What impressed us most about the company was their exceptional responsiveness and commitment to collaboration. The use of tools like JIRA for transparency and their proactive communication throughout the project made the entire process seamless and stress-free.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Matellio could have done differently?
While the overall experience with the team was excellent, one area that could be improved is the initial onboarding and alignment process. Although they were thorough in understanding our needs and refining workflows, a more structured and interactive onboarding session could have been beneficial. Specifically, providing guidance on how to best use JIRA for tracking progress and managing tasks would have streamlined communication and enhanced our ability to stay actively involved during the project. This would have been particularly helpful in maximizing the transparency and efficiency of the development process.

Matellio has provided development services to a social media company. They’ve used Java and native languages to build a motivational social media platform and mobile app for iOS and Android.
The Matellio team has delivered a functional, user-friendly platform that has received overwhelmingly positive user feedback. They’ve exceeded the client’s expectations by delivering high-quality work ahead of schedule and within budget. The team has used Zoom to communicate.
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this
client over the phone. Below is an edited
transcript.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I work for a social media platform.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Matellio?
We hired Matellio to rebuild our platform and social media app according to our vision. Our goal was to create a positive social media platform that doesn’t tolerate violence or hate speech and inspires people to go after their dreams. We wanted to unify our youth by promoting good morals, integrity, and togetherness.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
We initially engaged a different development partner to create the platform, but it wasn’t functional, so we needed Matellio to rebuild it. We shared our vision for the app’s design, functionality, and key features. Then, they redesigned and developed the application for iOS and Android using Java and native languages. They were also responsible for rebuilding our website.
The app enables users to sign up, log in, and build a profile. After building out their profile, users can follow people, upload photos, share stories, and go live. We also have a feature that encourages users to showcase their unique talents and connect them with people who can help them further their careers. We also have a poster board function that allows users to share, reshare, and comment on content. They can also list items for sale or donation.
Our app also allows people to broadcast their services for others to book, and we have video calling and texting capabilities. Lastly, we have a motivational feature where users can view new motivational content daily. We host the platform on our server, but Matellio has continued supporting us from a maintenance standpoint.
What is the team composition?
We’ve worked with about five people from Matellio, including an Android developer, an iOS developer, and a web developer. Our main point of contact is Puneet (COO), and we’ve also worked with a QA specialist and the graphic design team.
How did you come to work with Matellio?
We found Matellio online and scheduled an initial video call. During our conversation, they seemed interested in getting the product right, which gave us a sense of security. We realized they were good people who meant business, so we moved forward with the engagement.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve invested roughly $120,000 in the partnership with Matellio.
What is the status of this engagement?
We’ve been working with Matellio since July 2021, and the partnership is ongoing.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Matellio has done a great job so far; the app is functional, and they’ve gone above and beyond to deliver on their promises. The team has closely monitored the app to ensure it operates as requested. Users have shared overwhelmingly positive feedback; they’ve specifically commented on the app’s simplicity and ease of use.
How did Matellio perform from a project management standpoint?
Matellio has consistently delivered work on time, if not ahead of schedule. They’ve always worked within our budget. They’ve been patient, responsive partners, and we’ve been pleased with their willingness to help us outside regular working hours. The team has shared valuable development expertise and guidance and even encouraged us to get a second opinion.
Furthermore, whenever we’ve shared user feedback, the team has implemented it immediately; they’ve been very invested in giving our users the best possible UX. We’ve mainly communicated via Zoom.
What did you find most impressive about them?
I’ve been most impressed by Matellio’s precision and timeliness. They’ve consistently exceeded our expectations, and they’ve never made excuses. The team has gone above and beyond to make us feel secure, and we’ve come to trust them implicitly. Matellio has become a reliable, trustworthy partner who we’ve enjoyed working with.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I have no complaints about Matellio; I just want them to continue working hard and dedicating themselves to our project.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
I recommend you go for it; hire Matellio, and don’t look back.

How did Matellio perform from a project management standpoint?
They’ve done a good job of meeting deadlines and staying within budget. Moreover, their project manager is a very good communicator and continues to make sure that everything keeps moving forward. We use Jira to manage tasks and communicate via Zoom, email, and Microsoft Teams.
What did you find most impressive about them?
We’ve been very impressed with their project manager and the breadth of their resources. Whenever we have a specific need involving different technologies, we don’t have to look anywhere else because they already have people who can handle it for us.
Are there any areas they could improve on?
No, they’ve done a great job.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Make sure to have a clear definition of your requirements, and don’t change them.

