Project Overview:
As part of our ongoing support to regulated industry clients (Aerospace & Defense, Medical, Automotive), our company—an IBM Gold Business Partner—is leveraging Inventorsoft’s development capabilities to enhance and extend IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management (ELM) solutions.

Inventorsoft will provide a skilled development team to support the following two primary workstreams:

1. No-Code / Low-Code Development Initiatives
Goals:
Accelerate delivery of internal tools and customer-facing utilities by leveraging no-code and low-code platforms.
Reduce dependency on traditional development cycles while maintaining compliance with regulated industry requirements.
Empower domain experts and business analysts to create prototypes and operational tools in a governed framework.
Activities:
Evaluate and integrate low-code/no-code platforms compatible with IBM ELM.

2. IBM ELM Widget and Extension Development
Goals:
Extend the capabilities of IBM DOORS Next Generation (DNG), Engineering Workflow Management (EWM), and Engineering Test Management (ETM).
Develop customer-specific widgets and browser extensions to improve usability, automation, and compliance monitoring.
Maintain full compatibility with ELM version updates and IBM-supported APIs.

Design, develop, and test widgets using IBM’s Extension API (based on JavaScript, HTML5, and Dojo).

The project was quite complex and required timeline shifting. They also responded to my needs and found a way to overcome specific challenges (ie. dynamic real-time data calculations, view formats, etc). Overall, InventorSoft delivers within the time range you specificy as long as your project requirements stay consistent.

I’m an executive at a SaaS company that creates systems for international entities. Our core product is a data catalog that runs on the web and enables customers to curate services for their data sets. We also offer a metadata registry and develop specialized tools for data management.

What challenge were you trying to address with Inventorsoft?

We’re a small company, so our development team needed assistance from outside contractors to answer our end clients' requirements.  

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Inventorsoft assists us with our end clients' development requests. When we receive a feature request from an end client, we discuss each feature’s design requirements with Inventorsoft and create a task on our Jira board. We break the task down into work units and assign a responsible developer to each task. The feature goes into a code pipeline, and if it’s successful in our tests, it then goes into a main code base. 

We’re test-oriented, so when we first started working with Inventorsoft, we created functional tests to measure Inventorsoft's work. We’re also used to documenting our development process and sharing that documentation with Inventorsoft. 

Inventorsoft has used different programming languages, including Java, JavaScript (JS), and Groovy. They’ve also used AWS for hosting.

Moreover, Inventorsoft has helped us develop features for our data catalog. We have a system that allows us to analyze any data set, classify it, and store it. Users can also download a specific data set, read the description, see its content, search for specific data criteria, and consult the data set's original source.

We work with three teammates from Inventorsoft, including a deployment engineer, a Java engineer, and a JS engineer. 

How did you come to work with Inventorsoft?

We initially started working with one of Inventorsoft’s developers and found them through Upwork. We posted our project’s requirements, interviewed a total of five developers, and decided from there.

We’ve invested around $40,000–$50,000 with Inventorsoft.

We started working with Inventorsoft in April 2022, and our partnership is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Since we started working with Inventorsoft, our client base has doubled in size. Inventorsoft has contributed to maintaining a good relationship with our end clients. 

How did Inventorsoft perform from a project management standpoint?

Inventorsoft is agile in fixing any bugs or issues within their coding. Their communication is great, Inventorsoft is responsive through Slack, and we also use Skype and Google Meet for meetings. 

However, Inventorsoft’s project management isn’t so great. Some of their developers meet deadlines, and some don’t. We use Jira for project management.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m most impressed with Inventorsoft’s responsiveness and expertise. We had a bad experience with a previous service provider because they never addressed errors. Inventorsoft always answers our concerns. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

We’re located in a different country than Inventorsoft and speak different languages. Although Inventorsoft’s general communication has been great, there have been times when not everybody from their team understands our projects' requirements. We develop specialized software, so every teammate involved in the project needs to understand. That’s the only thing I think Inventorsoft could improve on.

Make sure you’re clear about how you’ll test your project’s requirements.

Inventorsoft’s team delivers everything on time and within budget — it’s been a fast process with no delays. Moreover, working with them has been very comfortable because our daily communication is great, and we can reach out to our dedicated team lead anytime via Slack and Zoom. Inventorsoft’s team is based in Ukraine, and despite the Russian Invasion, they’ve been nice, communicative, and available to our needs.

We found them through an online hiring marketplace.

They work in a daily basis with our team to build the web app using Java and React. We work mainly through Slack where I can quickly and easily coordinate the changing objectives. They are very self-sufficient, we only meet when necessary and many days we don't need to meet at all. They do a great job of predicting issues and solving them early, as well as giving suggestions and feedback to improve the app.

How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

We work with 1 frontend developer and they also have a wonderful project manager that can help with long term planning.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We haven't launched the app yet so we don't have any measureable outcomes at this time, but overall they are extremely easy to work with, and the quality of their work is excellent.

Slack, Jira, Github and the core ways we communicate. They also do a great job of meeting with other team members when necessary, including scheduling meetings to solve critical issues in a timely manner.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

We have direct access to the frontend developer and he is intergrated into our team communication channels in Slack which makes coordination very easy. Their project manager is also very helpful when we have questions about more complex long term objectives.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

We have no complaints! Quality work, timely, cost effective, easy to communicate, overall we are very happy that we found InventorSoft at the time we did.

