Matellio is building a system comprised of web-based software and mobile apps. They've helped translate business needs, first, into requested features and then into development tasks.
The new system has improved business efficiency, drastically reducing tedious data upkeep. Matellio utilizes a streamlined communication strategy and involves themselves in conceptual discussions, offering their technical expertise and industry experience to optimize the final product.
The client submitted this review online.
BACKGROUND
Please describe your company and your position there.
I’m the CEO of LandscAPPer, a software and mobile application solution for my existing landscape service business.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
For what projects/services did your company hire Matellio?
I needed someone to develop, program, and implement a web-based software system with mobile field applications.
What were your goals for this project?
I wanted a complete software solution for my landscaping service business. My business currently uses a combination of five different systems but I wanted a paperless, efficient, and accurate system that eliminates redundant data entry.
SOLUTION
How did you select this vendor?
After interviewing many different development companies, Matellio was a clear choice, combining professionalism, quality, and value.
Can you go into detail about the services they provided and the scope of the project?
Matellio took my theoretical system and created a development plan to meet all of my needs—from client-relationship management, payroll, and invoicing to estimating, contracting, dispatching, managing, and tracking field projects—through a combination of web software and mobile applications.
What was the team composition?
I had a primary point of contact and lead developer who managed my development, along with lead programmers for the web and mobile applications.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?
I’ve been testing and implementing the software in my business for the past month and I’ve already eliminated multiple levels of redundant data entry and all paper from my existing processes.
How was project management arranged and how effective was it?
Having a single development manager as my point of contact with development leads below him works well for me. We have close email contact with intermittent phone conferences as necessary to solve problems throughout the process.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
I’m most pleased with the value they’ve provided me with this project. I knew what functionality and features I needed in my software and mobile application, and that no existing system could meet all my needs, but I’m not a software developer or a trained programmer. We’ve worked through the development and modified and improved my initial design so that its abilities now far exceed what I originally thought was possible.
Are there any areas where they can improve?
does a good job of gathering the information they need to start development but they should have an additional line of questioning regarding the purpose of the final product, which would help them define the development’s logic. On several occasions, I received a final product that didn’t reflect my vision after I’d discussed the work already. This wasn’t the development team’s fault though, it was a learning experience for me. I have to ensure that the purpose of the functionality is achieved, instead of just assuming that programmers will deliver exactly what I envision.

Matellio developed a fitness platform from the ground up. They designed and developed the mobile app for iOS and built a website as well. They continue to provide updates and create new in-app features.
Matellio delivered an intricate application that offers users thousands of customizable workouts. They accepted a roughly outlined scope of work and constructed an engaging product. Their talented team of developers provides high-quality code for an affordable price. They’re skilled communicators.
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this

BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the founder and CEO of a mobile fitness app called LIFTLINGO.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Matellio?
I wanted to build a health and fitness application that could make workout routines accessible to people with busy schedules. My company needed a full development team to deliver the platform’s iOS app and accompanying website.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
My partner and I started this project without a clear idea of how we wanted everything built but were also particular about how we wanted everything to look. We brought Matellio into the development process and they worked with us from start to finish. Working off of what was essentially a couple of drawings, they led both the frontend design and backend development. The project constantly shifted due to our lack of initial planning, but they never became frustrated with us or let the platform suffer.
The app’s library boasts 2,200 workouts with routines customized for both men and women, respectively. Users can filter and choose exercises based on their time available, current body weight, overall health goals, etc. They’re currently working to integrate the app with the Apple Watch. So far, they’ve facilitated a seamless transition.
They built our website and that functions as a landing page for the app. It also lists the app’s features, social media pages, and our business partners. Matellio is currently working on an e-commerce integration for the site as well. Additional developments that are ongoing include a new logo design, code updates, and a feature that allows users to share their personalized workouts with other people.
What is the team composition?
We interact with a total of six people. This includes the CEO, CTO, senior sales engineer, two developers, and a designer.
How did you come to work with Matellio?
As a lean startup, we were looking for a company that could exceed our expectations, but not our budget. We interviewed several companies, but then a former business partner of mine recommended Matellio. They seemed like a perfect fit, so we hired them.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent a little under $55,000 thus far.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in April 2016 and the engagement is ongoing.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
They transformed our idea and built a successful platform. We’ve received a variety of feedback and constructive criticism about the app’s performance since launch. That information drives future updates. I’ve been able to make some notable changes myself via the stellar admin panel that Matellio built into the platform. Also, we experienced a significant increase in downloads since the first round of major updates. I’d offer more defined metrics, but we’re still in the startup phase as a company.
How did Matellio perform from a project management standpoint?
We communicate via phone, email, and video conferences. Their executive stakeholders are attached to every email thread. There’s an 11-hour time difference between our companies, but they’ve been flexible with scheduling meetings and working late hours. They’ve also done their best to accommodate our budgetary needs, as the initial build took longer than expected. Our ability to understand each other and collaborate has grown over the course of the engagement.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They’re cheaper than other developers but still produce excellent work. This is made possible by their willingness to understand our goals and provide the best service they can. They’re available day or night and answer my questions with a solid understanding of the task at hand.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Providing more resources to track the site’s analytics would be appreciated.

