Rooted Objects is an online marketplace for sustainable luxury products. We bring together brands across apparel, beauty and home products. I'm one of the co-founders of the company.

We hired Aureate Labs to rewrite our entire front end with an updated design, using a headless PWA solution called Vue Storefront.

What were your goals for this project?

The most important goal here was to improve the performance of the website to allow users a seamless and extremely fast experience.

The previous version of the site had a regular Magento front and backend solution where we saw a lot of drop offs especially during checkout that was leading to a lot of loss in revenue. Solving this was our single most important goal.

I got in touch with the Vue Storefront team who put me in touch with Aureate Labs. After talking to their Founder, Piyush and reviewing their portfolio they seemed to be a good fit. Piyush was also very articulate and able to explain the capabilities and architecture of Vue Storefront well and was also very willing to address any concerns I had.

The project was to implement a Progressive Web Application (PWA) using the Vue Storefront framework with the existing Magento 2 backend. The work also included customisation and implementation of certain backend plugins to be compatible with Vue Storefront. Detailed designs were provided to them against which the frontend development had to be done.

The project team had 5 people including a project manager, business analyst, PWA developers and a tester.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The switch to the new website had some extremely clear indicators of success including a 44% increase in revenue, 150+% increase in conversion rates and an over 300% increase in checkout completions.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

The project had a dedicated project manager who was regularly providing updates on the project so that we were aware of progress as well as addressing issues that we raised during UAT and production bugs.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The team was very organised and all members including senior developers are very organised in how they report deployments and changes to the website. The key thing I would say is that they're an evolving company, and I've seen growth and improvement even over the short timespan that we engaged them.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Overall their execution of our requirements were great, if there's anything I'd say they need to improve on perhaps being able to read between the lines on what a client might be looking for. Another area is perhaps their QA process, while we did get to the end result we wanted, a better QA process could have gotten us there a bit faster.

Aureate is pretty structured in terms of project management. We started with an introductory call to explain our objectives and Aureate then detailed out the project plan, clearly conveying the deliverables and timeline for each phase. The business analyst from their team kicked-off with the audit of the Magento 2 website and prepared a blueprint for PWA implementation. Post that, the project manager took charge and development started. Throughout the development phase, there were daily progress updates and all milestones were completed as planned. I really liked the discipline and adherence to timelines because development agencies sometimes tend to delay projects mid-way but Aureate was very serious about sticking to the plan.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The PWA was indeed much faster than the website. In that sense, our primary objective was clearly fulfilled and correspondingly, the impact on the business was also positive, with an obvious increase in conversion rates and overall sales figures from the site.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

As mentioned earlier, project management was impeccable. We were using Jira for this project and weekly sprint plans were shared and adhered to. In some cases, we even received daily updates via IM, so that we knew that progress was being made. I think this discipline of regularly communicating the status to the client is very effective because it kept the timelines very tight. I didn't have any issues with them, ever.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They are a process-driven company, which is delightful to work with. More than that, they are indeed experts on PWA and Magento. You can throw any complicated business problem at them and they will be able to solve it with technology. At the time I’m writing this review, Aureate Labs is the only core VueStorefront PWA Core partner in APAC.

Nothing comes to mind, honestly. I'm really happy with their services.

While internal stakeholders were in charge of the customer experience designs, Aureate Labs performed the development and implementation services. They also helped with SEO and conversion rate optimization, and they collaborated with another vendor we hired. Also, for a couple of months after the launch, they helped us manage the client’s entire AWS infrastructure.

As a result of the platform, there are had smoother business processes, which has helped increase customer satisfaction. New customer acquisition has increased to 40%, and retention has increased to roughly 35%. Apart from that, the local business is now global, which differentiates it from competitors.

They used different digital tools for collaboration. For project management software, they used Jira, which provided updates regarding ongoing tasks. The project manager also used Jira to assign tasks to developers. We were also able to track the ongoing costs that were considered most critical for high-value projects. 

We communicated with the project manager through email and Skype. They have fantastic communication and project management skills. The entire team was very fast to respond to stakeholders.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Aureate Labs has a well-structured working style, and they plan and estimate everything accurately. There were situations when the planned hours were stretched just to complete the assigned requirements. The team is so passionate; they were always eager to understand us and serve us with great results.

Are there any areas for improvement?

There isn’t much to say here except that they could add on project risk management with timelines. I highly recommend Aureate Labs as an e-commerce developer and solution provider. We have been satisfied with their services so far.

We first sent them a document outlining what we needed and what we wanted to change. They always explained the differences and why they used certain technologies. Aureate Labs fixed our Magento 2 site that had many problems. Their team first did a full UI Audit and scoped out all of the site’s issues. For example, there were a lot of issues around the marketplace functionality & UI.

Then, Aureate Labs fixed all the existing bugs, including the issues with our systems. They got into the marketplace plug-in and rewrote its logic too. Then, their team started building out new functionalities. They worked with different modules that they also customized. They modernize UI/UX of the current website and as well needed to implement the Shipping module. Their team's still moving the product forward

The services they provide are tremendous and quick. They promptly understand my requirement and the problems which we are facing in our eCommerce stores and immediately provide the best suitable solution. The UX and performance of web store was improved and due to that, we have nearly tripled our conversion rate.

Also, We were fascinated by their availability as they were super responsive despite the differences in time zone and have a lot of technical knowledge. Whatever we asked them to implement, they were able to do. I told them exactly how I wanted the payment module and they did it. We are happy with them.

The overall management of the project carried out by the team was excellent and they use JIRA PMS system through which anytime I have quick glance of project work and activities. Communication and support by each project team members are up-to the mark.

I am very happy for their on-time delivery and seamless effectively doing internal and external communication. They have a can-do attitude and are super responsive. I can send them a Skype message any time of the day or night and they’ll be on it. We use email, Google Meets, and ActiveCollab to communicate.

Their responsiveness is their most impressive quality. They’re really on it. Other people complain about agencies burying their projects into the mix but that doesn’t happen with Aureate Labs. Their team always responds to us and makes requests happen then and there.
