What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our SEO and PPC functions have grown significantly. We use a series of KPI reporting, and they’ve been reporting through lockdown because we started the engagement when the COVID-19 pandemic started. The market has been distorted due to that, but our website live visitors have gone from 5,100 to 19,300. Also, we’re noticing that thanks to their SEO and PPC services, we’re now targeting and focusing on clients that can pay our services, which is a great metric for us.

We generally communicate through email. In my perception, they don’t seem to be big fans of having direct telephone numbers, but I can get a hold of Charlie if I need him. We also get a monthly printout of where we’re going, SEO and PPC wise. They’re more than happy to engage in any discussion about that. We’ve reviewed performance every six months so far, and we’re not worried about that side of things.

We think it’d be better to have direct telephone numbers so we can get directly to the person rather than going through the general website.

Minty carried out keyword research for the PPC and asked us to verify this before implementing the research into the different campaigns. They clearly spent a lot of time optimising the campaigns and regularly made suggestions as to how they could improve them, such as running ads on YouTube alongside those on Google search. For the social media ads, they built relevant audiences on Facebook and optimised them on an ongoing basis to ensure we received regular downloads of our lead magnet content.

I’m the CMO of a startup called One Year No Beer and we help people change their relationship with alcohol through an e-commerce product.

We wanted to reduce our cost per acquisition and to venture out into additional acquisition channels apart from Facebook ads.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We worked with them on an analytics audit, and then they helped us set up all of our tracking which involved making sure that our analytics were set up properly, as well as our e-commerce tracking. We focused on getting us set up with Google Ads, both search and display.

 As we reference alcohol, we get blocked a lot by Google, and even though we aren’t an AA or alcoholics platform, we still have to go through the same vetting. They have helped us a lot with working through different strategies, looking at different ways to approach our keywords and things to make sure that we get in front of the right audience, and not people that are searching for rehab and similar things. 

They are on a retainer for any new products that we set up or to help with issues we have with the various parts of our site.

There are so many touchpoints and we don’t know necessarily know exactly what contributes to each thing independently, but I would say from a brand search perspective, they definitely deliver well above a 1.5% return on ad spend.

We use Slack, WhatsApp, and email to communicate. They are always available to us and are very proactive.

They work as part of your team. They are very open to ideas and conversations, and they are flexible. From a delivery perspective, they deliver well and come with fresh ideas.

You should have as much information as possible on the project and the brand, or what they are trying to achieve in advance. The more that they have to work with, the more they can do.

We’re gradually increasing inbound traffic. The YouTube channel has 205,000 impressions per month. We're seeing high clickthrough rates and conversion rates. We ended up needed to launch accounting services earlier than planned because we're approaching the subscriber limit for monetizing the YouTube channel. We're very happy with the relationship.

We have a touchpoint every couple of weeks, and they’re very responsive. They’re quick to help when we need it.

It would be great to see their services expand to additional language markets in the future. We deal with the Spanish language quite frequently, so it would be helpful if they were skilled in implementation outside of the English language.

SEO work is defined by a strategy that includes producing onsite written content as well as creating guest blogs for relevant high authority sites in the industry.

They also provide and implement a back-link strategy as well as finding optimization opportunities to improve ranking for specific keywords. PPC work includes keyword research, ad copy, implementing the ads, testing different approaches to bring cost per click down and analysis of results including recommendations.

Monthly tasks are managed through our designated project managers however I have regular contact with the owner to go through overarching results and vision.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Moved ranking from second or third page to the top of the first page for notable keywords. High-quality backlinks in place, as well as quality content on authoritative sites. Increasing PPC conversion rates by 10% month on month.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

They provide monthly reports with recommendations and we schedule in meetings when necessary. The team, including the owner, is very responsive and flexible to our needs. They are also very proactive and provide recommendations based on current performance and new opportunities, which is incredibly helpful to the team.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The ability for the team to understand complex topics very quickly and produce quality content. But more importantly the trust I hold with the team. The team is very responsive, flexible to our needs and makes proactive suggestions based on immediate performance and opportunities.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Our search volumes have exploded to the best that they have ever been. We saw a slow change in results over the first 12 months while small tweaks and improvements were made.

Then in the last 3 months, all search volumes have seen a huge increase, but the work Minty did meant we were able to capitalise on these volumes as our visibility is much greater than it was. No one could have anticipated the huge increases in overall search volumes, but the work Minty did meant we were well placed to capitalise in this..

It ebbed-and-flowed in the early stages. We felt we needed a bit more transparency in what was happening. As a result, minty introduced monthly reports where we can see the breakdown of jobs completed. Additionally, in the last 3 months we have created a slack channel for instant communication which has helped a lot.

Flexibility of the service and willingness to solve one-off problems as they pop up with very little quibble.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Although Minty Digital offers services like web development and design, SEO work, and other social media expertise, they specifically provided us with Facebook and Google Ads support. We relied on them for their added insights and their alternative way of thinking. 

Their service allowed me to bounce ideas and discover new ones. For example, for competition, we used a software called ManyHats, which allowed us to see customers that responded to our prize competition on Facebook. We could then retarget them or to add them to our newsletter.

I knew of Minty Digital from a previous role. When my workload became a bit too much and I needed help, Charlie was the first person I called. Knowing him previously and already having that trust with him made the decision to partner with Minty Digital that much easier.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working with Minty Digital in December 2018, and we stopped working with them at the end of April 2020. It had nothing to do with the competency of the agency, but we’ve reduced our marketing spend due to the coronavirus. When the lockdown is lifted, we’re looking to work with them again.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We measure success by number of conversions compared to cost per conversion. In one month, we managed to reduce the cost per conversion significantly, by about 50%. We’re particularly pleased with that. We’ve identified new keywords and improved our quality score by improving our ad relevance. 

Within a month, Charlie had proven that partnering with him was by far the correct decision. The added pieces of knowledge and holistic thinking he provided, along with his caring about our performance and how we were doing, are what made him really valuable.

How did Minty Digital perform from a project management standpoint?

Charlie provided in-depth customer service, quick turnaround in terms of emails and changing things on our AdWords and Facebook accounts. We all corresponded through Slack. I felt it was a good team effort, whereby people could communicate in real-time. We also had weekly calls to catch up.

What did you find most impressive about them?

It’s very easy to build trust with Charlie. He tells it as it is, and building rapport is very important to us as a company. Also, Minty Digital cares deeply about their work. They didn’t just do their job; they continually gave us ways of improving our business, going beyond their scope of work in order to improve our overall performance.

No. There weren’t many things that could’ve been improved on.

Know your business, know your objectives, and know what role you want Minty Digital to take. Have a clear strategic plan at the onset.
