We brought Slashdev in to help rescue a seriously disastrous codebase left behind by a prior vendor. They started by mapping the entire system, then spent seven months - working closely with our internal team - untangling technical debt and refactoring essentially everything, all without disrupting active workflows. It wasn’t just fire-fighting; they rebuilt foundations while the lights stayed on. What impressed us most was how quickly they internalized our product logic and user requirements. Instead of merely “fixing bugs,” they proposed pragmatic, high-leverage improvements that boosted reliability, performance, and maintainability. They put guardrails in place - clean architecture boundaries, deployment hygiene, and clear , well-documented code - so our platform is now stable, scalable, and easier to evolve. We’re still engaged with Slashdev and expect to be for the foreseeable future. Post-launch, we’re [re]architecting into a Laravel-based API on the back end with a React front end. Slashdev is already helping shape that plan so we can deliver features faster, reduce coupling, and support richer client experiences. Bottom line: this is a team that thinks beyond tickets, takes real ownership, and communicates like partners. They turned a broken system into a product we can confidently grow. Strongly recommended for any organization that needs senior-level execution and long-term architectural thinking.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Successfdully refactored 90% of the codebase in ~7 months, eliminating systemic errors "architected" by the prior vendor.

Project management was lean and effective. Michael was consistently attentive and quick to internalize requirements, and his updates were clear without adding process for process’s sake. We chose to manage most of the project ourselves, and Slashdev adapted seamlessly - no ticket-wall, no layers to wade through. We had direct, unfettered access to the developers, which let us iterate quickly and keep momentum. Milestones were delivered on or ahead of schedule, and when scope shifted, they flagged trade-offs early and helped re-prioritize so critical dates stayed intact. Response times were strong (same day for routine items; near-immediate for urgent issues), and they were proactive about risks and handoffs. The net effect: work got done, on time, with minimal ceremony.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

What stood out most is their no-gatekeeping model. Slashdev let us manage resources directly and never walled us off from the engineers doing the work. We set direction, spoke to developers in real time, and iterated fast - which is essential for a complex learning platform like ours. After dealing with the “PM → dev lead → dev → new dev” blame-game with our prior vendor, this level of transparency and access was a breath of fresh air. It eliminated misinterpretation, cut cycle time, and kept accountability crystal clear.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Slashdev could have done differently?

If we had to call out one area for improvement, it would be around early infrastructure planning. When we migrated from a barebones Linode machine to a DigitalOcean App Platform, we didn’t fully anticipate that ancillary services (like mIRT, PDF parsing, Redis, Workers due to long-running jobs, etc.) would still require dedicated droplets or additional App Platform components. Slashdev helped us adapt, but it would have been helpful to flag those limitations earlier in the process so we could plan resources. That said, they guided us through the transition smoothly, and the end result is an environment that’s far more maintainable and scalable than what we started with.

I’m the executive director of Exandas Ltd. We offer development services, our main expertise being backend development and microservices. We work with different organizations ranging from the media industry, financial institutions, and blockchain companies.

What challenge were you trying to address with Slashdev?

I needed assistance with microservices development for one of my end clients. The client’s preferred language was Kotlin, and I needed to find an outsourcing company since I didn’t have time to do it myself.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Slashdev helped me recruit a Kotlin developer specifically for this project. They created small microservices to generate unique user IDs within a system. I asked them to make the microservices as generic as possible so that I could use them with other clients, and they also assisted me with some error-handling services.

I worked with Michael (Founder & CEO), who helped me recruit a senior Kotlin developer.

How did you come to work with Slashdev?

I found Slashdev online after searching for an outsourcing company that could help me with this project. I searched on Upwork and Toptal, but I couldn’t find someone with the appropriate level of experience in this field. I interviewed companies that knew Kotlin, but I was struggling to find Android developers. 

I needed microservices, so I contacted Slashdev, and Michael told me he could look for a Kotlin developer specifically for this project. We spoke on a Friday, and by Monday, I had two candidates. I interviewed them the next day and gave them a test project to work on.

How much have you invested with them?

I invested $1,200 with Slashdev.

What is the status of this engagement?

I worked with Slashdev throughout January 2023.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The developer recruited by Slashdev produced very good test coverage, close to 81%–85%.

How did Slashdev perform from a project management standpoint?