Using PHP, Matelio developed an integrated user-ratings platform—web, iOS, and Android—from scratch. Key features included filtered searching and geolocation.
Despite minor delays, their team was highly communicative, professional, and dedicated to ensuring that the final products turned out well.
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this
client over the phone. Below is an edited
transcript.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I'm the owner of a small software development company.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Matellio?
Last year, I started developing an app and web platform that lets users rate conferences they've attended, with an aim to increase public transparency. I reached out to Matellio to help me with the development since I don’t have that kind of technical expertise.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
We used Amazon Web Services (AWS) for the server and PHP-based code for the site. The app was built for both iOS and Android. Our goal was to create a seamless experience, so the features sync across the app and web versions.
To start, I spelled out my vision for the project. They sent me a series of templates to evaluate, and we proceeded to wireframe the project from there.
The platform’s core function involves user ratings, and then users can also search for conferences in their professional fields with filtering options for industry, length, cost, or location. Each individual conference has a page where users can enter their own comments or ratings data and browse feedback from other users. Users can flag their favorite events and also add their own conference data if they're looking for an event that isn't listed.
What is the team composition?
I worked quite a bit with two of their senior managers in the US office, and then with a developer on their India team who also served as a project manager. I'm not sure how many people they had assisting with this project overall, but it didn't seem like too many.
How did you come to work with Matellio?
I found them online through a site that rated tech companies and they had a lot of positive reviews. When we spoke on the phone, not only did they seem to understand my project goals, but I really enjoyed the conversation, so I decided to work with them. We developed a scope for the project and they gave me a price quote, and we moved on from there.
How was billing handled?
They gave me a fixed price, and then there were changes to the scope later on that resulted in a few adjustments, but they were pretty fair. The total came out to around $12,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started in June 2016 and wrapped up by January 2017.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
I've had a lot of really good user feedback—people really like it. Both the app and the website run smoothly. My bigger hurdle is figuring out how to market this product and let more people know it's out there.
How did Matellio perform from a project management standpoint?
We communicated via email and Skype, and they were very responsive. They ran behind schedule a couple of times, but their communication was good and they always let us know what caused the delays. They weren't making excuses, it was more that they encountered unexpected challenges doing the work that needed extra days to sort out. You expect that sort of thing, so it didn't bother me because they were so good about reporting it.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Aside from their responsiveness, they were very easy to work with. Everyone was genuinely helpful and had a positive attitude.
Are there any areas they could improve?
It wasn't a big problem, but some members of the Indian team had not attended conferences and had some difficulty understanding exactly what the goal of rating conferences was.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
This was my first venture into app development, and my biggest takeaway is that you need to think through your marketing plan before you move on to technical development.

They are honest people. Everything that I needed has been done perfectly.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, they work well.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
It is a very good company, and anyone can have their project developed. If you want to develop a website, you need to have a good management report. If the management is okay, then they will be okay to work with on this type of project.

