Introduce your business and what you do there.
I work for Pelican Commerce, and we're a migration company. We help companies re-platform from old systems to modern systems like Shopify. We also help them retain their existing SEO so that they don't lose their organic search traffic, which is very important for businesses to generate a lot of revenue. We go through the whole process as a full-service company to help them get moved to Shopify in full.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with LitExtension?
Shopify requires an API to move transactional data, and a lot of our customers have been requesting this for many years. To give them the full experience for migration, we teamed up with LitExtension to bridge our entire service so we can pull over transactional data for businesses that needed it.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
We connect our clients to LitExtension’s system to get all of the data points for products, customers' orders, and other content. We also make sure that all of the SEO elements are in place and bridged properly on the other side. Then, we take our portion of our service and enhance the migrated information even further.
The team’s deliverables are to map out the product data, collections, content pages, images, customers, and orders into Shopify.
What is the team composition?
We work with an account representative and several other people from LitExtension.
How did you come to work with LitExtension?
We worked with one of LitExtension’s competitors and had a lot of problems with their service and communication. We were searching for a better solutions provider, and when we contacted the LitExtension team, they were able to do a lot of the different things that we had problems with. They solved those problems too.
We started our first project, and it went smoothly. As a result, we’ve continued to work with them.
How much have you invested with them?
We spend around $100 or higher per project. We’ve probably invested several thousands of dollars in their services.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with them in January 2020, and the partnership is ongoing. We do dozens of projects per month with them.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
LitExtension has added a lot of value to our business and projects for the consumer. Our customers like that they're able to invite their own customers to all existing orders, and it helps their team jump to the modern system without losing the history that they had on their existing platform. It saves them a lot of time.
How did LitExtension perform from a project management standpoint?
Part of LitExtension’s system is self-service. We can work with our account representative if we need any enhancements or changes to the data. Most of the time, that works perfectly.
In a case where we have a more complicated migration requiring a more hands-on custom mapping of data points, we go through their premium service. They then connect everything. We essentially use a ticket-based system. In some cases, we do private chats with our account representative, and then they offer their premium service to handle the migration for us.
What did you find most impressive about them?
There are only two main providers in the space for automated migration services. What sets LitExtension apart is that they're able to pull over images and data in a cleaner way and with fewer errors.
They can also do custom mappings without getting into expensive custom development. As a result, we think they're superior in their space. LitExtension is less expensive than their competitors, and they have a very sharp team.
Are there any areas they could improve?
LitExtension can enhance the data points that they natively take care of for Shopify. They can make them more native to the self-service portion of their business so that fewer projects need to go through their premium service.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Potential customers need to be open-minded about the fact that LitExtension works only on the data portion of the project. They need to understand that the team isn’t setting up the entire store. They're doing the data transfer while setting up all the main parts of the system so that they can go in and put their design in place. They then wrap up other store settings to launch a Shopify store.
