email, we receive a quick answer. He’s always ready to hop on a call with us. 

Moreover, their team gives us a nice heads up when things need to change for any reason. Overall, they’ve been truly active in the relationship, which I highly appreciate. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there aren’t any. The problems we’ve had are due to external circumstances, and Neoteric has been a nice partner. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Spend the time upfront to talk about your culture. Don’t focus solely on technology; they’re good at that, but they also have a wide range of personalities that can match your requirements. In our case, we need people who are strong at everything. On top of that, when they present you with profiles, don’t be afraid to give feedback because they’re super receptive.

I am a product owner at Nanoramic, a unique R&D engineering company in the US. Our focus is applying technology to the problems of the energy storage and thermal management industry.

We develop cutting-edge materials, structures, and processes based on carbon composites, through which we’ve positioned ourselves as disruptive leaders in innovative, scalable, cross-industry technologies.

What challenge were you trying to address with Neoteric?

We have a complex business model that requires heavy customization and extension of our ERP based on Odoo open source ERP and a lot of AWS services. We needed a new application that was embedded in Odoo frontend and a stand-alone app for the second project.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Neoteric provides our team with custom software development and several other projects. The first project we completed was a workplace organization app based on "5S methodology" that uses a list of five Japanese words translated as "sort," "set in order," "shine," "standardize," and "sustain." We added "safety" as a sixth step. The purpose of the app is to boost situational awareness at our company. The app enables administrators to draw the areas of the facility and link corresponding areas in Odoo. The app helps to see the inspection status of each area, the percentage of its completion, and its score in a numeric value.

Our ongoing project is the development of a performance management system for employees called Balanced Score Cards. The main intent of the app is quarterly strategy maps that show in real-time the status of a quarter. These are mapped to Balanced Scorecards that are tracking actual vs a Triade of targets (TTS - Threshold, Target, Stretch).

It also allows the automatic collection of data from other apps, as well as manual collection.
Regarding technologies, they used Angular, TypeScript, and JointJS for the application itself. Jasmine and Karma were used for unit testing, Cucumber for E2E tests, and GitHub for sharing CD.

We work with a senior software engineer, a software engineer, an intern software engineer, a QA engineer, and a scrum master.

So far, we’ve spent around $140,000 USD.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in July 2021, and it’s still ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We don’t really have a means of measuring cost and time related so the project might be difficult to assess. However, the maps we’ve developed are posted on screens throughout the facility and so far, they’ve been effective when it comes to situational awareness.

How did Neoteric perform from a project management standpoint?

For the first project, we used Jira and Kanban, and implemented some scrum methods for the demos and planning sessions. For communication, we used Slack and Google Meet. For the second project, we’ve been fully using the scrum methodology, and the UI/UX designs and User stories are also provided by us.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We’re very impressed with the quality of their deliverables. The Neoteric team has a good sense of responsibility, professionalism, and they’re always quick to respond to our concerns.

The project management style was very modern, they were really up to find my way of thinking. If they couldn't get it one way they were trying another one. Neoteric has aided us from the prototype development to the implementation of our progressive web app solution. We’ve appointed them to work on the backend of our app and coordinate with our frontend developers. Neoteric is definitely one of the best software development contractors that I’ve worked with over the past 20 years. We set target deliverable gates that were vital in preparing demonstrators for our key customers, one of which was our MVP. Neoteric has helped us meet all the gates that I’ve plotted out in our timeline. Their team has been an integral part of our success, and I’m looking forward to meeting more business milestones with their help.

We mainly use Taiga and Jira as our project management tools. Neoteric utilizes an agile methodology in delivering the development solutions that we need. From a project management perspective, their team effectively meets our deadlines and expectations. 

Additionally, they swear by a steady workflow that allows them to pace their tasks accordingly, depending on urgency and priority. This is important to us because there are instances wherein we need some deliverables to be expedited. If not handled well, those sudden alterations can affect our development cycle, but Neoteric is keen on making sure that our flow is not disrupted and any timeline disruptions are minimized.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Neoteric is a very reliable team — their responsiveness to deadlines is integral in the success of our project, and they never fail to deliver. They take our business seriously, and we’re always reminded of that through their transparency and accountability. Overall, I can confidently say that their professionalism and team ethics are both at a very desirable level.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Neoteric has effective and affordable services — I honestly don’t think there’s an aspect of the project that they could’ve done better or differently.

