BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the CEO of CRaKN LLC, SaaS solution for the funeral industry. Our first-in-the-industry software serves to automate different processes in the field of death care.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Pernix Solutions?
Essentially, we lacked the internal resources to address all of our development needs. We were specifically seeking mobile development work, where we’d experienced some roadblocks.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Pernix Solutions helped create our application, which is a unique solution for funeral service providers. They utilize state-of-the-art technology to allow for the management of processes like cremation and embalming.
We have both a web application and a mobile application, where the former interfaces with the latter. The web app is a communication and management medium, where a business owner can work with customers and receive requests for services.
What is the team composition?
We primarily worked with a project manager, Mario (Software Crafter, Pernix Solutions) but we also engaged heavily with Carlos (CEO, Pernix Solutions). On top of that, we worked with many members of their team.
How did you come to work with Pernix Solutions?
We heard about them through a referral by a good acquaintance. We made a few calls and gave them a sample project. We were very pleased with their work, so we decided to move forward with them.
What is the status of this engagement?
We began working together in July 2019 and the work is still ongoing. It’s a complicated project, so the scope of work is pretty vast.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Their work has been excellent. They’re by far the best outsourcing partner I’ve ever worked with; even though they’re an offshore team, they’re just as good as a local provider. I appreciate that they take a partner approach—they take responsibility and ownership of their work.
How did Pernix Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?
They’re excellent communicators who are patient and transparent. They don’t hesitate to push back when that’s appropriate. They also muscle in when things really need to be done.
What did you find most impressive about them?
It’s been such a delight working with them because they’re clearly vested in our success. They take business personally, which is very noteworthy.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I can’t think of anything, other than the fact that I’d be interested in engaging them for more projects. They could amp up their marketing because I wish I’d known about them and the full scope of their service offering earlier.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Stay engaged—provide them with a clearly-delineated project plan and requirements. Such materials are key when it comes to working with any development team, so I’d keep that in mind.

Describe the scope of work in detail. Please include a summary of key deliverables.
Rebuild an existing 15-20 year old JAVA software data processing system that was running off of AWS servers. This system was used to import and export files for processing coupon redemptions. The primary deliverable was to rebuild the existing outdated system using the latest programming laguages and improve the system for expandability.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
We asked for the new system to be able to do everything the old system was able to do and allow for expandability for new features. It needed to be accurate and easy to use. All of those goals were met. The new software system was built with the latest software, which made it easy to keep updated and running smooth. Our older system had frequent processing errors, the new system was built to flag, analyze, and notify us of any file errors before being processed, which save many, many hours, sometimes days of troubleshooting and processing delays. Data entry and processing steps were streamlined to save hours of data entry time.
Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?
Jose managed the project and did an exceptional job. Jose was always on top of things and responded to issues and communications promptly. He managed and coordinated his team very effectively and completed the project with the estimated delivery time. Jose and his team jumped in to help resolve errors and issues with the old software during the time they were building the new system. They all went above and beyond what we expected of them. We are extremely impressed with Jose and the entire Pernix team.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
They worked closely with us during the project and responded quickly to project requests, changes, and issues. Jose treated us as if we were his only project and as if he worked directly for us. His team supported him very well and jumped in to resolve issues when Jose was not available. Carlos, Jose, and the entire Pernix team that worked on our project were very intune with our needs and went out of their way to make this project a success for us. They helped resolve issues with our old software system while we were waiting for the new system to be completed, which was above and beyond what we expected. They were very professional all the way through the project and we know they are there for us when we need them. The final price of this project was well below the quotes we had from other programming companies, saving us a significant amount of money without compromise to the final product.
Are there any areas for improvement or something Pernix Solutions could have done differently?
The billing and payment processing system could be improved, especially for payments from outside of the country. This was a minor issue and they were quick to correct and or help with the few issues that occurred.