I’m the director of technology at Luzern Solutions, an e-commerce provider. We build websites and set up Amazon, eBay, and such marketplaces.

What challenge were you trying to address with InventorSoft?

We needed to add two skill sets to our team: coding with .NET and microservices with Node.js.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

InventorSoft provides us with two resources, one to work with .NET and one with Node.js. The .NET developer is part of our platform team with 4–5 other internal team members. Then, we have microservices, which have to do with business units, and the Node.js developer is working on some of them on his own and others with a senior developer.

Currently, they’re helping us build a wide range of things. We don’t generally do projects set in stone; the team works on tasks as they come up. 

What is the team composition?

We currently work with two people from InventorSoft. We started with one Node.js developer who moved on from the project, so another person took his place, and we later hired our .NET developer. I’ve also had contact with Maksym (CTO).

How did you come to work with InventorSoft?

My brother has a software company; he’d been getting developers from InventorSoft for several years and had a good partnership experience. He recommended them to me and got us in contact with Maksym.

How much have you invested with them?

So far, we’ve spent $100,000. We pay them $30 an hour.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in June 2021, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We’re pretty happy with InventorSoft’s work. They provide us with two very talented developers who do what we ask and do it well. Their involvement has increased our team from six to eight people, and we’re really going through the work with their help. We don’t work with time estimates; the work is done when it’s done, as long as it’s completed properly.

Although they don’t know our business that well, that’s natural; external people won’t know everything straight away. However, the learning process is coming along, and we’ve had no issues. They ask the right questions, and though there have been a few bugs to fix, that’s normal and happens to everyone.

So far, our Node.js developer has completed 70 tasks, and the .NET developer has 24 completed assignments. We haven’t had any issues with them, and they’ve both been very valuable to our team. Overall, we love working with InventorSoft, so they’ll be here as long as they want to be with us — there’s plenty of work.

How did InventorSoft perform from a project management standpoint?

Both developers work independently and can figure out assignments on their own. We break out tasks for them through a sprint; they pick them up with little information, get something started, and then come back and ask questions later. We use Kanban to manage the tasks.

Although English isn’t their first language, we get by with communication. We have a standup meeting every morning and use Skype and email. Once we’re able to put something down on paper for them, they pick it up very quickly. They also come back and ask questions, not taking anything at face value, which is good.

At first, we had minor issues regarding feedback with our Node.js developer due to our language barrier. However, he’s a lot more comfortable and vocal now. Besides, when we work with him one-on-one, we can tell he’s good, so we don’t mind the communication issues if he gets work done correctly.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I can’t really think of any issues with them at all. They’ve had Internet issues recently because they’re moving out of Ukraine due to the Russian Invasion. Although they’ve missed a couple of meetings, it’s understandable, and I’m sure we’ll see an improvement as soon as they get settled.

They could also advise us on things we’re doing that are new to us and they’ve had experience with. It would be great if they could be proactive and give us tips on what we’re doing wrong. That’s something I’ll be asking them, though.

Are there any areas they could improve?

InventorSoft’s teammates are well-trained; the team has a lot more experience than their CVs would probably let on. We’re doing very early-stage projects and builds with them. Our Node-js developer is only a few years out of college, and he already has an extensive portfolio of projects. They’re better equipped and have a lot more training than other companies.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

My advice is to have daily standup meetings and communicate with InventorSoft twice a day to see how they’re getting on. When giving them tasks, make sure you provide good detail, and they’ll be independent enough to go with it. Also, don’t expect them to know your business straight off the bat or even after a few months — give them time, and they’ll get there.

I needed someone to build a web application for me.

What was the scope of their involvement?

InventorSoft helped us develop our web application. I provided them with very little to start with, but they’ve been very good at coaching us and setting up an ecosystem appropriate for software development. There has been a little bit of training and guidance from their side as well. For example, they’ve taught me how to use Figma and other tools.

The application that they created is a very graphical collaborative workspace. It has a lot of figures, charts, and graphs, and its purpose is to serve as a very sophisticated calculator. The technology stack includes React, Java for the backend, and PostgreSQL for the database.

What is the team composition?

I’ve worked with InventorSoft’s CEO, the head of delivery, a designer, a QA person, one frontend engineer, and one backend engineer.

InventorSoft made my application look very professional, and they did a really good job. The users have received our application very well, too.

InventorSoft has worked with a wide range of customers, and they’re experienced enough to prevent a lot of the downfalls that commonly happen in software development. When starting in software development, inexperienced people can make a lot of decisions that result in significant delays, so it’s important for us to have someone with experience on board.

How did InventorSoft perform from a project management standpoint?

InventorSoft’s project management is excellent. Our communication frequency varies depending on what we’re doing. Sometimes, we communicate daily, but for example, I haven’t talked to them in about a week because they’re busy doing other things. That’s one of the aspects that I like about them; they know what to do, and we don’t have to guide them constantly.

What did you find most impressive about them?

InventorSoft’s strong suit is the experience that they bring to the table. From their CEO to their developers, they know how to work in this space and get things done. They’re also very nimble, proactive, and responsive, and they offer their help when we’re slow about something.