Be upfront in outlining your goals and expectations. Neoteric is a very accountable and reliable team, so they’ll appreciate it if you relay everything you need them to do from the get-go.

Scope of work included a wide spectrum of services - starting from project planning and workshops at the beginning, through design (UX/UI phase), until the release and moving all parts of the infrastructure to the final destination. We also use maintenance of the system.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The team worked so well we decided to set up a maintenance contract with them. The team managed to deliver all goals on time and at top quality.

The communication and project management style were very professional. On the daily basis we used JIRA and Slack. The team members responded to posed questions very fast and with enough clarification. I recall summary calls (backlog refinement) being very positive due to delivered results. The team members' engagement in the project was visible from day 1.

The engagement of team members in the project was most impressive. Aside from being IT experts, all project members were very helpful, open and managed to explain technical matters to non-IT people in accessible manner. Also, during the cooperation one could sense a good understanding and energized, positive atmosphere among project team members.

Design phase could have gone smoother.

I’m the head of product and engineering for an online gaming portal.

What challenge were you trying to address with Neoteric?

We needed to build an online platform that would allow users to play a chess-inspired game with four people.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We passed the design to Neoteric, and then their team made the game’s rules engine to make it more robust. We provided them with most of the research, but they also conducted R&D around the engine. Their team took pointers from us too. After creating the rules, they began developing our platform.

Neoteric built the backend in Java and Springboard services. They developed the frontend in React, and the platform’s deployed on AWS. Their team is nearly done building the platform, so only a couple of pieces remain. We’ll have an internal tournament soon.

What is the team composition?

At any given point, we’re working with four people from Neoteric. We, in total, have worked with 10 people on their team.

How did you come to work with Neoteric?

I initially researched different vendors, but a friend ultimately recommended Neoteric. I had a decent experience working with them on another project and then reached out to them about collaborating on this one. We had a couple of conversations with their sales representatives and agreed on a six-week trial. After six weeks, we were happy with their progress and decided to extend the contract.

So far, we’ve spent between $100,000–$250,000 on their services.

We started working together in July 2020, and our partnership is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Neoteric is a critical player in this project. This project is in a complicated niche, and their team did extensive R&D for it. They're a trusted vendor who makes a significant impact. As a playable game is a minimum for receiving user feedback, we don’t have any yet.

How did Neoteric perform from a project management standpoint?

We have a shared Slack channel, so everything’s transparent. For paperwork and contract-related topics, we communicate via email. I also meet with the team twice a week.

We follow a Scrum methodology and run against weekly sprints. Sprint planning reviews take place every Tuesday and Thursday, and there’s a backlog grooming session.

I’m satisfied with how their team manages the project. When we decided to take a couple of different directions, Neoteric rolled with the changes and didn’t fuss about them. They initially set a structure and have adapted it as our circumstances have changed.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Neoteric has great communication, so they’re always available and quickly respond to us. When their team didn’t have a specific skill set related to the back engine, they found and brought someone with that expertise on board. They’re flexible and provide great customer service.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There was a bit of turnover that caused a stop-and-start effect due to onboarding new people. As we changed requirements multiple times, the turnover was partially our fault. However, Neoteric could’ve handled it better.

I recommend working with Neoteric. It’s important to know what you want and be transparent. Their team’s responsive to feedback, so they’ll respond to your honestly. It’s also valuable to be able to look ahead about two months.

I am co-founder and CTO at Gizmi - a chat-commerce platform created to help selling digital goods via chat apps.

For what projects/services did your company hire Neoteric, and what were your goals?

We had problems configuring and integrating facebook app with our system and external provider Smooch. We struggeled both with app review permissions and changing our source code as well. Our goal was to receive approval of required facebook app permissions and sucessfully integrate it with our platform.

SOLUTION

How did you select Neoteric and what were the deciding factors?

We came across Neoteric during our search for IT solutions provider via linkedin and IT platforms. We ended up with four companies. All of them were informed that this task is time sensitive and crutial to our project in terms of our alfa-launch schedule and investor relations.

