Introduce your business and what you do there.
We are a local charity that has run a local Payments for Ecosystem Services scheme (the Westcountry Angling Passport) for 20 years. This was desperately in need of updating, and brining to a wider audience.

What challenge were you trying to address with Thumbmunkeys Ltd?
We had a paper based scheme that was very expensive to run, and required a lot of miles driven to administer. We had previously appointed another developer, but had issues with resulting app.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Full involvement in development of the app. We had the basic concept, but needed a lot of support and technical expertise to make it work.

The contract is now complete.

How did your relationship with the vendor evolve?
Multiple stages of development, with both incremental and significant changes to the project scope. Good communication, a free and open pathway to resolve the issues, bugs and unforeseen elements that cropped up.
In what ways can they improve?
We were very happy with the end result, it exceeded our initial expectations, and so do not have any suggestions in this regard.
What advice do you have for clients with similar needs to yours?
Think things through, take your time, and if you can, keep things simple.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the former angling development officer for a charitable trust that looks after the rivers in Cornwall, Somerset, and Dorset in the United Kingdom. We also run a payment for ecosystem services scheme, which enables farmers to sell fishing through a token system.

What challenge were you trying to address with Thumbmunkeys Ltd?
They were to update an MVP that was created by a different company.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Their team was involved with fixing bugs and making the code more robust. Particularly, they focused on adding UI/UX components that would help older users. They also added some new features to broaden the market. Primarily, they were responsible for increasing the stability of transactions and decreasing general page load speed. They used Xamarin to complete the work.
What is the team composition?
From memory, there were about five people assigned to the work. I collaborated primarily with a project manager.
How did you come to work with Thumbmunkeys Ltd?
We put out an invitation to tender through the UK government’s contract fund.
What is the status of this engagement?
The project started in October 2019, and the scope of work was completed in December 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
While the app is new to the marketplace, it generally runs faster than it did before. The few transactions we’ve facilitated so far have been faultless.
How did Thumbmunkeys Ltd perform from a project management standpoint?
They performed and communicated well over Skype.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They used visual DevOps and provided me with a client login. With that, I could track the completion of each sprint. Throughout the engagement, I knew where we stood with progress toward our goals. That was fairly unique and helpful.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, I don’t have anything for them to improve upon. Their responses were pretty technical in terms of jargon, but that’s likely because they knew that I’m a technical person.
