Our client asked us to design them a logo for their new business division. This logo would be used in video and TV advertisements. We designed the static logo and 87th St Creative animated the logo for us.

We would meet to review rough animation concepts that would then be iterated upon to get us our final product.

We worked primarily through email and virtual meetings since we were on opposite coasts. Sherene was quick to respond to emails and always had our next iteration ready to review on schedule (if not sooner).

One animated logo to animate in and out, in two colors variations (teal/red/white on a white background and teal/white/red on a black ground) and in two locations (centered and left-aligned along the middle of the face) up to :10 of the Swell Partners logo. Final deliverables were looping GIF, an mp4 and an mov with a transparent background, animating in and out. Total deliverable was 12 files.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The team completed all deliverables in a timely fashion. Our new animated logos will enrich our media and digital content on an on-going and long-term basis. We couldn't be happier!

The team was communicative as the project went on and gave updated completion date estimates as edits were requested. They responded very quickly to my questions and suggestions.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Sherene from 87th Street Creative was very willing to work collaboratively and understand the vibe we were shooting for in our animated logo. The introduction call, contract execution, and ongoing communication were all very easy and never over-complicated.

Are there any areas for improvement or something 87th Street Creative could have done differently?

Overall, the project went very smoothly. It wasn't until after the project was complete that I found out the .mov (transparent files) were alpha-channel coded and would require video editing software that supported this format. That said, Sherene was extremely quick to first help troubleshoot and ultimately help me figure out which software I could use. It wound up being a very easy solution, I just think it would be best to make this known in advance.

What challenge were you trying to address with 87th Street Creative?

I work mostly in creating and designing simulations. We were designing a simulation for training purposes. As part of the simulation, the client required a short video that introduced the students to the simulation experience. They also wanted that video to create some excitement for what they were about to do. Thus, we hired 87th Street Creative to help us with the production process.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

87th Street Creative helped us produce an animated video for our client. Initially, we provided them with a one-minute script. Then, they developed the storyboard and provided us with a 10-second preview of the video to ensure that the look and feel was to our client’s liking.

Once we got the preview approved, 87th Street Creative produced the full video, and we provided feedback along the way. Their team also added background music to the video and recommended voiceover actors. The final video was one-minute long.

I was a friend of the owner back when she was a music composer. Several years ago, I found out that she was also a graphic designer, so I worked with her to help me design a board game. She did such a great job that I kept working with her on other projects.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The client was very pleased with the video delivered by 87th Street Creative, as it was easily downloadable and viewable. Around 400 participants viewed this video, and we received very positive feedback about it being concise and getting our message across very effectively.

How did 87th Street Creative perform from a project management standpoint?

87th Street Creative was very good at delivering ahead of time. They delivered assets very quickly, allowing us to provide feedback and improve the outcome without delaying the project. We communicated via Zoom, email, text, and phone. One time, we had a joint call with them and the end client.

What did you find most impressive about them?

87th Street Creative’s ability to deliver assets quickly so that the client can provide feedback is their biggest strength. In comparison, other designers don’t talk to their clients for weeks and expect the outcome to be perfect when delivered. However, thanks to 87th Street Creative’s iterative approach, we were able to have a much better product than expected. They beat their deadlines, giving us enough time to ensure everyone was aligned.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It would have been great if 87th Street Creative had a dedicated place for the assets to be.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be adaptable and provide feedback — that’s the best mindset you can use to approach the project. 87th Street Creative thrives with feedback and doesn’t take it personally. They rather receive constructive feedback than redo an almost complete project. Thus, it’s best to provide feedback early and often.

It’s better to provide design recommendations upfront, including visual tools like fonts and colors, so that they can work around your expectations and requirements. Overall, they’re a great firm to work with if you’ve never done this kind of project before.

The scope of this project was not immense, and I think that is because how simple 87th Street Creative made the process. From beginning to end, it was smooth sailing as we met with Sherene, to discuss our objectives and design ideas. She came back with multiple versions of our project, and additionally had notes on the differences between each project so that we were able to discern what made the most sense.

The deliverables were favorably received and are working on national integration.

That it just "worked." There wasn't a lot of back-and-forth, there wasn't any confusion. It functioned exactly as it should, as it allowed me to continue on with my day and not have to be involved in the minutia.