The most important factor for us was Neoteric's proactive attitude. After the initial talks and signing NDA they started with thorough review of our code and previously configured facebook app, and came up with a propable solution within one busienss day. And that was their time and resources investment - becouse we were not charged for that initial audit.

They deployed testing environment to understand the scope of the problem and to design and test all implemented changes. They configured facebook app and helped preparing descriptions and materials for app review They modified the code to address the error occuring while connecting facebook account with our platform

They performed overall test of the implementation using both test accouns and real user accounts. They provided documentation that described the scope of works and will be added to our platform documentation.

There were 3 people involved in the project. Client Partner who assembled our dev team, managed legal arrangement etc Senior Software Developer who helped finding the isuues with our software and facebook app during the initial phase of cooperations, and Software Developer who worked with us on daily basis and made all the neccessary coding, testing and configuring.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We managed to deploy facebookapp within 1 business day and make other necessary coding and configuring in the next 3 days. Final tests and production deployment took place in 6th day of our coopoeration. Since then the app and the system runs seamingly

The project management was very good, We used google meet for initial talks and while discussing possible solutions. On daily basis we communicated via Slack which is our primary communication tool.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

We had access to our developer at our discretion during the project. The communaction was always great and fast, no hour-burning attitude - on the contrary - their proactiveness especially at the begining when they've found the solution before even starting the project, was the most impressive thing we have enountered on the IT market.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

At this point I can't think of any improvement areas they should focus on.

I’ve worked with Neoteric within the IT innovation team at my organization, where we have a sandbox innovation hub. I’m the team lead on these projects.

What challenge were you trying to address with Neoteric?

They supported the development of a few prototypes. We liked their communication and work quality, so we hired them for the next part of the project.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

There were two main projects. The first is a free app that facilitates a youth skills assessment. Youth users can complete tests and quizzes to receive feedback on their skills. We used their development and IT resources for that project. The second project is a readiness training platform for disadvantaged, unemployed youth. We’re currently working on building out the work readiness app. 

Their work involved UX frontend design, development, algorithmic work, prototype builds, and AI tasks. We’re handling most of the design work in-house, but they’ve become a great sounding board for UX advice. They’re able to provide feedback and guidance as well.

They’re the main partner of the IT innovation team at my organization.

We started working with them around March 2020 and are still collaborating with them.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We were under a lot of pressure to deliver on a tight timeline, and they were able to meet our deadlines. That was remarkable and seemingly impossible. We’re just starting to launch, but they’ve performed incredibly across metrics so far. 

The final app will serve as an open-source tool, aiming to reach disadvantaged youth across developing countries to help them reach more opportunities. Their work will have a huge impact in tons of ways, so we’re looking forward to its launch.  

How did Neoteric perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve been excellent, clear communicators. We meet either once or twice a week, and they have a clear way of structuring their work. When they go through the onboarding process, it’s very well explained. They also do frequent assessments to manage or pivot the project as needed. Their team is always making sure the project is running the best way it can. If there’s something wrong, they’re trying to pivot and improve.  

What did you find most impressive about them?

I haven’t worked with another firm that matches their professionalism, quality of output, and reasonable costs. They’re amenable to their clients and produce very high-quality work. I recommend them to everyone. If I had the opportunity to work exclusively with them, I would.

Not at the moment. They’re doing great.

As long as you communicate well and know what you want from them, they’re going to be able to deliver a great product.

Neoteric was tasked with developing the frontend of our MVP as a responsive React webapp according to existing branding and designs.

How did you select Neoteric and what were the deciding factors?

We have been screening several vendors in the space and Neoteric won the competition thanks to excellent communication and ability to quickly frame our needs.

They setup the frontend application from scratch handling everything from repo, CI/CD and automated code quality checks. The key deliverable is a responsive webapp implemented in React, styled according to our branding and designs and integrated with our backend which includes WebRTC components and a third party authentication service.

There was 1 Software Engineer allocated full time and 1 Agile Delivery Lead to help with project managing; other resources helped overseeing the project.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Excellent code quality and work ethics. We achieved more than we were hoping to thanks to the technical skills and proactive attitude of the developer who explored and implemented solutions which are a much better fit to our needs than what was presented to him as an explicit requirement from us.
