Having worked with Ben and his team on previous projects as a full time developer, I was now taking on a CTO and co-founder role at my new startup. I could think of no more exciting partnership than to bring Pixel-1 on board for the product design.

We are a VC funded startup and we understand that the bar for design is ever rising in our industry, online travel bookings. Being the core developer and frontend engineer in these initial stages I recognize the value of investing in good design foundations. You can always go overboard with too much research and branding - but Ben understands this and knows what is necessary to launch with a high degree of design quality.

The design was an accelerant for us to bring our product out the door in an amazingly short amount of time. He was able to front-load a lot of retainer work ahead of our highly aggressive launch date. We have been sharing more upcoming work with investors and partners directly from Figma too.

All in all, I could not recommend a better design firm for startups and product-minded companies. I have worked on the agency side too, and it's all very professionally managed. Also have experience working with in-house startup designers and I've come to advocate for the agency setup instead.

There's too many hats for a singular designer in-house to do everything. For example we got a very high quality set of icons for every key Japanese city. Just check our website, it speaks for itself hopefully :)

Time to market - met aggressive timelines.

Everything always on time, which is saying a lot because we had aggressive timelines coming into the project. Slack + virtual meetings weekly to align on goals, daily updates with items being worked on and delivered, along with Figma access for commentary. Everything was 100% in this area.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Great portfolio of success stories closely aligned with our mindset and area of work (digital product design at startups). Then after working together, seeing high quality expectations and project management up close. The quality of the work speaks for itself. No reluctance to have respectful but critical feedback and work out resolutions for the best design possible. I appreciate that.

We engaged Pixel-1 to help us redesign our website, which consisted of 30+ pages ranging from a press and careers page, to services and industry pages. We needed to modernise our website and make each page look-not exactly uniform-but recognizably branded.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The Pixel-1 team was able to deliver designs quickly and efficiently, and action our feedback within an iteration cycle (for us that was a week between design syncs). We published almost 50 newly designed webpages in our new brand style, with updated graphics and a more professional and trust-inspiring UX. As a result, more visitors spent more time browsing our website and we were able to increase our leads and update our lead capture flow to a more efficient process.

We enjoyed working with Benoit and Aurelie, they were always on top of our feedback, communicative, and responsive in Slack.

Pixel-1 worked efficiently to hit our deadline and even exceeded some of the scoped work. They had to get up to speed very quickly on our space and product in order to create compelling designs. They were very collaborative and responsive to feedback. They communicated early and often to keep everyone aligned.

They are good designers, and good at the operations of providing their service. Their work was efficient and productive. They paid careful attention to our needs and requirements, and did a lot of work to get the user journeys right. They dove into detail about the requirements and thought carefully about the overall product and its details. The output was high-quality, on-time, and fairly priced. It was a pleasure to work with them and to learn from them.

I find they have a unique understanding of the users intent when designing a product. We felt that they designed in a way that took the technical aspects into account while also satisfying how a user might want to gather information and view data without creating a burdensome design that would complicate the technical lift to build.
