BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the ecosystem development lead for Nimiq, a technology project developing our own blockchain and cryptocurrency. Everything Nimiq does revolves around payments, and cryptocurrency for payments only becomes useful when you can actually use it somewhere for payments. In my role, I’m in charge of the organization’s real-world usage.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Overnice?

We needed help with UI/UX design, branding, and web and mobile app design.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Overnice has been part of our project from the very beginning. They’re the design, UI/UX, and branding backbone of the project. They’ve created all our products, user interactions, and the whole UX. They’ve also developed websites, a mobile app, logos, and marketing materials. Basically, Overnice has been our design partner from the very beginning.

One of the latest projects we’ve worked on is an initiative founded by our project. It’s called Crypto City, and Overnice has been tasked to develop a logo and branding that’s very close to Nimiq but still very independent. There are clear connections between the two logos, but they also appear as something completely new.

We usually collaborate on Figma. Overnice works with a lot of tech projects, and Figma goes hand in hand with designers and technical implementation.

What is the team composition?

I’ve been working with them for a long time, so I’m basically working with almost everyone on the team. We have Nastia as our central point for project management, and we have Julian, one of the managing directors, in charge of everything regarding branding and design. We also work with Tammo, another managing director who takes care of everything regarding UI/UX. Additionally, I work with the designers, and we also have a developer on the team.

How did you come to work with Overnice?

We found them through a personal connection. I don’t know how the project got to know Overnice, but I think it was a referral from friends.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in August 2018, and the partnership is still ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Overnice has absolutely nailed the logo and branding. They’ve come up with genius branding and a very nice logo that’s deeply attached to our project and what we’re doing. It has a very deep meaning that’s connected with our real-world mission and the goals of the initiative.

Internally, success is the execution from the idea phase to the product’s existence. We’ve designed at least four different websites, one mobile app, and two other standalone web products. We’ve done tons of little things in between. In total, we’ve executed at least 10 big projects from the idea phase to the rollout of the products. Some of them have been really big and have taken over a year to design and implement.

The qualitative user feedback is that people love our products and the whole branding of our ecosystem, which is Overnice’s work. We receive very positive feedback from our community. Overall, everyone at Overnice has done a great job. When they're together, they create excellence.

How did Overnice perform from a project management standpoint?

Their on-time delivery is flexible. If the projects are crystal clear, Overnice always delivers on time. If the client messes the process up, they’ll still deliver on time. If I tell them I need something by a specific date, it’s there by that date. They have a very good project manager.

We only use Slack as a communication channel. I usually tell them what I need and when I need it. I’m not involved in their project management at all. I’m just a demanding client.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their love, passion, and professionalism are impressive. Their love for details in product design is outstanding. They’re all incredibly skilled people. Some of them are artists, but they all know their craftsmanship. We can truly feel their passion and love for their work throughout everything they do. They've explained that their name comes from the fact that, when they do something, they want to do it overly nicely. Their name truly represents their mindset when it comes to their passion for their work.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Sometimes, it feels that they’re overly analytical. They always try to drill down to the root cause and how things go together.However, I always come back to them after a few weeks and thank them for asking all the questions in the beginning because it ensures that everything is nice and coherent.. Overall, there's nothing I would have them improve; I enjoy working with them very much. If anything, they're expensive.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Overnice loves what they do, and they’re super professional, but it has its price. If you want quality, you won’t get it for cheap. It’s completely fair. If you want the job done nicely and everything to look fine, it comes with a price tag.
