What was the scope of their involvement?

With my solution, merchants can provide loyalty programs, do advertising, and give discount offers and promos using a smartphone. Users can create and send gift cards to their friends and check their points right on their phones. This eliminates the need to have reward cards for individual merchants.

I provided iProgrammer Solutions with a business requirement document, and then they delivered all the IT services. In the next phase, they’re going to implement customer service features provided by the merchants that allow customers with them.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They were halfway done with the project after just a month and a half. They’ve provided the functionality I wanted, and the app is now in the final stages of the last test run. I plan to beta test in the market next month and launch the product next year.

They’re always on time and available to respond, and I haven’t had to bring their project manager in to resolve anything. They’ve done exactly what they agreed to when they agreed to—and it’s all trackable.

Our company was just starting out, so we had no website or plans. We needed a partner that could work with us closely and compensate for our limited technical abilities, developing our system from the start. Our web platform is the tool used by brokers to work with customers, so it's a complex solution.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

iProgrammer Solutions developed our platform. It's used by brokers working with customers in the field. They write support plans on-site, including the money which customers have coming in and going out.

Our site's users are referred by clients, which is done through custom dashboards. The information is sent to a network supervisor who assigns it to brokers. The supervisor has its own dashboard and workflow, while the brokers have different dashboards as well. This is sensitive information, so data protection is very important. The customers build plans and pass them on to quality assurance people, who process it through their own dashboard. When this is all done, the data is sent back to the referrer for approval. If customers wish to share their plans with anyone, they can do so via email, from within their application.

iProgrammer Solutions initially assigned one developer to our project, but we're using two resources at the moment. We had designers and project managers working from our side.

iProgrammer Solutions was recommended to us by someone who had used them. We took the referral as the only option, as far as I'm aware.

Since we've been working with iProgrammer Solutions for so long, it would be hard for me to estimate the total cost. We agreed upon a rate for the initial development, which was split according to milestones. We're currently paying for two developers and a supervisor on an ongoing basis.

We started working with iProgrammer Solutions around 2011. The site project is still ongoing, and iProgrammer Solutions has also built an e-learning portal for us. Our main site has evolved a lot since the early days.

We've had around 3,000 customers on the site, and have processed a large amount of money through it.

iProgrammer Solutions has generally performed well. We've worked with several developers from their team over the years, but I can't think of any occasion when iProgrammer Solutions let us down or any missed milestones.

What did you find most impressive about iProgrammer Solutions?

Everyone at iProgrammer Solutions talked about our project whenever we met them in person. We've worked with other developers, who always acted as if they were doing us a favor. iProgrammer Solutions has wanted our site to be good and took ownership of it.

Are there any areas iProgrammer Solutions could improve?

There have been occasions when communication could have been better. Whenever we brought it up, it was fixed.

We needed to find a design and development partner.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The design portion was also outsourced to other companies, but we've mainly worked with iProgrammer Solutions on both fronts, with development being handled exclusively by them. Business analysis, marketing, as well as project and product management were handled on our side. One of the good aspects of working with iProgrammer Solutions is that we didn't interact with a single point of contact, but rather with the whole team. We have worked jointly on projects, even though they are based in a different city. We also visited each other's offices.

The first application developed by iProgrammer Solutions was for customer care. It featured 50–60 screens and had integration with more than 40 backend APIs. It was initially developed as a hybrid app, but we felt that native versions were more suitable for our customers. The conversion for Windows Phone, Android, and iOS took around two months to complete.

iProgrammer Solutions has developed around five enterprise applications for our channel partners. They've also worked on a mobile wallet project with us, which eventually served as the basis for a separate company. iProgrammer Solutions continues to provide development for that project.

How did you come to work with iProgrammer Solutions?

We started off by evaluating several partners. One of iProgrammer Solutions' founding members was part of the same network as one of our senior people. We evaluated them along with some major app developers. iProgrammer Solutions had one of the most cost-effective offerings, and we felt that their team could work in an Agile manner along with us. We didn't want to have added complications with large development cycles and approval processes. Using a smaller company would provide much more flexibility. In the end, the decision paid off.

Our first project with iProgrammer Solutions had a cost of 300,000 Indian Rupees [US$4,500].

We started working with iProgrammer Solutions in February 2015. The first live application was delivered in August. We have an ongoing engagement, using dedicated developers from iProgrammer Solutions.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

We have over 10 million users for the application. On the Google Play Store, the average rating is 4.2 stars, and it has steadily grown as we improved the user experience and features. The average ratings for only the last 5 months have been 4.5 stars. The negative feedback we've received is typically unrelated to the application—users have commented on things like network signal strength. We have also seen requests for additional features, but there are some limitations on our backend system, which isn't attributable to iProgrammer Solutions.

How did iProgrammer Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?

We've found it important to maintain a constant engagement with iProgrammer Solutions' team, and not just leave the work to be done over a period of six months. This is true for any partner. We have fortnightly reviews in order to track our progress.

