Describe the scope of work in detail. Please include a summary of key deliverables.
Foghorn Labs engaged DataVinci to modernize and standardize our client-facing digital marketing dashboards, recognizing that reporting is a core, value-defining component of our long-term client engagements. These dashboards are not standalone products; they are an integral part of how we deliver, explain, and optimize paid media, SEO, and lifecycle marketing for DTC e-commerce clients.
At a high level, we were seeking a scalable, executive-ready reporting system that consolidates performance across marketing channels, surfaces insights that native platforms cannot, and supports both client stakeholders and Foghorn’s internal account teams during ongoing strategy and performance discussions.
Core Objectives:
Create a standardized, scalable dashboard template that can be rolled out across our entire client base, with modular components that can be easily added or removed depending on each client’s channel mix.
Elevate the reporting experience to a CMO level, with a clear top-level marketing rollup supported by deeper, platform-specific views.
Improve insight quality, not just aesthetics—highlighting efficiency, customer acquisition, and cross-channel performance rather than isolated platform metrics.
Modernize UI and data visualization to reflect more advanced marketing strategies, customer journeys, and stakeholder expectations.
Functional Expectations:
A first-page executive marketing overview that clearly communicates overall performance and efficiency.
Clear, consistent definitions via a data glossary, ensuring alignment on metrics and calculations across clients and internal teams.
Inclusion of advanced KPIs such as new customer acquisition cost by channel and marketing efficiency ratios.
Strong documentation to support ongoing maintenance, troubleshooting, and internal onboarding.
Improved performance and usability, including faster load times and flexible time-based comparisons (period-over-period and year-over-year).
Technical & Operational Context:
Dashboards are built in Google Looker Studio, powered by GA4, Google Ads, and Supermetrics connectors.
The solution needed to work across ~30 Shopify-based DTC clients, many of whom share a common reporting structure with light customization.
The output had to support real-world agency workflows, where account managers are the primary day-to-day users and clients consume insights during recurring strategy calls.
Deliverables & Timeline:
Enhancement of the existing core dashboard template with more insightful, modern visualizations.
Rollout of the finalized template across all applicable client dashboards.
Clear internal documentation to ensure longevity and ease of use.
Completion prior to Q4 to support peak-season planning and performance reviews.
In short, Foghorn Labs was not asking for “prettier dashboards.” We were asking for a durable reporting foundation—one that scales with our client base, supports strategic conversations, and reinforces the value of long-term agency partnerships
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
The project resulted in several clear, measurable outcomes that demonstrated meaningful progress and success.
DataVinci began with a structured discovery phase, during which we shared example dashboards, outlined our existing limitations, and provided a detailed list of functional and strategic improvements we were seeking. From this discovery, DataVinci delivered a standardized core dashboard template designed to serve as the foundation for all client reporting, balancing scalability with flexibility. This template was reviewed, refined, and approved before broader rollout.
Following approval, DataVinci partnered closely with our team to implement and customize dashboards for more than 20 individual clients. Each dashboard was tailored to reflect the client’s specific data sources, channel mix, and reporting needs, while still adhering to the standardized framework. Dashboards were prioritized based on business urgency, and multiple rounds of feedback were incorporated to ensure the final outputs met our internal quality standards and client-facing expectations.
Throughout the engagement, DataVinci demonstrated the ability to navigate complex and sometimes ambiguous data challenges—such as connector limitations, data consistency issues, and edge-case client configurations—by proposing and implementing thoughtful, creative solutions. These problem-solving efforts were critical to completing the project as scoped and ensured the dashboards were both functional and reliable at scale.
Overall, the project delivered a repeatable reporting framework, successfully migrated a large portion of our client base onto the new structure, and materially improved our ability to present consistent, executive-level insights across accounts.
Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?
DataVinci’s project management was clear, well-structured, and consistently reliable throughout the engagement.
From the outset, their team established a defined project plan with clear phases, timelines, and milestones, which helped set expectations and maintain momentum. They provided regular status updates and were proactive in communicating progress, upcoming deliverables, and any dependencies that required our input. This level of organization made it easy for our team to plan around the work and prioritize reviews efficiently.
When unforeseen roadblocks or technical constraints arose, DataVinci communicated those issues promptly and transparently. Rather than allowing delays to compound, they clearly explained the cause, proposed next steps, and adjusted timelines as needed. Importantly, these delays were the exception rather than the norm and were handled in a way that preserved trust and clarity.
Overall, deliverables were completed on time and in line with our expectations. The team was responsive to feedback, diligent in addressing our requests, and professional in all communications. Their combination of structured project management and flexibility made them a strong partner for a complex, multi-phase implementation.
What was your primary form of communication with DataVinci Analytics Agency?
- Virtual Meeting
- Email or Messaging App
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
What stood out most was DataVinci’s ability to staff the project with multiple team members while maintaining continuity, context, and quality throughout the engagement.
Several DataVinci employees were dedicated to our project over time, and while new team members were introduced as the work progressed, there was no noticeable drop in understanding or execution. Each person who joined the project demonstrated a strong grasp of our goals, scope, and constraints, which indicated effective internal communication and documentation.
Despite changes in points of contact, the experience remained consistent. The team continued to deliver high-quality work, respond thoughtfully to feedback, and operate with a clear understanding of our needs. This level of internal alignment and knowledge transfer is not always easy to achieve and was particularly impressive given the complexity and duration of the project.
Are there any areas for improvement or something DataVinci Analytics Agency could have done differently?
Overall, there are no major areas for improvement to call out. We were very pleased with DataVinci’s performance and partnership throughout the project.
In practice, the primary constraints tended to be on our side rather than theirs. DataVinci often moved quickly and efficiently, and there were times when our internal team had difficulty matching their pace or providing feedback as quickly as planned. In those instances, DataVinci remained patient, flexible, and supportive, adjusting timelines as needed without sacrificing quality.
If anything, the experience highlighted the importance of internal resourcing and availability when working with a highly responsive partner. DataVinci consistently demonstrated readiness to move work forward and collaborated effectively despite occasional delays driven by our internal bandwidth.
