Well it's come in phases. We have a Restaurant UX that includes table management and that requires letting restaurants build out floor plans so they can seat customers. We have a Tour Operator UX that has unique needs dedicated to activities.
There's also a Customer UX where people can find restaurants, read reviews, and book reservations. And a concierge UX that does the same as the customer UX but with special tools to organize the hotel staff.
What was the team composition?
I think we have one front end designer who also converts mockups to CSS. Superawesome has gone through a few transitions over the years and our primary contact has changed. They cycle in replacements well.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
We had compliments from our members regarding ease of use and flexibility regarding managing their settings. But it hasn't been a single feature that delivers results. They manage our full site.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
Really awesome communication and workflow. They set up Slack and we can exchange comments there during morning work hours. They also used Basecamp, Pivotal Tracker and Git Hub to keep things synced.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
The overall skill set is very impressive. Design web apps are not the same thing as a restaurant website. These guys can really think through the style with usability in mind. They'll save your users some clicks for sure.
Are there any areas for improvement?
Turn around time sometimes wasn't ideal. We need an adjustment in a pinch and they may not be on until Wednesday. But that's really a lack of patience on our part.

I’m the president of Aligni. We’re a SaaS provider for engineers and manufacturers, and we provide a system that organizes product lifecycle management as well as inventory, material requirements, and various accounting tasks.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Superawesome?
When we first started out with them, we were looking for some kind of part-time design help for our web app and input on how our UI operates.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
They focus on design and frontend development to improve our UX/UI. They work in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and we generally collaborate on everything depending on what the specific need is.
Sometimes we’ll provide them with some loose ideas or rough wireframes, and they’ll send us iterations of that, and then ultimately the final design. Other times they deliver the initial wireframes and we will comment back and forth on them until we have something we’re satisfied with.
We operate in a very specific area that requires a lot of domain knowledge, so Superawesome relies on us fairly heavily for that and we rely on them for the design expertise and realizing those goals in the final deployment.
What is the team composition?
We work with one of the founders and two frontend developers as well.
How did you come to work with Superawesome?
We were working with a development team that had an association with them at the time, so we checked them out and worked with them on a couple of early projects to see how they would do. We’ve been working with them ever since.
How much have you invested with them?
We spend around $1,400 a month with Superawesome, so over the course of six years probably closer to $100,000 in total.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started together around July 2013 and the work is still ongoing.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Since the vast majority of their work has been focused on web app design, I can’t really say that we have metrics on increased user counts or anything that’s directly attributable to their work.
Subjectively, the UX has improved dramatically since they started working with us. We regularly get feedback from customers and new prospects who find the application to be very usable and pleasing to the eye.
For that reason, I would say they’ve been an extremely worthwhile investment for us.
How did Superawesome perform from a project management standpoint?
They are excellent project managers. They are especially effective at working on a variety of different project management platforms over the years. We’ve tried Trello, Pivotal Tracker and Asana, and had success with all of them.
We’ve found Figma to be the most successful for us. I credit them with staying on top of project management trends and software to find what really worked best for us.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Communication with them is very easy. It can sometimes be difficult to work effectively with companies that are in other time zones, but there has never been any kind of barrier in our workflows. Email communication has always been clear and effective. They’re a great group to work with all around.
Are there any areas they could improve?
We’ve always been able to resolve any issues that come up very quickly, so I have no complaints.

We interviewed a dozen potential partners but decided on Superawesome because they were quick and clear in communicating. So even though they were not in country, we had a continue to have great communication. Beyond them being quick, they also just "get us" when we try to describe certain things.

We've had plenty of video-calls to plan the projects. Superawesome then also required that we provide the necessary information they needed to do their work, which was helpful for us in order to understand how to collaborate to achieve a efficient result. Their responsibility was design and development, while we created the text content.

Superawesome started with only few employees, but have since then grown to also include sole project managers, which are currently our focal persons. They also have designers and developers, with whom we've also talked on an per issue base.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
We've not only received tons of compliments from our supporters on our website, we actually have relatively great website performance in relation to other organizations as measured by viewer KPIs. Surely it is not only the words we wrote that make it interesting, it is especially because the design is designed on point. This allows us ultimate to provide information to supporters and fundraise better.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
Since our inception in 2012 we have had to change plenty of of partners, staff, office buildings, etc… which all cost plenty of time and nerves. The only partner we continue to have is Superawesome. That's a symbol of effectiveness of their performance throughout the years.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
I find it most impressive that they are reliable. Although this may seem like a small deal, it is a big deal for us and we have had other companies we worked with fail miserably on this point, where Superawesome has delivered exceptional service for 7 years and counting.

Superawesome are great at what they do for sure. Our biggest wish would be that they extend their area of development to some of the other programs we use, namely salesforce, but that may be a reach.

What was the scope of their involvement?
Their recent projects with us were for HLT [Higher Learning Technologies] and Indiana Destinations. Superawesome redesigned the HLT's corporate website, adding parallax and animation. The turnaround time for this project was very condensed, and the client's demands were high, but they delivered an excellent product.
Indiana Destinations was a project for the National Center for Families Learning. This was a custom version built on a pre-existing platform, Camp Wonderopolis, and it was developed around the destinations in Indiana. The goal was to highlight different areas in the community. The timeline for this project was also compressed, and Superawesome delivered on the design and the frontend development side. In addition, they worked on logo design and illustrated different destinations and graphics that were featured on the homepage. They used XHTML, CSS, Javascript, and Ajax.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I'm the founder and president of Aligni, a business-to-business online application for product lifecycle and manufacturing management, with a focus on electronics.

What challenge were you trying to address with Superawesome?
We needed someone with expertise in user experience to handle all the design aspects of our application. We were looking not for a regular design firm, but for someone who was intimately familiar with building an active interactive app that has a database backend.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
They designed the user experience and interface for the app. We built the app itself, but we needed to present customers with a more polished front-end. We needed it to be highly functional for regular users, who work with the app several hours a day. We were also trying to attract new users to the platform, so we wanted the design to be modern and beautiful. They reached both of these goals for us.
What is the team dynamic?
Initially, we interacted only with Dragan [Founder, Superawesome]. Later, we worked with 4 other members of his team.

They're actually based in Serbia, and I was referred to them by another team I worked with several years ago.

Our customers really appreciate the application; they say it's extremely usable and has a functional and modern design.

They stay on top of everything and always keep us informed. We've used PivotalTracker, email, Dropbox, and Slack to communicate. They've been extremely responsive and never missed deadlines.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They're easy to work with, honest, and open. We've had a very fluid experience and relationship. Dragan is very capable at translating my ideas into a final product.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I can't think of anything. We have a very symbiotic relationship, even though I wish we saw each other more often–he's been to the US once and I went to Serbia twice.

Be honest with them. They're very receptive to both positive and negative feedback and use it to make the end product exactly what their clients and their clients' customers need.
