Vortex.Video was hired to edit and enhance more than 400 educational videos for a comprehensive UX research course consisting of 14 modules. Their tasks included video editing, adding transitions and annotations, and ensuring each video was engaging and professional.

The team edited 14-module course that contained more than 400 videos. There was mostly only 1 round of revisions which is great! There were 6 editors involved in the process, 1 team lead and 1 project manager.

There were two people involved in communication with me during the onboarding process (by the way, they provided a free sample for me before I paid for their work!), and from then on there has been one consistent and very responsive project manager assigned, although I know that they also have Team Lead for quality assurance and multiple video editors to keep the process fast and consistent.

They were open to my feedback, always took it seriously and made sure I was pleased with the outcome. They always kept me posted on the delivering process and time spent, so I was up-to-date with how much each video cost.

Having about 2 Tb of footage I wasn’t sure how I would give all of this to the editor, but the Vortex.Video team kindly provided me with access to their Dropbox storage so all I had to do was upload the videos there and that’s it! I didn’t have to worry about anything after that.

 I know it's a bit of a challenge to make estimates on delivering a module where the total length and complexity of each video is unclear. They were always giving me longer deadlines and they always delivered earlier. I just wish they were a bit more courageous to tell me shorter deadlines, but I get it: "It's better to underpromise and overdeliver" :)

Each week the team is sent raw interview footage and asked to assemble a polished podcast with an opening clip pulled, title sequence, chapter headings and outro/CTA - as well as basic cuts like trimming the fat, closing long pauses, stumbles etc. They also receive instruction to extract a short 5-minute version of each episode with alternative intro/outro. 

After this task is complete, they receive a list of short clips (usually 7-10 clips) to pull from the episode for social. For these clips they reformat for vertical placement, add kinetic subtitles and polish.

I'm very happy with the work they produce on a weekly basis. The team is fast and concise and communicates well about creative choices and notes.

The team's project management is top-tier. The PM, Tania is so communicative and on top of messages, notes, changes etc. I will admit I tend to throw a lot at them such as extra projects and last-minute requests in addition to our usual cadence of podcast episodes. Responses come quickly and everything is always accounted for and delivered on time if not ahead of time in some instances.

It is very easy to feel aligned with them creatively even though we are working in a remote setting and mostly typing to each other. What is unique about this team is their precision, communication, and speed. 

The quality of the work speaks for itself and I never feel as though I have to belabor a point or give the same note twice.

I'm an executive of a YouTube channel called Hollywood Guns.

What challenge were you trying to address with VORTEX.video?

I needed help with video editing for my YouTube channel. I run a large company here in the US, and one of my hobbies is collecting firearms that have appeared in famous movies and TV shows. I wanted to learn something new in business and entertainment that I'd never done before, so I decided to make a YouTube channel. That required learning a lot of skills for filmmaking, editing, and online business, none of which I had.

I looked to see what I could effectively outsource in that filmmaking process. One of the things I wanted to outsource was editing because it has a very high learning curve and requires a lot of creative ability that I don't have and probably can't get. I needed to turn my ideas into cohesive and professional videos.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

VORTEX.video edits the videos I produce on my YouTube channel. I provide them with my A-roll and B-roll footage and a basic timeline in Adobe Premier Pro, and they edit that into a finished video ready to upload. So far, they've edited 10 videos, each 20 minutes in length. Additionally, the team has also animated the channel's opening and closing title credits and created my logo and other items.

When I review a movie, I grade three or four key aspects and firearms within it, and VORTEX.video has built a grading scale for those aspects. Therefore, when I score each category, the grading appears on the screen over the A-roll. 

What is the team composition?

I have mainly worked with Dennis, the project manager, and Anton, the creative director. I'm unsure if they have only one person editing my videos, but they have 17 editors.

How did you come to work with VORTEX.video?

I looked around the world on Fiverr and other outsourcing agencies for editing and design services and came up with a shortlist of companies with good ratings. However, I wasn't finding the vendors I wanted on Fiverr. One of the tools I use to polish my scripts is ChatGPT, so I input the companies I was considering at the time and asked if there were any others. ChatGPT recommended VORTEX.video. I saw several companies, visited their websites, reviewed their previous work, and interviewed a few. 

The primary reason I chose VORTEX.video is their language skills and understanding of my videos' cultural context. When producing videos, my service provider needed to listen to what I said on camera and ensure they didn't cut me off or cut words that affected the viewing experience. I'm English and live in the US. I spoke to agencies around the world that spoke good English but struggled to understand the cultural context of my videos. 

