I’m the founder and head of product of CoverageBook, a SaaS company in the martech space. We have a reporting platform for PR.

What challenge were you trying to address with Clockwise Software?
We needed help with product development. We were previously in-house with full-time permanent employees and a dedicated office. We decided to change the model to be more flexible and scalable.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Clockwise Software provides product development services. We’ve been around for over a decade, so we have an existing legacy product in the marketplace with existing users. We wanted to develop a suite of new features, which is what the team has primarily been working on for the last year. We provide the specifications, requirements, and designs.
However, it’s a very collaborative process. A lot of what we’re doing isn’t necessarily frontend development. There are business logic and infrastructure components. They provide their expertise in terms of how that could be structured.
Our target market is public relations teams, which are agencies or teams within large companies. These teams use our platform to build reports that they send to their clients or stakeholders. They do that by adding their media coverage and content. Then, our product builds a report that includes automated analytics in an impactful, branded report format.
They used Vue.js for frontend development, Ruby on Rails for the app backend, JavaScript and Node.js for other parts of the app, and a combination of AWS and Heroku for hosting.
They handle all product development, so they write every line of code. This covers product feature development, maintenance, bug fixing, and improving data management. They also implement anything that needs to be done.
What is the team composition?
We have an account manager with whom we speak regularly, and a project manager with whom we speak daily. We also work with a team of 3–4 developers and a QA.
How did you come to work with Clockwise Software?
Our first contact was through general research on Upwork. I carried out my own research and shortlisted 4–5 agencies. I did deeper research into each of those agencies. I read reviews of each agency on Clutch and found them. I reached out to them, had calls with them, and looked at the other work they’d done.
How much have you invested with them?
We've spent around $400,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in April 2024, and the engagement is ongoing.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The new features were recently relaunched, so we don’t have specific metrics. We ran a closed beta with some of our existing customers and have since opened it up to the wider market. The feedback has been excellent, and it’s been well received by the market.
The objective of developing these metrics was to allow us to differentiate ourselves in the market and increase our average revenue per customer (ARPC). The ARPC is a good metric to see whether what we’ve created is of value. So far, in terms of the customers signing up for the new features, we’ve increased the ARPC. The value created has been seen by the customers, and they’re paying for the increased revenue. That’s reflective of the value added.
How did Clockwise Software perform from a project management standpoint?
Since this is an R&D project, the goalposts often move, and it’s an experimental process. Sometimes, we’ve needed to change the specifications as we’ve gone along. The team has always been very flexible and adaptable.
We’ve sometimes had to change focus from one thing to another. In particular, we’ve been developing new features while also maintaining the existing product, so there’s sometimes a need to jump from one thing to another. The team has always done that.
We use Jira as the primary project management tool. We also use GitHub, but not necessarily for project management. We use it to manage the codebase. We also use Slack. We communicate on a daily basis through Slack and Google Meet.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The breadth of their skill set is impressive. Our product is large, and the codebase is made up of multiple services. It includes various technologies, and there’s a lot of legacy code. The team has been able to address that and work with the code. They have members with lots of experience working with different codebases. We’ve also been impressed with their flexibility and adaptability. They’ve scaled up when we’ve needed more people to work on the project.
During the engagement, there have been some major issues, nothing to do with them. Sometimes, things go wrong, and we have a bit of an emergency. Their response to it has been excellent. They’ve worked over the weekend and through the night to get things fixed and stabilized. They’ve kept at that pace until we’ve identified and resolved the issues. We've felt very confident that we have a good partner.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, there aren’t any. Their communication is excellent. Whenever there’s been a particular challenge or an interesting problem to solve, they’ve always had the people to do that.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
This is the first time we’ve worked with an external provider. We’ve always managed product development in-house. The better the brief, the more successful the project is. Take the time to provide as much detail as possible. There isn’t too much detail you can provide. It helps everyone on the team.

I’m an executive at BackupLABS, a SaaS company that backs up other companies’ SaaS data. There are lots of apps on the internet, such as GitHub, Notion, Trello, GitLab, and Jira, and all the data is held in the cloud. We back up this data for people.

We needed help with software development to build our platform.

