The goal was to bring clarity to Western Group’s (now SSA Marine) network of companies while capturing and honoring its 75-year heritage. The video unified the organization’s story, providing a clear understanding of its structure and legacy.

From the Statement of Work:

LOGO AUGMENTATION FOR 75TH ANNIVERSARY:
4.1.1. Design Workshop. An Agency-facilitated workshop that explores the following:
● SBUs. What design considerations need to be made when designing
for The Client's various divisions and business units?
● Goals. What is The Client trying to communicate through its
anniversary logo?
● Design Constraints. What are the design constraints we're working
within?
● Inspiration. The Agency to present inspiration examples to prompt
conversation around the following:
● What are the pros and cons of each design? For each example, how do
the elements
○ What do you like vs not like?
○ What elements and design 'levers' can we use to achieve your
brand's design goals?
4.1.2. Logo Design. Finalized logo may consist of an icon or a wordmark and/or
customized typeface. Logo rounds and revisions as follows:
● Round 1: 2-3 concepts for logo design
● Round 2: Two shortlisted directions, with one round of revisions
● Round 3: One final logo direction remaining
● Round 4: Final spacing and adjustments to perfect the logo
● Sign-off.
Deliverable/Artifact. Figma file and/or PDF export of the logo. Note,
this will be delivered after sign-off of the visual design system.

4.2. VIDEO FOR 75TH ANNIVERSARY:
4.2.1. PRE-PRODUCTION.
4.2.1.1. Third Party Footage Cataloging. Reviewing and leveraging the
client's third-party footage.
4.2.1.2. Storyfinding. Lead creative strategists review existing content and
then work with The Client to develop the story idea.
4.2.1.3. Storyboarding + Shot List Creation. Creative Director, Art Director
and Lead Content Producer will draft the storyboard based on the
concept direction. A shot list will be created from this story board
and become the roadmap for the video.
*Storyboard / shot list / interview questions must be signed-off before
beginning the next phase.
4.2.1.4. Scriptwriting. The Agency’s copywriters will create a script to be
read by the selected VO artist. Estimate includes (but is not limited to) up-to 3 rounds of revisions.
*Additional revisions can be requested at The Agency’s hourly rate.
4.2.1.5. VO Sourcing + Talent Management. Sourcing of the video’s
voice-over (VO) artist. Estimate accounts for between 3-5 artist
options (low-3, high-5)
*Additional revisions can be requested at The Agency’s hourly rate.
4.2.1.6. Interview Preparation. Reviewing and leveraging the client's
third-party footage.
4.2.2. PRODUCTION:
4.2.2.1. Interview Filming. Includes gear prep, on location set-up, interview
filming, take down + travel to and from filming location.
*1X Half-day shoot (1 videographer, 1 assistant on set)
4.2.2.2. B-Roll Filming. Includes gear prep, on location set-up, b-roll filming,
take down + travel to and from filming location.
3X half-day shoots
○ Lower Mainland
○ Squamish
○ Vancouver Island
4.2.2.3. VO Artist Recording. Costs vary depending on the rate of the
selected VO artist.
4.2.2.4. Travel. Estimated travel expenses:
• Ferry expense
4.2.2.5. Equipment Rentals. The Agency will provide necessary filming and
lighting gear.
○ Camera Equipment - includes A&B camera + required accessories
○ Audio Equipment - Audio recorder, shotgun mic, cables & redundant
lav mic
○ Lighting Equipment - Keylight, tube lights & required lighting modifiers
4.2.3. POST PRODUCTION
4.2.3.1. Assembly Cut. Footage + asset organization, synchronization,
labeling and timeline assembly.
4.2.3.2. Rough Cut. Narrative direction and assembly based on recorded
and curated content.
4.2.3.3. Music Selection. The Agency will review music options and provide
recommendations based on the direction set out in the storyboard
planning. Music selection must be signed-off before beginning the
next phase.
4.2.3.4. Audio Editing + Design. Includes audio editing, mixing and
processing of captured audio, SFX and music.

4.2.3.5. Fine Cut. Polishing the rough cut with pacing, b-roll, music and
sound design. Primary deliverable will be 2 minutes.
4.2.3.6. Colour Correction, Matching + Grading. The Agency to colour
correct images, match colours between clips and create an
overarching look for the video.
4.2.3.7. Revisions. Up to 3 rounds of revisions included in scope. Additional
revisions may be requested at The Agency's hourly rate.
*Final cut must be signed-off before beginning the next phase.
4.2.3.8. Alternate Edits. The Agency to create alternate edits from the full
video for social media including a 1 min and 30 sec version.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The logo that was created and the video that was produced were both very well received by our internal and external audiences. We used the special anniversary logo throughout 2023. The video was debuted at our 75th anniversary event to all of our clients and stakeholders and was also very well received. We've used these videos for a few years.

The team was very receptive to the fact that we're a complicated business and have numerous business lines and stakeholders to work with. That meant many rounds of feedback (sometimes slightly contradictory) and the team was great at handling the requests, finding ways to compromise what was needed and working to deliver on a tight timeline.

I think the attention to detail the team displayed was really important. We're a team that can nitpick the smallest detail and they were always on top of those little things.

Their scope included pre-production planning, shoot organization, on-set direction, and post-production delivery. They guided us through on-camera video recording using structured prompts, making the process efficient and comfortable, and ensured all content aligned closely with our brand identity. Across two shoots, they produced a library of high-quality visual assets that we continue to use across our digital platforms.

The project resulted in a complete library of professional photo and video assets that allowed us to launch our website and initial marketing campaigns on schedule and with a cohesive visual identity. The content significantly elevated our brand presence and credibility at launch, reduced the need for additional reshoots, and enabled consistent use across multiple channels including our website, paid campaigns, and social media. Internally, the structured approach to filming improved efficiency and confidence on camera, allowing us to capture high-quality video content in fewer takes than anticipated.

Their organized and collaborative approach made the process smooth and efficient from planning through delivery.

What stood out most was their ability to combine a high level of organization and professionalism with a creative process that felt easy and supportive. The structured prompts and on-set guidance made recording video content approachable and efficient, while still allowing the final product to feel natural and on-brand. They clearly listened to our goals and translated them into visually compelling content that aligned seamlessly with our brand vision, which is not always easy to achieve early in a brand’s lifecycle.

Honestly, it was an excellent experience through and through. No notes!
