TomBuildsApps designed and developed an MVP for a software company. The team worked on the UI, user flows, backend logic, data handling, and permissions logic.
TomBuildsApps delivered a production-ready MVP in under four weeks, helping the client save approximately 68 weeks of development time. The team provided clear and structured project management and was very hands-on. They communicated consistently and effectively tracked progress.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the CEO of a software company that provides an operating system for the food industry.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What specific goals or objectives did you hire TomBuildsApps to accomplish for Platter?
We hired TomBuildsApps to build our MVP for a product feature. This was a specific marketplace add-on to our current system.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
TomBuildsApps was brought in to design and build a specific MVP feature to extend our existing platform. The scope covered product scoping, UX decisions, and full development of a standalone feature that integrated cleanly into our current system. The main deliverable was a working MVP delivered in under four weeks, including core functionality, edge case handling, and a build that was production-ready rather than a throwaway prototype.
Specifically, TomBuildsApps handled the UI and user flows, backend logic, core workflows, data handling, and permissions logic. They ensured it aligned with our existing architecture and delivered something that was stable and usable by real users. The focus was on functionality first, but with enough attention to UX that it could be tested properly and iterated on immediately.
What is the team composition?
We worked with 2–5 teammates from TomBuildsApps.
How did you come to work with TomBuildsApps?
We found TomBuildsApps through a referral. We chose them over other options because they had high ratings, their pricing fit our budget, and they offered good value for the cost.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent less than $10,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked together from September–November 2025.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The most immediate measurable outcome was speed. We went from concept to a working MVP feature in under four weeks, which materially accelerated our product roadmap. Because the feature was delivered in a production-ready state, we were able to put it in front of real users straight away, gather feedback, and iterate without rework. That reduced development risk and avoided the usual delays that come with rebuilding early prototypes.
From a business perspective, the feature unlocked a new capability within the platform that we could demo confidently to customers and investors, helping move conversations forward faster. It also validated that we could extend our system quickly without disrupting existing functionality, which was critical for our growth. Overall, the project saved months of internal development time and allowed us to progress faster with significantly less risk.
The clearest metric was time to delivery. The MVP feature was designed, built, and deployed in under four weeks, compared to our typical internal estimate of two to three months for a similar piece of work. From an operational point of view, this saved us approximately 6–8 weeks of development time and allowed us to progress customer and investor conversations earlier than planned.
Within the first few weeks of release, the feature was actively used in live demos and early customer trials, with positive qualitative feedback around usability and clarity. Because it was production-ready from day one, we were able to test with real data rather than mock scenarios, which significantly increased confidence in the feature. While it was an MVP, the outcome was tangible.
It accelerated adoption discussions, reduced delivery risk, and proved we could extend the platform quickly and reliably. At this stage, we didn’t track deep quantitative engagement metrics such as sessions or usage frequency, as the feature was released as an MVP to a controlled group rather than a full public rollout. However, we did track adoption qualitatively through active usage in live demos and early customer trials.
The feature was used consistently in sales and onboarding conversations, and we saw immediate pull from prospective customers who wanted to understand how it would work within their own workflows. The key success metric for us was usability and readiness.
The fact that the feature could be used confidently with real data, without support or explanation, validated adoption potential and allowed us to move quickly into iteration and expansion planning. As the feature progresses beyond MVP, we’re now in a position to layer in more formal usage tracking and performance metrics.
How did TomBuildsApps perform from a project management standpoint?
TomBuildsApps’ project management was clear, structured, and very hands-on. The scope and milestones were defined early, communication was consistent throughout, and progress was easy to track without heavy process or overhead. Any questions or trade-offs were surfaced quickly, which helped avoid delays or misunderstandings.Overall, it felt collaborative and efficient rather than rigid, with a strong focus on delivery and outcomes.
What did you find most impressive about them?
What stood out was their speed without sacrificing quality and their strong understanding of how to build something that fits into a wider product rather than existing in isolation. TomBuildsApps didn’t just execute a brief; they took time to understand how the feature needed to fit into our wider platform and challenged assumptions where it mattered. That meant decisions were made with long-term impact in mind, not just short-term delivery.
The pace was genuinely impressive. Delivering a production-ready MVP in under four weeks without cutting corners was rare. Communication was clear, expectations were well-managed, and there was a strong sense of ownership throughout. Overall, it felt less like working with an external contractor and more like adding a trusted product builder to the team for a period of time.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Overall, there was very little we would change about the engagement. If anything, the only area for improvement would be around earlier documentation of certain technical decisions, simply to make the handover even smoother as the feature moved fully in-house. That said, this was a minor point and didn’t impact delivery, quality, or timelines.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
The project ran smoothly, communication was clear, and expectations were well-managed throughout. We’d happily work with TomBuildsApps again on future builds.