Matellio has helped a software company create their iOS, Android, and web-based platform from scratch, using SQL, Java, and AWS as the technology stack. Currently, they manage ongoing support and updates.
Thanks to Matellio’s work, the client now has an amazing platform, and they’re close to rolling it out to over 1,000 different agencies across the US. The team is responsive and communicative, and they deliver on time and on budget. Additionally, they take ownership of projects to make them succeed.

client over the phone. Below is an edited
transcript.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the CEO of a company providing software for the criminal and justice systems.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Matellio?
We needed help with developing our mobile and web-based software.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Matellio has developed our iOS, Android, and web-based application entirely from scratch. This app serves to gather any sort of information regarding arrest tickets, domestic violence assessments, homeless assessments, supplemental forms, and more.
Additionally, it has a backend database that contains all that information, as well as an entire data analytics platform integrated within it. Using our app, we have the ability to share that information with multiple agencies and different stakeholders. Among other features is the ability to send referrals and email notifications.
As for its technology stack, our app is hosted on the AWS government cloud, and it uses SQL and Java as part of its technology stack. Currently, Matellio assists us with its management and ongoing updates. They also offer app store optimization and other marketing services, but our scope of work doesn’t require those services.
What is the team composition?
We’ve worked with a dedicated development team from Matellio of around 10 individuals, including account managers, iOS developers, Android developers, web developers, and QA engineers. Additionally, we’re in communication with their CEO.
How did you come to work with Matellio?
They had done software development for a private equity firm that we’re very close with, so this firm referred us to them. We also interviewed 5–6 other software developers, both on-shore and off-shore. However, Matellio’s past work was outstanding, and their price was the most competitive one, so they provided us with the best offer.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent around $250,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in January 2015, and our engagement is ongoing.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Matellio has developed an incredible analytics platform that we can expand upon to jump into whichever verticals we want. Thanks to them, we’ve entered a partnership to roll out our software to over 1,000 agencies in the US. Overall, they’re a fantastic company.
How did Matellio perform from a project management standpoint?
Matellio has met our deadlines and budgets every single time, and they’re very responsive and good at what they do. They treat projects as if they were their own and take a lot of pride in their work. For example, they’ve been on calls with prospective and existing customers, and they’ve helped our new clients install our software. Basically, they now act as our IT department.
Matellio is also very communicative. We’re seven years into our engagement, so we’ve done 250 different calls, multiple different PowerPoint presentations, documents, and scopers of work, and we’re currently on our 28th statement of work. We communicate via Zoom and phone calls, and we exchange around 20 emails per week.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The fact that Matellio treats projects as their own is outstanding; they truly want to see their clients succeed, and they strive to create long-term relationships.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No. I’m 100% satisfied with their work.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Communication is key. Ensure you understand what you’re trying to accomplish and consider all the different options. Matellio is very good at asking open-ended questions, and they’re always thinking about all the possibilities and different complexities.

Matellio was contracted by a quality management services company to design and build custom software. They built wireframes and designed the platform from scratch using Adobe XD.
Matellio was hired to design and build custom software for the client. However, the client canceled the agreement due to pricing inconsistency before the development stage. Although Matellio implemented the client’s feedback, they managed the project poorly and failed to address concerns adequately.

BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m an executive for a quality management services company.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Matellio?
We engaged Matellio for a custom software development project. We wanted to build an internal reporting platform to help us run day-to-day operations.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
We planned to lay out our business idea for the software, so Matellio could move forward with designing and building the platform from scratch. First, we shared our requirements for the wireframes, designs, and UX. Then, they built the wireframes and delivered the designs using Adobe XD.
What is the team composition?
We worked primarily with a project manager and some designers.
How did you come to work with Matellio?
We found Matellio on Clutch. We were impressed with their reviews, so we contacted them for a meeting. After discussing the project scope, we went through two months of negotiations, and Matellio submitted a design and development proposal within our price range, so we moved forward.
How much have you invested with them?
We invested $27,000; $15,000 for design, and $12,000 for the first development stage.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked with Matellio from December 2021–March 2022.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
How did your relationship with the vendor evolve?
The project started out fine, but we ultimately wasted a lot of time and money working with Matellio. The team delivered the wireframes and designs, but we canceled the project before reaching the development stage because we were having issues with the team.
Before Matellio started working on our project, we met with them daily to talk through our goals for the software and how we wanted it to function. After that, the team submitted a design and development proposal, and we began negotiations. I spent a lot of time negotiating with the team up front and explaining the concept for the software, and they quoted us $60,000–$80,000.
Their initial estimation was within our budget, but when we started working on the project, they changed the pricing for the development stage. Instead of charging us within the range that we agreed upon, they wanted us to pay $140,000 for the development stage.
How did Matellio address the challenges that arose?
After Matellio changed the development price, we met several times to try and come to an agreement that was closer to their original estimate. The team offered to reduce the price by a few thousand dollars, which wasn’t enough for us, so we canceled the contract. Since I paid for the first stage of development up front, and they didn’t complete the work, I was expecting a refund but have yet to receive one.
Describe the impact this engagement has had on your business.
Although we received the designs from Matellio, they weren’t up to par with our requirements, and we had to go through multiple design iterations with them. We’re using the designs they created with a different development partner now, but I still feel the partnership was a waste of time and money overall.
How was project management handled?
We worked with three different project managers and 2–3 designers during our engagement. The constant turnover caused us to have to repeat ourselves and work through several design iterations with Matellio. They used Jira to manage the project.
Is there anything that the vendor did well or that you would consider a strength?
The designers from Matellio were always willing to implement our feedback, which we appreciated.
In what specific areas can they improve?
Matellio can improve by addressing their management issues. Working with the management team was terrible; they completely disregarded our agreement and the time we spent scoping the project. When we brought up our frustrations, they only communicated with us via email, and I had to address the same issue with 7–8 different people. They only cared to address our concerns in a meeting once they noticed us start to pull out of the project.
What advice do you have for clients with similar needs to yours?
There are much better companies out there that can address your needs better than Matellio. If you choose to work with them, be careful where you put every cent, and keep track of the project from the beginning.

Matellio developed a mobile app for a nonprofit organization. The app was for both iOS and Android platforms.
The app was launched, and stakeholders praised Matellio’s ability to stick within their budget throughout the engagement. The team delivered a great app that required minimal adjustments. They used Jira to manage the project well and communicate with the client, resulting in a fruitful partnership.

BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the senior director of the National Organization for Tardive Dyskinesia, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Matellio?
We hired Matellio for their development services.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Matellio handled the development of our mobile app. They assigned a team of developers to us, helping us flesh out the app, which ran on both iOS and Android systems.
What is the team composition?
The team was composed of Shweta (Project Analyst) and some developers. Shweta was our main point of contact, and she directed the team to help us implement any changes that we wanted.
How did you come to work with Matellio?
I had a good friend who developed an app, so I asked him if he had any recommendations and what development company he used for his project. He spoke highly of Matellio, saying that they were truly reputable. They also came at a fairly affordable rate for him, and he felt that he received his money’s worth. That was when we started working with Matellio.
How much have you invested with them?
All told, we spent around $30,000–$31,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
The project took about a year to finish; we worked with them from February 2021–February 2022.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We haven’t gotten any reviews on the app yet because it went live only about a month ago. However, we measured success in the way the Matellio team worked within our budget. They didn’t go over our budget, and that was crucial to us. They were truly cognizant of how much money we could spend. For context, the project was funded by two of our sponsor companies, and we had a set limit on how much we could spend.
Meanwhile, during the beta testing phase, we needed to iron out some things, but we didn’t have to make any real corrections — everything else worked well. When the app finally went live, we had done enough testing that it performed as we expected.
How did Matellio perform from a project management standpoint?
Matellio’s communication was great. Shweta was fantastic and professional. She truly went above and beyond our expectations and definitely stepped up to the plate. She kept things flowing — whenever I was bogged down or took a while to answer things, she always maintained constant communication to ensure the project kept moving.
We had frequent meetings on Teams, and we also used Atlassian tools, specifically Jira. These tools helped us communicate with them any of the changes we needed to make as the development unfolded. We also used phone calls and emails.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Matellio was highly specialized in mobile app development, so the resources that worked with us were truly impressive and talented. They did their jobs well.
Are there any areas they could improve?
They could have steered the beta testing phase a bit more and encouraged us to send out the beta test to other people to get their feedback about it. Looking back, it would have been better if we had a bigger pool of beta testers. The project would’ve turned out slightly different.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Stay engaged in the process and use the tools that Matellio provides or recommends to make the process flow better. For context, I didn’t use Jira as much as I should have; if I did, our process would be a bit better.