We haven't faced any challenges with iProgrammer Solutions. When one of their resources becomes unavailable in the middle of a project, iProgrammer Solutions' management makes sure that there is a handover, and that the team is properly staffed. One of the new team members was not as productive initially as we expected, so iProgrammer Solutions replaced him and didn't bill us for the work.

iProgrammer Solutions' way of engaging with clients is beyond that of a development partner. They are a uniform team which has made us feel like a part of the process. iProgrammer Solutions made sure we were welcomed and felt like a part of the family whenever we visited them.

Without constant engagement, iProgrammer Solutions' team will tend to slip up a bit. Organizing themselves better and providing more proactive communication from their end would be an improvement. iProgrammer Solutions is working on this.

I’m the founder and CEO of iTraveller Technologies Pvt Ltd. It’s a travel technology platform with a booking engine that allows users to come online, plan their holiday, customize it, and book it. We have been around for 5 years and have a team of 40 based in Bengaluru, India.

What challenge were you trying to address with iProgrammer Solutions?

We have a booking engine that’s an automated platform where, as a user, you can create, customize, and book online. In order to create and do that, we had a small team internally for the product development. Our technology team consists of nine people, but there were occasions where they would all be heavily loaded and not able to finish things on time. All of us would not be the best team to do the right things when it comes to the performance and scalability in current standards such as the hygiene of coding. We are more internally focused with only looking at our product.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Before we started working with them, we had been working for the past five years on a product in desktop version. But at the end of the day, the product is not something that starts at one point and then remains as a stand-alone. The product we had five years back is not current anymore; it gets multiple features added on a daily basis with added patches every 2 weeks. It has evolved so much that we saw it transition into a new version.

Later on, we added a mobile app, which was done with the help of iProgammer Solutions. Our contribution in creating the mobile app was limited to APA internally within the team of iTraveller. In that way, new things keep coming up one way or another.

We wanted to allow our users to come online, customize their holiday, and book it, but there are also stories behind the screen. What you see on the website serves to engage the users that are coming and booking a trip online. But at the same time, who is going to facilitate that? Who is going to take care of the rest when they travel? That required another software that’s more like an ERP [enterprise resource planning] platform, which runs in the backend over an automation platform model over 2 operators. iTraveller was able to frame that, which allows you to customize and book your trip.

How did you come to work with iProgrammer Solutions?

I came to know of iProgrammer Solutions before we actually started working with them. It was through common connections of friends. Architecture is something that we needed to work on for the long-term roadmap of the product. We started getting involved and engaged in the architecture part first, and then it took another six months’ time to start working on another project. We didn’t start off by just giving out a project and having them get the stuff done. It was more about engaging and figuring out how we could complement each other. They also help us in being more outward-focused by adopting the best-in-class standards in regards to how we should better manage the servers, how to optimize it, and how we can manage traffic. The architectural input that one can get from a group like iProgammer Solutions helps us a lot in solving problems sooner than later. These are the two reasons why we started working with them.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started around the end of 2013, which was when we got first connected. For the first 8 months, we got to know each other but didn’t work together. In 2014, we started engaging in an informal manner, more in terms of architecture education than product roadmap. In the end of 2014, we started working on some of the new things we were doing on the desktop. In 2015, we started working on the mobile app.

Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?

Out of the traffic of who is coming and landing on the site, we have seen our engagement increase up to three to four times. If I look at the numbers in the years 2012 and 2013, we had a 3.5% conversion ratio when it comes to the users coming to our site and engaging on the screen. They were substantially low conversion ratios. Currently, it stands at 25% on an average for 2016 and onwards. That’s almost about an eightfold increase in terms of how the users engage.

How did iProgrammer Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?

In almost all the engagements we had, we had one person that was the point of contact. For the mobile app, there would be at least one lead Android developer, one QA specialist, and one architect. We also had a data application written in the mobile app, so there was also a data application developer.

A good part of the interactions was with that point of contact. We used to have a call every evening at 7 PM during the peak development time. Calls went down from three to two to once a week. The communication was done formally through the point of contact, but there were occasions where we had handshakes between developers on our end and the Android developer from iProgammer Solutions.

What did you most impressive about iProgrammer Solutions?

If there was one reason why I would work with them over any other equally good company, it would be because of the overall exposure that they have in terms of bringing their best practices and standards. Anybody can write a code, but the hygiene of the code is to be ensured as most important. I’m sure that people within my organization might not be the best guys because they probably have a limited view of things.

Project management is one of the most important pieces, but that is a given. Between other companies and iProgrammer Solutions, I would choose iProgammer for the other part of it and not project management because I would assume that project management is taken care of across every company.

Are there any areas iProgrammer Solutions could improve?

They have a little bit of a lead time. That’s probably a challenge that all tech companies are facing. You don’t get the candidates quickly to join. For the amount of time they take in adding the resources and kicking off the project, it can be better managed if they maintain a bench. I don’t think they have many resources on as a bench. If you have 20 or 30 people in the organization and use floating resources more, they will be able to take up new projects to peak. In our case, we had to wait for almost 25–35 days to start the project. That was a delay for us because we were running short on time.