What was the scope of their involvement?
Initially, we did a proof of concept that was the foundation of the feature integrations. Clockwise Software did a very basic proof of concept for backing up GitHub. Then, we did a basic design, and the team handed us the UI/UX design. Clockwise Software then created the basic MVP with GitHub and moved on to GitLab and Trello.
Once we were happy with the product, the team scaled it out. We wanted it to be scalable so that we could add different applications to back up later on. The product had to be modular.
So far, the apps that Clockwise Software has developed integrations with for us are GitHub, GitLab, Trello, Jira, and Notion. The team is currently working on a couple of other apps. Clockwise Software has done all the backend development. Once we were happy with the MVP, we scaled it more.
Clockwise Software doesn’t do hosting; our product is hosted on AWS. However, the team does maintenance.
What is the team composition?
We have a couple of main points of contact. One of them is our account manager, but we speak to Andrew every day on Slack. We also work with a project manager, a backend developer, a frontend developer, a QA engineer, and a UI/UX designer. We also have two other backend developers.

We initially went out to the market and looked at 4–5 different software development companies. We spoke with them at length and decided we liked Clockwise Software. I did a lot of research on them; I found them on Google and saw them on Clutch.

There are always bugs, but we tend to work on the critical ones and jump on them straight away to fix them.

Clockwise Software is very strong in SaaS app development because that’s their core specialty. The team knows how to build scalable products. They don’t just build tiny servers; they build them specifically on AWS so that they can scale. That’s the core thing I want. I don’t want something that will work for six months and then have to rebuild it again.

I hired Clockwise to take me through their Discovery Phase in order to refresh and pivot an existing web application for new purposes. My goals included developing a new UI/UX, define new features and functions, developing marketing materials in order to present to potential investors.

I found Clockwise through a google search and reviewed their website extensively. I was impressed by the quality of their website materials and reached out to them. From the very beginning, the team at Clockwise demonstrated professionalism and creativity.

We kicked off the discovery phase with a clear path to what was to be developed. The key deliverables included a new UI/UX prototype, a software specification, risk matrix, features list, security approach, and a proposal for the full development.

I worked primarily with 3 team members at Clockwise. One Contract manager, one project manager, and one business manager. Several other folks worked behind the scene including developer and designer.

I am taking the materials produced from the Discovery phase in my effort to raise investor/customer interest in the application.

We had weekly review meetings to go over work in-progress. We communicated almost daily using e-mail and Slack for questions and answers.

It took a little while for the team to fully understand the intent of the web application. However, they were quick and diligent to study all the basis materials I provided and the process smoothed out after that.

Most of the projects Clockwise Software worked on were based on building backend infrastructure and frontend for customer-facing products in the e-commerce space dealing with an interface of Shopify API. Members of their team were also writing software for us. They worked with our staff on the backend to finish projects and write additional features for the software. On the frontend, their engineers worked with React and TypeScript.

We worked with two frontend developers and one backend developer.

The team was available to us full-time and went through our regular stand-up meetings and sprints. It almost felt like we had another engineer. We used Zoom and Google Meet for communication, and Jira and Shortcut for project management.

Clockwise Software provides development services for us. They work mostly with JavaScript, TypeScript, and OpenGL. They help with both back- and frontend development for desktop applications. We use a lot of restQL, which some of their developers are helping us to integrate into the frontend. They help create logic and build certain functions and architectures.
We’re currently working on some open-ended projects, including a system that integrates events and in-house events with the website. Another project is a system that is used to administrate user and company data. Another project is specific to universities. It’s a system that helps manage full staff and students.
We also have a school project. There are many schools mostly in Israel that are under our care in terms of staff and student management. We had this system for a couple of years and one of the challenges we had this year was a redesign of this desktop app. Two of the Clockwise Software developers helped us in moving parts of the app around, integrating new features such as better admin access and an easier way to add users and accounts into it. They used TypeScript and restQL for this project.

We currently work with three full-stack developers. Previously, we worked with two more developers on their team.

Since the project just went live, we don’t have any feedback from users yet. The success of their work was measured by their code review and their performance while working on it. Their developers are very competent. We’re very happy with the results.

Our teams use Asana to collaborate. Most of our communication is done through Asana or Slack. We make requests and make sure to explain them in a way the developers will understand what they need to do.
The Clockwise Software developers always help us achieve our goals. Communication is always very good and the deadlines were met most of the time. They’re very transparent. It was easy for us to plan ahead whenever there was a complicated task.

The developers at Clockwise Software have a very impressive tech understanding. They are very good with all the technologies they work with. Whenever they need to learn something new, it’s done quickly and effectively.

No, everything is good.
