BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I'm a marketing expert in the entertainment music space.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with The Alfam?
I'm in the process of revamping my whole portfolio because I'm transitioning from a marketing job in the manufacturing tech space into the entertainment music space. I have a lot of experience in the entertainment music space and have done a lot of projects in 10 years.
Therefore, for this project, I wanted to take all my biggest accomplishments, projects, and activities and use them to create an experiential website that served as a visual extension of my resume. I reached out to The Alfam to help me design a website where I could showcase my creative approach, my marketing skill set, and the projects that I've done.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
The Alfam has designed and developed a new website for me from scratch on WordPress. When this project started, I already had a website that I had built on Wix, but nothing on that website besides the domain was used. We started off with a call so that their team could better understand my needs, what I was looking for, who my target audience was, and how the website would be used.
After that, we also talked about the website's flow and feel and worked together to understand the brand ethos, the copy, the visuals, and the branding. The branding portion also included defining the color palette and the website's layout. Once we defined all those elements, we identified all the pages the website needed one by one, which I found to be very helpful.
We've already launched the website, but we're now working on some updates. The team also offers marketing and SEO services, but I haven't acquired those yet. Still, they've ensured that the site has SEO-enriched copywriting content. Fortunately, I had a lot of my content ready, so I've done a lot of the copy myself.
Something I've really liked about The Alfam has been that, after launching the website, they've given it a couple of weeks to see the feedback and make any adjustments needed. Part of their services is providing website maintenance through a monthly retainer. Although we haven't gotten there yet, I'm looking forward to it so that they can manage updates, bug fixes, and quick changes. The team has also taught us how to manage the website, which is fairly simple.
What is the team composition?
I've been in contact with three teammates from The Alfam, but I'm not sure how many others are working on the project. I know that several teammates are involved. Their team includes the founder, a project manager, some web developers, and a marketing copywriter. Moreover, I know that they have well-equipped teams for marketing campaigns, but I've mostly been in contact with teammates on the web development side.
How did you come to work with The Alfam?
I found them through a referral. I had seen the work that The Alfam had done on two other projects for two of my friends — one had a consulting company, and the other had an agency — and I really loved it. When I asked who had done their websites, they connected me with The Alfam.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent around $11,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
Our initial conversations happened in February 2024. By the end of February 2024, we were already having weekly calls. Although the website has been launched, our engagement is ongoing. I'll keep them on a maintenance retainer moving forward.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The Alfam has delivered a very professional and high-end website. I'm creative myself, so I have a very defined idea of what I want. Every single detail on the site has to have a point, a purpose, and a flow. The Alfam has understood the breakdown of what I've envisioned and how I want to showcase my work.
Thanks to that understanding, they've taken my ideas and implemented them into the site, adding elements that I didn't know were available to amplify my vision. This has been great.
When we ran the beta version of the site, we had an issue with a video component. Still, The Alfam came up with a solution immediately. Overall, whenever there's been an issue or whenever I've asked for something that can be done the way I want, they always have a solution, which is important to highlight.
Whenever The Alfam provides me with a solution, they also help me understand why their solution adds value to my idea so that I'm confident with the decision and the progress.
How did The Alfam perform from a project management standpoint?
The Alfam has delivered the project on time and within budget. Throughout the project, I've made a lot of last-minute directional changes. When comparing where I initially thought the project was going to where it ended up going, we've had to reshape the whole layout. Still, we've only experienced a delay of one day. I expected a bigger delay, but the change requests haven't affected the timeline as much.
In my current role, I manage the developers who manage our website, so I already have an idea of how much work goes into developing a website. Still, creating a website for myself has been very different. It has been great seeing how The Alfam has been so supportive, hands-on, on-point, and consistent.
We set up calls every week, including a standing call to follow up on action plans and discuss accomplishments and next week's work. We also communicate throughout the week as the project progresses. Overall, our communication is very streamlined, which I really appreciate. As for communication tools, we use email, phone, and Zoom. I don't know if they use project management tools internally.
What did you find most impressive about them?
I would like to congratulate The Alfam's whole team. They've been very good at communicating and updating each other so that their service is uniform. Anytime I talk to a specific teammate, they're already up to date, so I've never had to repeat myself. They're always aware of the conversations that we've had, and overall, they're a very strong team.
The Alfam's ability to understand their clients' needs is impressive. They make it very easy for clients not to feel overwhelmed. In development projects, understanding why things can and can't be done is a bit stressful because clients can request things without knowing the actual capabilities. However, The Alfam has made it very easy to understand the backend process in a way that makes me feel engaged.
The team has kept me in the loop and helped me understand. This approach has given me the confidence that every decision I've made has been accompanied by the right support.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I can't think of anything The Alfam could improve on. I tend to shy away from companies that try to upsell, but I've never felt that with The Alfam. The engagement has been very organic and natural, so they usually offer things when I ask. They've also shown me how what I ask for would look like before implementing it, so I've never had to commit to anything I'm not confident with. Overall, working with them has been very easy.
Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?
Be as involved as possible, be present in the process, and be open to having your ideas amplified because they're the experts. There might be some tools and functionalities you don't know exist that could make your idea even better than imagined. Therefore, it's best to go into the project with a list of your requirements but be open to changing or amplifying that list along the way.
