This project delivers a full rebuild of The Birding Game, creating an immersive, gamified birdwatching experience using Matterport 360 tours, eBird data and Airtable bird videos 

They design and develop a new web platform where users explore virtual trails, discover birds, identify species through video or sound, earn points and badges and track their life and year lists. The system supports subscriptions, single level purchases and a free tier with limited birds.

Backend work includes Supabase authentication, user tracking, bird randomization logic, rarity scoring, eBird data syncing and tools to add new hotspots easily.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

From my perspective, the results have been outstanding. The project delivered clear, measurable progress across every major area:

1. Great User Engagement:
Players are spending more time in the game than I expected!! They are completing full levels, identifying birds and returning regularly to explore new hotspots.

2. Fully Functional Core Game:
All essential mechanics work reliably, including bird prompts, video popups, ID inputs, points, lifer detection, badges and the world map with hotspots.

3. Accurate Bird Logic and Data Integration:
The system correctly pulls eBird data, assigns birds based on season and rarity and shows a realistic rotation of species each time a user plays.

4. Smooth Content Management:
New hotspots can be added end to end using Matterport, eBird and Airtable data, and everything syncs into the game without manual rework.

5. Stable, Production Ready Platform:
Authentication, scoring, user lists, media loading and gameplay run consistently with no blocking issues.

Design and development of a custom software solution for my company, focused on both the client-facing e-commerce and internal administrative functionalities. The system will be deployed on Microsoft Azure, and will support integration with my company's ERP system. The deliverables include the user interface design, development, and deployment of both the frontend and backend, as well as setup of secure infrastructure and handover of full IP rights to the client.

The system must handle:
1. Product, offer, and order data modeling, offer managmeent.
2. User management and company (B2B partner) registration.
3. Document and notification management.
4. Workflow for offers, order processing, and role-based email notifications.
5. Search engine for products, categories, and orders.

The internal administrative dashboard:

We need less sales effort and some complex admin items (e.g scan of the delivery letter) was handled by the system elegantly, keep my staff's work less stressful.

It increased our online ordering by 1x% within a few months from start.

This was our first custom developed digital product, I must say Rollout team wnt up and beyond to have great progress on the sales system! • We have been able to scale our application to a couple million users in the storm of the Covid days which has been extremely helpful not just to the company but also to the society in helping prevent the spread of covid.
• Over the last couple of quarters, we have improved our technologies on the frontend by migrating to the latest which has helped improve product security and reliability.
• They have helped build many new efficient and bug-free features into the product that has helped the business as well.

We communicate via Slack and use the Atlassian suite of products for project management. They have almost always met the project deliverables on-time and any major delay was communicated well in advance that allowed the team to prepare.

We outsourced our whole development work to Rollout IT. They worked on DevOps and testing. We initially didn’t have a clear expectation; we just wanted a secure and stable stack. They built several solutions from scratch.

We mainly concentrated on the number of errors and the number of done items versus released items. We had some issues and instruments that weren’t fully completed, but there weren’t any significant issues. Everything was under control, and we were satisfied with their work.

Communication was good the whole time. When the script was running, we used Slack. From a management perspective, we used phone and email to communicate. In general, we used anything that would help the team, including Jira. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Most developers have a snowflake attitude, which is unacceptable at a client level. However, Rollout IT was professional. We had some rough times, but out of the teams we’ve worked with, they’re the ones we’d work with in the future.

Are there any areas they could improve?

We extended our budget by 100%, so we had to spend twice the money. It wasn’t entirely their fault, but it was a significant problem.

Rollout IT proactively helped us build a new product from scratch, and they used their expertise to deliver a fast-loading system with a dependable UX — those were our two primary success metrics for their work. Some of the features didn't work as seamlessly as expected, but that can be explained by the R&D nature of the project. They generally had impressive coding skills that led to quality and almost bug-free solutions.

We communicated via email, video conferencing, and Discord. Rollout IT professionally dealt with our stringent requirements and timelines and sent follow-ups to escalate the development phase.

I like that they’re a small agency because it makes them really agile. They always find a solution for us and are very flexible. Our communication is very open as well, which is something I don’t think we would’ve achieved with a bigger agency.