Matellio created design specifications for a website and admin panel, and also developed the front and backend of a native iOS and Android application. They currently provide maintenance.
Their team remained responsive and adaptable amidst changing requirements, and also created more detailed specifications which enhanced development efficiency. Their communication and timeliness were impressive, as well as their ability to promptly fix issues during testing.
The client submitted this review online.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the CEO of Yiupai Inc., a photography resource startup company based in California. We have less than ten employees, and our role is to provide a platform for photographers to share their knowledge and resources.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Matellio?
We wanted to rapidly develop an application for photographers, but our engineering possibilities were limited due to time constraints and a limited budget. We also had very loose design specs, so we needed someone to lead us and make them more detailed.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
The app is native for both iOS and Android. We gave Matellio a basic outline, then they created more detailed UI design specifications. They handled all front and backend development and also collaborated with us on additional functions. They also created more detailed specifications for both our website and admin panel. They currently provide maintenance.
Travelers are able to use our platform to get help from local photographers regarding shooting locations, and users are also able to post requests for photography services. Photographers are able to place bids on requests.
What is the team dynamic?
There were four people assigned to our project, including a project manager, tester, an iOS developer, and an Android developer. I communicated with the project manager every day.
How did you come to work with Matellio?
I spoke with a few other companies, but my main concern was obtaining a reasonable rate. I found Matellio online, checked their past designs, and saw that they had a good reputation, so I talked to them. The fact that I had a loosely detailed spec didn’t deter them, and they made it clear that they had the ability to develop a better one.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent less than $50,000. The cost of development was reasonable.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in March 2017, and the relationship is ongoing.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
I’m testing the app now, and the UI is very stable. The job was well done, and although there were some bugs and crashes in the testing stages, they managed to fix them quickly.
How did Matellio perform from a project management standpoint?
They’re in a different time zone, but we managed to communicate via phone and Skype. They handled everything professionally, understood our instructions, and usually provided a quick response. They stayed on schedule and covered the agreed scope and deliverables even though it took a little longer than expected due to some scope changes.
What did you find most impressive about them?
I like that they not only do what I ask them to do, but also suggest better ideas or options to choose from. They’re very adaptive to changes and never charged extra for additional features. They were very professional and cooperative.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No.

Matellio designed and developed an anonymous social networking app from scratch, targeting a local Middle Eastern audience with a streamlined UX/UI and finishing all tasks within a condensed timeline.
The completed platform met all requirements and surpassed initial expectations, thanks to Matellio’s impressive creative skills. The team’s clean deliverables, rapid turnaround time, and accessible price point contributed to the engagement’s efficiency.
The client submitted this review online.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the owner and CEO of a social networking startup.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Matellio?
I wanted to make an app that’s similar to Yik Yak, which was an anonymous social networking product. I want to start with the US market and maybe move it abroad if the concept grows.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
They created the app as I specified, with no user names or profile. Since Yik Yak shut down, I think my app has a chance of being more successful within next year. Right now, the app is only available on iOS.
How did you come to work with Matellio?
I Googled “best developers in the San Francisco Bay Area,” and a Clutch page came up. Matellio was in the second or third position at the time. I contacted 2 other companies, but they were very expensive. I chose Matellio because of their prices.
How much have you invested with Matellio?
I spent between $10,000 and $15,000 on this project.
What is the status of this engagement?
The project was relatively short. It started in February of 2017 and ended in June.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or impact of the engagement?
At first, I thought Matellio’s design would be messy, but it actually surpassed my expectations. It’s that good. I showed the app to a cousin of mine, and he really liked it. He also gave me some suggestions as far as things to change.
How did Matellio perform from a project management standpoint?
A few bugs need to be fixed, and we’ll take care of those in the next update. Matellio manages projects well, and I really am impressed with the design they produced in a short period of time.
What did you find most impressive about Matellio?
They’re really good at completing work quickly and not going over the timeline.
Are there any areas Matellio could improve?
There were a few bugs, but that’s not a big deal. We will fix those errors in the next iteration.
What tips or recommendations could you share that might increase the likelihood of success with Matellio?
Give them all the information up front. I couldn’t do that, so the work took an extra month.

