I am the CEO of  BWise, a mobile payments company specializing in providing services for SMEs.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenges were you trying to address with Bayteq?

We’ve been working with them for a while on different projects, and the most recent one is for the development of a super app, under the one-stop-shop concept to integrate all of our services into a single app. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

It’s the development of a mobile app both for Android and iOS. This app allows our users to access our digital products such as cellphone credit recharges, payments of prepaid satellite TV, receive payment for basic services, process digital payments, and take part in value chains with other leading companies, among many other services.

What was the team composition?

We work with an architect and specialized developers for each of the environments in the development — we also have Android specialized developers and a certification expert. In total, I believe we work with 10–15 people. 

How did you come to work with Bayteq?

I’ve known their CEO for a long time. He was in charge of a development project at another company I worked for in the past, so I know the quality of his work. He doesn’t only have a great human quality, but he has great skills, professionalism, and creativity — I’ve always felt that I can trust his work.

How much have you invested in them?

We’ve invested about half a million dollars.

What is the status of this engagement?

In this most recent project, we’ve been working with them for about a year and a half. We started the development in the first quarter of 2020, and we’re about to launch the app in August this year. They will continue to provide us with support during all the launches in different countries throughout the year.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They have a very detailed follow-up of the projects, so it’s always very easy to know how the project is moving forward and performing. All the requirements are delivered on time so in terms of planning, they’ve been great. Another success measure we have is testing. The apps are in a very complex system, so it’s necessary to have great coordination of all elements. 

They’ve been able to do that while performing great testing processes, and that allowed us to be certain of the quality of the application. Very rarely do we have any change requests, as their work is already of great quality and they deliver what they promise. They also have great detail for the UX and they’re committed to it, so the apps end up having an excellent user interface. 

How did Bayteq perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management and communications are great. They have very technical, but very precise communication methods — there is not a time when we don’t know about the processes of the project. They’re also very agile at solving any issues that might come up, and they’re also very resourceful, so they always find a way to meet all expectations in terms of time and technical needs.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They take all projects as their own, so they really commit and work with passion. They also have great personnel as we’ve never had the need to ask for them to change a developer due to expectations not being met. All of them have very high skill levels, so their recruitment is great — plus the quality of their development is outstanding.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could improve the budgeting of activities. They always make sure that all details are covered, although that sometimes translates into them working more than the hours that we originally planned — and that makes the budget go up.

I am the VP of technology at a healthcare solutions company based in Ecuador.

What challenges were you trying to address with Bayteq?

A few years ago, the company decided to, as part of its business plan, create a strategy to provide a better user experience for its final clients. As part of this strategy, the company decided to start offering services via digital channels.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

With Bayteq, we built some mobile and web apps that would allow our clients to make appointments, to explore the features of their insurance plans, among other data. The team built both an iOS and Android version of the platform.

What is the team composition?

Generally, there was a project manager, an architect, UX designers, two or three senior developers, and someone in charge of testing.

How did you come to work with Bayteq?

I knew of their work for more than 15 years, I worked with them before in previous positions. When this project came up we had a RFP and they were included among other companies. We went with them because of our previous collaborations and because they had the best references and prices.

How much have you invested in them?

We have invested bout $800,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our ongoing engagement with Bayteq began in May 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Providing our clients with these digital channels has been very important as a business strategy, it has increased our value offer. Nowadays about 70% of the appointments are made via our digital channels, which shows us how valuable this has proven to be for our clients. 

How did Bayteq perform from a project management standpoint?

They always had a project manager in charge of the project, however, the updates of the project and communications around it could improve. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They have a tech team of all levels, they have architects, designers, developers, etc,. The entire team is skilled and performs to a high level, they're a very professional company.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I would have liked to have closer communication with them.
