What challenge were you trying to address with Cleveroad?
We had an idea and wanted to develop a website for the startup. We needed this website to be the public face of our firm and portray a high-tech image and sleek design. Since many people will judge our idea and future success of our website, it was extremely important to choose the right vendor.
We also had budget limitations, so we turned to the local development talent, which can provide great quality at reasonable prices.

What was the scope of their involvement?
Cleveroad developed our website. After a discussion with our technical manager, we decided that the stack would include Node.JS, MySQL for the database, and jQuery for the client side.
Cleveroad put together a technical team for us, including 2 developers, one project manager and one quality assurance [QA] tester. We included developers in our meetings, but most of the communication was done through the project manager. We also had some conversations with the QA tester.
One thing that I appreciated about Cleveroad was that no matter how our ideas changed, we could contact them anytime. Our project manager reacted quickly and handled communication with the rest of the team, who implemented our changes.

I am more than satisfied with our website. The best feedback comes from the number of users who have used it. We are seeing daily increases with the help of Cleveroad's team.
During the development stage, our QA tester identified some bugs, but there haven't been any issues with the site since it was launched.

We used scrum methodology for the work with Cleveroad. They submitted reports every 2 weeks and it was easy to assess the work. We had a time-and-materials contract, so we could determine what we were paying for. Cleveroad did make a total cost estimate at the beginning of the project, which they stuck to.

There are probably different systems in the US than in Ukraine. So I think Cleveroad did very well with getting to know the requirements that we had.

Please describe your organization.
We're not a big company, so we just made an application and are a startup. This application involves a social media network that is popular with Russian speakers in Russia and Ukraine. The aim of the application was to make searching for social groups very easy and organize groups.
What is your position?
I am one of the co-founders. It's a small startup.

They built an application for us. It's an Android application. It's a very popular app with various Russian speakers involving social media.

It was for an Android app.
How did you come to work with Cleveroad?
I found them a couple of years ago because they also are based in Ukraine and can work well with the Russian language.
Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?
For the Ukrainian market, it is in the average cost range. We received great value for the money because the application was highly functional with no major bugs.
What is the status of this engagement?
The application was launched about two years ago. We probably need to work with them again soon to get a new version developed for the latest Android system.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?
It was our only project with Cleveroad, but we are happy with our choice because it was a successful project. This project was highly successful because we profited a lot and still remain close friends with the Cleveroad team. I was happy to do a review for them because of the help they provided.
What distinguishes Cleveroad from other providers?
They really know Android and the Ukraine and Russian markets.
Is there anything Cleveroad could have improved or done differently?
It would have been better if they anticipated changes in the Android system more. So, probably, we will update the application for the new operating system. In general, everything is OK and we are happy.

We are making a social media app similar to FaceTime and Instagram. The market is going to be mostly the young adult and teenager market.

Of all the people that I interviewed on Elance, I believe Cleveroad has the most sufficient manpower and experience to get the job done. I do not know exactly how big of a firm they are, but compared to all the other people I interviewed, Cleveroad seemed most likely to be able to get the job done in the time I needed it done – within two to three months.
How did you come to work with Cleveroad?
We went on Elance and found Cleveroad to develop this app for us.
Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?
This project is in the $10,000 to $50,000 range.
What is the status of this engagement?
We are trying to launch this within the month. We started in June [2015], so it has been about two and a half months. We are now in the last week of development. They would have done it even more quickly, but I held it back because I had made some changes. But, every time I made a change, they would do a quick turnaround with it as well.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?
They keep sending the data on the development every week to show us their progress. We have meetings one to three times a week, depending on how often I want it. They are always prompt and on time.
So far, they have been right on par, and they have actually been doing more than what I have requested. For instance, they are looking out for me, looking out for the app, and making sure the user experience is strong. They generally raise concerns before I would even think about potential bugs or problems. They did very well with the app. We are on schedule. It is looking clean and crisp. I am glad I chose them. Manpower is very big to me to get things done with a quick turnaround time. There are no compromises in quality whatsoever. Right now, we are into the bug-testing phase. So far, everything is good, clean, and crisp, and it flows very nicely.
How did Cleveroad perform from a project management standpoint?
I am actually so satisfied with them that I agreed to reference them. I have dealt with different web developers for different things we were doing, and compared to the other people I have worked with, Cleveroad is precise. They actually have two project managers – one to watch over the developer project manager and the developers, and another person, who is a representative of the whole project that talks to me directly, and makes sure the whole development department is on track. Anything I requested, such as documentation and disclosure agreement, they promptly got it to me.
What distinguishes Cleveroad from other providers?
They are quick and their quality is excellent. That is the main thing I really wanted. A lot of other teams said it would take five or six months to get this project done. One thing I really wanted was a three-month turnaround, and they reassured me that it could be done in three months because they have the manpower and experience to do it. It is not a simple app, either.
For example, there is FaceTiming and a lot of live video feed. I was a little skeptical and worried, but they got it done exactly how I had envisioned it – even a little bit better. They are really on top of things. They go above and beyond. Cleveroad paid close attention to every detail. I did not expect them to be this good.
Is there anything Cleveroadcould have improved or done differently?
Not really. I sort of wished they were in the United States, but they are in the Ukraine, so there are the normal barriers that come with that. I have no communication problems with them, either, even though we are so far apart. Overall, I would not change anything between them and us.