BACKGROUND

K S Technosoft Pvt. Ltd. deals with vehicle tracking solutions to fleet owners, taxi operators, individual and corporate clients, and government agencies. The operations are in India, which means our devices work throughout India. I’m one of the directors.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Matellio?
The challenges were that we were new to the requirement, and we started working with people who had different kinds of requirements. Some people wanted to know how fast the vehicle was moving, where it was moving, how can I stop my vehicle, or how will I know if my vehicle is over-speeding. Some people wanted to make sure their vehicles don’t move into areas where they don’t want them to move, which means that they wanted to get reports of vehicles moving into unauthorized areas. We started working with Matellio with some requirements of our clients, starting with something like Xero, and then moving on throughout the years of a development of a complete software system for various industries.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
They did the entire development work from scratch for both the website and applications. The apps were for Android and iOS. They helped with the design, implementation, and ongoing improvements on the website. For reports or customization, we go back to them and tell them this is what we need for this particular client. Then they help us to develop the required reports, as well as do the software changes that we need. We have multiple clients with multiple kinds of requirements, so we make changes for the client, but not necessarily make them universal for all clients.
We have used 10-12 resources for this particular project. When we needed something to be done on an emergency basis, we get more resources. With all the work that they already had, they had enough resources to cater to our requirements. We have a dedicated team, but we can get a resource whenever necessary. Resources were not a problem for us.
We generally worked with the project lead because it’s very convenient for us to work with one person. If they wanted something to be explained to a developer, we would do that and chat with them, but the project lead was always first in order with these conversations.
They can be capable of marketing and strategy, but we did not use them for that because we have our own marketing setup. If there were suggestions that would help us to market, they would give it to us, and we would implement them if required. They’re doing the development for us, so they know that if we do something like this, it would help us in our marketing. Suggestions were always welcome, but we weren’t necessarily using them.
How did you come to work with Matellio?
We found them through a Google search. It’s been excellent that we’ve had a resource which has been helping us since 2008. We’re very happy with them.
How much have you invested with Matellio?
Since the inception, we have done considerable work with them, investing over $500,000 for sure.
What is the status of this engagement?
It was in the middle of 2008 that we started working with them. It’s an ongoing project: we keep working with them on different customizations of the website or different requirements from particular clients. What happens is we get different users for the tracking systems, so we need to make customized work. We need their help in there, telling them that this will be the client’s requirements and these are some changes that we need to do to the software. They have to help us out with that because they’re the developers who designed the entire thing for us, so we have to work with them very closely. We also want to work with them to develop an entirely new setup for us. Looking at our plans, I foresee that we will be working with them for at least the next five years, if not more.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?
As far as successes, they have done very successfully. They have been able to help us out. When we had issues with our server, they were able to configure it as a result. We have had some issues with our hardware that we use or need to make changes in the software. We expected the turnaround time in three to four days, but they were able to rework everything in less than 24 hours. It was day and night, and we are very happy with them.
How did Matellio perform from a project management standpoint?
It’s great. The most important thing is the response time, and I am getting a good response time from them. The turnaround of my work is very good. They have been able to meet the requirements. If I need someone, even at 10 PM, I will get someone to help me out. There have been times when we needed a person to help me out, and there was someone to respond. We would communicate with them through emails or calls.
What did you find most impressive about Matellio?
The uniqueness with Matellio is that they work with us and understand our requirements. They work within the timeframes that we have given them and within our budget. With a large number of service providers all over the world, the issue comes from that we are in India and they work in different places. We don’t care where they work from, but when I need them, they are there to help me. The timeframe is very important for us because our hardware is in different locations in India as well as overseas. If we get requirements or problems, or if there is an issue, there they are there to help me out. I’m very happy with them.
Are there any areas Matellio could improve?
As of now, I really don’t see any negative thing which I can say about them. They have good developers. They have good people who understand our requirements, so I’m quite happy with them.
What tips or recommendations could you share that might increase the likelihood of success with Matellio?
Any client who wants to work with anyone has to be very sure as to what they need to do. Put down your requirements with priorities listing your first, second, third, and fourth priority, and timeline. If you do that, I don’t think that there will be an issue with Matellio. That’s how we worked with them. We gave them our priorities, timeline, funds available, and how we will work. We got our desired result because we were clear as to what we needed to do and by being very open with them. Transparency was a very important factor in our dealing with them, and we were very transparent. If something was not good, we told them upfront that it’s not good and that it has to be done this way because the client is not happy. We were very open, and that’s why we got the exact results.

BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the founder of TimeLock Documentation. We do commissioning applications for mechanical equipment and electrical equipment. We have these applications that are available in the App Stores right now, and they’re being used by a few companies in Silicon Valley. We’re a pretty small startup right now, but we have a good future here and we’re filling a niche that hasn’t been filled yet, so we’re pretty excited about that.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Matellio?
Matellio helped me develop some mechanical engineering applications for the mechanical industry.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
The apps are for the construction and mechanical service industry. Matellio was involved in the design, development, and testing phases, pretty much the entire cycle. They’re very well-rounded in that regard. They were able to help me with a lot of the artwork design for my applications, and also some stuff that I used on my website. They were able to help with some of the pieces and components of the applications and how they would interact with a person in the field using them. And they had good ideas about how the apps would be used and how you’d get them into the field, and what good designs would be.
We developed for iOS and Android devices. They used Java for Android and Swift for iOS. I know that’s what we were using. And it was on multiple platforms. They could go back pretty far for older devices, and then still maintain for the younger stuff.
How did you come to work with Matellio?
I just found them online. I liked their ads. I called them, and I got a really positive response. Through that process, I narrowed down a field of probably 10-15 people that I was talking to. I had interviewed several different developers, and it came down to them and one other company. But I ended up choosing Matellio because their pricing is competitive, and they offered a total process and follow-through that I was really looking for. They were able to achieve that. I’ve given them some more work since then because of that. It’s worked out quite well for me—and for them, I think.
What is the status of this engagement?
I believe we started working in September of 2016. They’ve fulfilled their obligations to me thus far; I do have some future applications we’d like to build out, and we would definitely use them for that. We just did quite extensive testing, and we’re publishing everything right now. The apps are in the stores and available now. I’ve already hired them on for maintenance with me, and I plan on developing more stuff and using them going forward.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?
As far as sales metrics, I don’t have anything as of yet. Maybe in six, eight months, we’d have our numbers back from Apple and the Play Store and stuff like that. But as far as designing for mechanics and stuff like that, it was a good design. Of course, I had a lot of input into the design process.
How did Matellio perform from a project management standpoint?
They worked with us really well. They were actually more time-focused than we were, and they helped us focus in more and push over the line. They really interacted well. They’re based out of India and there is a time difference, and I thought that might be an issue, but it actually didn’t really seem to be a challenge. They’re very thoughtful in their emails as far as covering everything, and they’re very proactive, I would say.
Their project management was really impressive. Like I said, having to deal with the time zones, they could follow direction through an email on some pretty complicated stuff and actually get it correct the first time or with minimal mistakes. I thought it was going to be a lot harder. It was not that hard at all. They made it really easy, actually.
What did you find most impressive about Matellio?
They have very good design and art people. The developers are pretty good at the code. You’re always going to have a lot of issues when you’re beta testing, and if anything needed to be worked out or changed or fixed, they were very compliant in that regard. Other than that, the general professionalism is great. They really do want to provide you with the product you want. I thought they really went above and beyond.
Sometimes there are a lot of changes. You see something, you don’t like it, you want to do something else. And then that comes out and you realize you actually wanted it a little different from that. They were pretty flexible with the changes, making sure we were happy with the final product. I thought that was good.
Are there any areas Matellio could improve?
I know they have an office near where I live, but I would have to explore more personal contact as far as having more local people here.
What tips or recommendations could you share that might increase the likelihood of success with Matellio?
I would have a really clear goal written out in whatever you're trying to do. As long as they have a clear outline of what they’re doing, they’re fine. Have that all taken care of ahead of time. It can be hard to just call them up and talk because of the time barrier, so it’s helpful to be specific about what you want.

transcript.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
We provide task management for the automotive industry. I am the Vice President of Creative Marketing.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Matellio?
We wanted to create a task managing app for the automotive industry. The goal was to create accountability with our sales people, giving them a checklist to manage, making sure that each requirement from the dealership was completed on a day-to-day basis. Our dealers sign up to the program, and provide the app to their sales people. They also have access to a dashboard which shows the current and past activity.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Matellio developed a mobile app for iOS and Android with an integrated web-based dashboard. The app is only aimed at sales staff, not consumers.
How did you come to work with Matellio?
Matellio was selected based on online reviews, but I only came onboard after we'd started working with them.
How much have you invested with Matellio?
The cost is confidential unfortunately.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in March 2016. Our project has been completed, but we have another one in the works for Matellio.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?
We are extremely satisfied with Matellio. We haven't documented statistics pertaining to bugs or other factors, but I can say that, as with any software project, we've encountered issues along the way. Anytime we made note of them and contacted Matellio, they took care of the problems right away. The response time was great.
How did Matellio perform from a project management standpoint?
I enjoyed our interaction with Matellio. I have communicated with our developers numerous times, and they've provided excellent customer service.
What did you find most impressive about Matellio?
I feel that Matellio has helped out with problem solving, and finding a solutions to particular design or functionality problems which we had. It's been a good experience.
Are there any areas Matellio could improve?
The only issue was our difference in time and location. This isn't something that Matellio can change, so I wouldn't use it as a complaint against them.
What tips or recommendations could you share that might increase the likelihood of success with Matellio?
I would advise any client to figure out what they want, construct a detailed scope, and have as many in-depth discussions as possible. We were able to do this, but I would have had even more discussions, given that this was my first project of this kind, and it proved to be a learning experience. Matellio asked me many questions which engaged me to think more about my needs.