I had fluent communication with both Slashdev and the developer. Michael checked with me to track the project’s progress and the developer’s work. On the other hand, I had daily Google Meet meetings with the developer, and he also contacted me during the day if there were any blockers or if he needed assistance.

For project management, I created a read-me file on GitHub with a set of tasks that outlined the structure I wanted in terms of the project. We used GitHub’s issues function to track all progress, and I had regular meetings with the developer and the end client throughout the project.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I was most impressed with Slashdev’s quickness to find a developer with the right set of skills. Slashdev has a team of developers, so they immediately understood the project's technical requirements and found the right professional.

I found one profile in a week during my research on Toptal and Upwork. Michael found two candidates over the weekend. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

On Slashdev’s portal, I could see the developer’s comments on a daily basis and how many hours they had worked on my project. However, Slashdev has a different system for seeing and downloading invoices. It would be great if Slashdev could integrate these two portals to offer a complete project overview in one site.

Moreover, I don’t think Slashdev has a system to differentiate which staff members are working on a project if there are two active projects since the portal only shows a list of developers working on an active project. I’ll likely use Slashdev’s services again, so I’d like to be able to manage different projects on separate dashboards.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I recommend having direct communication with Slashdev and meeting with Slashdev’s CEO. If you try to contact Slashdev through their website, it’s harder to find the right candidate for your project. If you talk to Slashdev’s specialists directly, they’ll understand your requirements and go above and beyond to meet your expectations.

They have been doing great so far. I know they are rolling out more features for their clients to track time and that has been great for us to check their progress.

I was the founder and technical leader of an enterprise focused in delivering software for banking enterprises.

One of our best-selling software was using old technology and the codebase was starting to become messy, leaving our productivity slower. This way, we created a project to refactor it, but, our team was focused on the enterprise's core delivering new projects. We were in need of excellent and experienced developers for a short amount of time, this way, the best way was to hire some freelance developers.

After searching for the competitors, we found the best price in Slashdev, and the developers in the network were most of the time with more than 5 years of experience as developers.

We decided to move from our plain PHP software to a more modern Node.js / React structure. In the first 6 months, the idea was to refactor the project maintaining the business rules. After this initial period, we started adding new functionalities to the project.

We hired three senior developers: one backend with more than 5 years of using Node.js and a perfect frontend guy with 6 years of experience, using React in the last 3 years. Also, we hired a talented full-stack developer experienced in PHP / Node.js and React that was a pivotal developer to help others understand the business rules of the project.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The project that was important to us was starting to give us a lot of headaches. Maintaining an old code was starting to become impossible, and sometimes, some bugs were impossible to track and find. This way, a refactor was an urgent thing that we cannot do at that moment, without stopping the other deliveries.

We tried to hire some developers directly before trying Slashdev, but was very hard to find a good and experienced developer with a lower amount. This way, the faster. the cheaper and easier option was to hire developers from Slashdev network. After finishing, the project now is updated with new technologies, new features and the best part: a easy and readable codebase.

We had a daily meeting, and all the developers were open to chatting on the Slack platform. The first contacts were direct with the founders Michael and Patrich that was always open to discussing the project details and helping us to find the best match for the job.

We were impressed by how fast they found talented developers. In two weeks, we had all of our team available to start the project.

The resource is a mid-level rather than a senior engineer but our engineers have given quite good feedback on him in terms of enthusiasm to get involved and learn. He takes feedback well, and he’s friendly and happy to help out.

How did Slashdev perform from a project management standpoint?

We use Jira and communicate via Slack and Google Meet.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their price is impressive.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It’d be really cool if they had a payment system. At the moment, they send invoices we have to pay, but if they had a system where we could pay by card, it’d make it a lot easier.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I recommend working with them. Be clear and upfront with what you need. You should have a kickoff call with them and the engineer rather than passing information between an additional person.

Slashdev first built out a web service called 'Instant Access' that allowed customers to get access to their units immediately after completing their rental through any channel. This required integration with our Property Management System, Sitelink, and the creation of customized welcome messages for different unit types and locations, as well as notifications for our team if issues arose. After that, they developed an internal web app that streamlined our onboarding and offboarding processes, consolidated data for all our units and customers, and enabled us to manage CRM and property management tasks efficiently. The app integrates with several other systems and has been widely adopted by our team, automating tasks that were previously managed manually.