I tried with a couple of other agencies and couldn't get them to grasp what I was saying, and there were concepts lost in translation. VORTEX.video is located in Ukraine; they can speak and understand English and understand the cultural concepts I need as well as I can, if not better, sometimes. Since people learn British English at school in Ukraine, VORTEX.video understood the cultural mentality, so I saw no downsides in working with them. I felt confident I wouldn't spend ages trying to get them to understand what I was trying to communicate.

Additionally, I was looking for a provider who could work with Adobe Premiere Pro. During the interview process, I provided each of my four shortlisted companies with one of my rought drafts to produce a sample for me. I wanted them to show me what they would take from my A-roll and B-roll to help tell my story better. VORTEX.video added a B-roll in a way that enhanced the story. 

For example, in the sample video, I was trying to explain how a firearm I was reviewing had laser etching on it. In the video the team gave back to me, they added a video that they had found from a manufacturer that specializes in laser etching on metal surfaces, pushing that up as a B-roll while my voice still sounded, showing the audience what laser etching is. VORTEX.video also did that with other aspects of the video, adding assets like video, pictures, and sound effects while I was speaking to accentuate the story.   

How much have you invested with them?

I've spent around $1,500.

What is the status of this engagement?

I started working with them in August 2024, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I worked for years on the concepts and processes of my videos, and I launched the YouTube channel on October 2nd. Less than two months later, I have 10 videos launched with over 600,000 views. My channel has over 16,000 subscribers and 80,000 watch hours globally.

I'm a very big fan of the VORTEX.video team. I don't think I could have done it without them producing my videos the way they have, both in how good they are as an editing company and in the additional assets they've added to my videos. They apply some effects to my videos that make them look better than the raw footage and know where to cut dead spaces. 

Initially, I argued with them about how they sped up the cadence of my voice ever so slightly and took out many of my pregnant pauses when I spoke. They cleaned up that audio; I know Adobe Premiere Pro can do all this. However, they ultimately made me sound more authoritative and professional. 

At this point, I have received up to 3,000 comments on my channel, and many of them have said that I have a high production value. A lot of that is down to VORTEX.video and how they've edited my videos together and made me appear as more than just one person working in the evenings when the kids have gone to bed.

Being a new YouTuber, the bar is quite high; I have to produce unique content from an AV perspective. There's no way that I could produce something of the standard that I've been putting out on my channel without a really good agency partner. My comments gush about VORTEX.video's work, and my channel is growing quickly; around 25,000 people watch it daily.  

Moreover, large channels that have been around for a decade have reached out to me and treated me as part of their creator community. VORTEX.video has enabled me to punch beyond my weight. 

How did VORTEX.video perform from a project management standpoint?

I've scheduled to give them a video a week. At the beginning of the week, I give them a rough timeline, and they give me back an edit by Thursday or Friday. At first, it took four or five back-and-forths to get the videos right, but now I've had a couple of videos where the first edit they've returned to me has been perfect. 

VORTEX.video sends me the videos through Dropbox. I click on it and open Dropbox Replay, where I can add comments all the way through the video's timeline and drop additional assets. The system isn't that great because it's very laggy, but that's not on VORTEX.video; the system is probably quite new and needs to work out some kinks, but we've made it work. 

We've met over Zoom a few times, but we email each other daily. The team works in US time, for the most part, so there are no complaints regarding that.

What did you find most impressive about them?

No matter which VORTEX.video teammate is editing the video, they are fantastic and very talented. I wouldn't change service providers now; they're an excellent partner and my team. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don't think they can do anything better at this point. I'm completely enamored with them and blown away by their excellent capabilities. We haven't had a chance to sit down and talk strategically, so when I have time to come up for air, we can discuss changes to the graphics, like creating other animations like the grading scale. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

VORTEX.video engages their clients with an in-person meeting over Zoom. While they'll probably offer it anyway, ask them to produce a sample for you, and that will tell you everything you need to know. A lot of other providers offered us a free sample and never followed up or took 1–2 weeks to produce it. 

With VORTEX.video, I met with them, sent them some assets, went to bed, and woke up with the sample video there. The VORTEX.video team is hungry — it's fantastic. I also recommend getting to know them, as they're really down-to-earth and very knowledgeable.

Vortex.Video is absolutely phenomenal to work with. They are top-notch video editors and will easily make any recommended changes you have. 

What I love more than anything you can just give them a broad outline of what you are looking for and they will do an incredible job versus other editors you need to be super super specific and hope that they get close to a decent video. If you are looking for the best, stop looking because you found them. I will definitely be using them for a lot more future projects.
