What challenge were you trying to address with iDeus?

We needed support and staff augmentation services for the technical development of our software. The goal was to take PDF documents received in emails, extract the data from them, and create data packages that we could send to other software systems. This way, we wouldn’t need to manually type the data from PDF and Excel documents received in emails, saving time and improving internal efficiency.

We built software technology with iDeus to automate PDF documents. We initially signed an NDA with iDeus and had a deeper conversation about our tech stack. We showed the team what we were trying to accomplish, and once we felt comfortable, we onboarded iDeus as an early team member. The training was hands-on, as opposed to giving the team documentation to read and review. 

iDeus used Python and JavaScript as the main programming languages and AWS and Azure as the cloud service providers.

We worked with 3–4 core team members from iDeus.

How did you come to work with iDeus?

Our technical founder was familiar with Clutch and had done some work with other service providers found on Clutch. He went on the platform, found iDeus, read a few reviews, and reached out to the team.

We worked together from June 2023–September 2024.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

iDeus' work helped us save money by providing staff augmentation services, probably around $100,000. We didn’t need to hire full-time staff because we could flex on and off their team when we needed additional or less support — this was the key way iDeus helped us.

From a metrics perspective, iDeus helped us acquire our first 5–10 customers. Working with the team was helpful as we tested different things and brought on customers. iDeus' work quality met our expectations for the most part. The core team members we started the engagement with and had the longest relationship with were the ones who were the most helpful.

How did iDeus perform from a project management standpoint?

iDeus delivered the work on time for the most part. We primarily used Slack to communicate and Jira and Notion for project management.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

I want to shout out Denis' work. He was our main point of contact and coordinated the team. His flexibility in meeting our needs was great, especially as things were dynamic. Denis was very helpful.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The entire iDeus team was really flexible. Our priorities as an early-stage startup constantly changed, and it was tough for teammates to deal with change often. However, iDeus did a great job working through the change with us.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Communication with iDeus was a struggle. We had to be very hands-on with the team to know what they were doing and ensure that work was getting done. Having more proactive communication was an area of improvement for iDeus. It would've been more helpful if the team had taken ownership of what they were doing and reached out to inform us of what was going on.

Additionally, iDeus' quality of work was up and down. Some core team members were very good, but others felt junior and didn't have the same expertise — it was hard to get things done.

What advice do you have for clients with similar needs to yours?

Communication goes both ways. Make sure you set a cadence and the expectations of what you want. If you make your expectations as clear as possible, you'll definitely have a successful engagement with iDeus’ team.

The attention to detail and speed of work while maintaining close contact with me as the customer. Overall, great job and swift in their replies and actions.

Are there any areas for improvement or something iDeus could have done differently?

Given the scope and budget I think it is within reasonable margins to just get up and running. But going deep into details regarding unnecessary lines of codes and initial perfromance issues, there were some. But when highlighting these issues, they were resolved.

In conclusions, there were definitely some shortcuts to the development and unless I hade someone with domain knowledge reviewing, I would never have found the issues. But once they were mentioned, they were fixed.

 I’m the co-founder of an e-commerce platform for pets. Our platform includes other lifestyle features and information on how users can grow with their pets.

iDeus has helped us develop our platform from ground zero.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

iDeus has helped us develop an e-commerce mobile app for our business. Initially, we did a small test project with them, and they did a very good and quick job. For this project, I provided them with simple wireframes, and they were able to come back with various options for the platform design. From there, we kept picking the things that we wanted to go with.

The process has included wireframing, MVP development, full-app development, testing, and feature relaunches. Eventually, we've been able to reach a full-scale app, which is now live on the App Store. This app is available for both Android and iOS users.

The app opens up on a map, allowing users to see a variety of different options from animals that are available within their geographical areas. This app also allows users to interact with breeders. Basically, this app takes users through the entire experience, from finding an animal to scheduling an appointment to meet them and eventually continuing the relationship with the animal's breeder.

This product starts as an e-commerce platform, but it then goes into the full experience of animals becoming part of a family. We address a unique area that most people care about, but they don't have the resources or tools to do it right.

What is the team composition?

I've worked with a project manager, two developers, and one designer from iDeus.

How did you come to work with iDeus?

I was looking for a consulting company in Europe. I interacted with 5–10 different ones and shortlisted 2–3, including iDeus. I did the initial small project with all of them, and iDeus was the only one that came through; the other companies didn't give me any results.

It was clear that iDeus not only came through, but they actually enjoyed my idea because it was a bit more unusual than what they usually worked on. Thus, they really cared about the project and put in a lot of effort, something that other consulting companies usually don't provide.

I've spent around $30,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together at the beginning of 2021, and it took us two years to launch the platform. Given that we started with wireframes, the first year was dedicated to creating the MVP, and the second year was focused on scaling and testing the app. The engagement is still not finished. Although the robust part of the development is now done, we'll continue working with them on small feature changes once we market the app and get feedback.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The fact that we just launched a product and got the App Store to approve it is already a big success because they're strict on what they want in their store. Moreover, thanks to iDeus, I'm now focused more on the marketing side of my business, rather than the development side. Still, getting the app into the users' hands has been a lot tougher than I figured out.

User adoption and market penetration are things I have less knowledge of. Moreover, is harder these days for people to have a lot of money to spend. Still, this is not a product I need to work on this year. This is a lifelong idea that I just started working on. If this idea works in the next 5–10 years, it'll be totally fine for me. I'm taking baby steps because I can only do small iterations, which takes a bit of time.

As for qualitative feedback, iDeus' work quality is excellent. I've hired a lot of service providers to develop things for me throughout my career. Still, I'm very impressed by everything iDeus has done regarding design and development. They're also great at working quickly, considering that I'm limited in my funding. Overall, the results have always been above and beyond my expectations.

How did iDeus perform from a project management standpoint?

iDeus' project management is their biggest strength, so we've had no issues in that regard. They're very flexible because I'm sometimes the one who can't meet the deadlines. Overall, they're a great partner to have for anyone who's starting a business. Moreover, their cost has been very reasonable. We usually communicate via WhatsApp.

What did you find most impressive about them?

What makes iDeus very easy to work with is the fact that they always give me options for things that are hard to do, easy to do, expensive, or inexpensive. It doesn't take a single person to do this project, and all teammates from iDeus have been awesome. I've done projects like this a lot of times, and I've also checked the code with other people. Overall, the feedback has been very good.

In addition to that, the way iDeus understands my train of thought and completes my ideas is impressive. I only give them half-cooked ideas, and they always come back with a better version of what I create, which is awesome. Thanks to this skill of theirs, I don't have to give them detailed directions for them to come up with something great. Their team doesn't do just what I ask for; they always do a little bit more, which is great.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There's nothing that iDeus could improve on. They've been flawless, and I couldn't been happier with them. If anything, the areas of improvement are on my end rather than theirs because I initially didn't know anything about marketing and market penetration. Although what they've created might not align perfectly with my current understanding of the market, it has nothing to do with them. They've done what I've asked them for.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

iDeus is a great partner for anyone starting out. When you start a new business, you usually don't know what you're doing; you only have an idea. Still, iDeus is great at providing different options on what they can do with your idea, which is great. It's usually very hard to find a good consulting company, so I've already recommended iDeus to 3–4 people.

In fact, iDeus might not be a suitable partner for someone who provides them with specific directions. Although I'm sure they could follow those directions, they're more open-minded and like to play with ideas around.

Therefore, stop thinking about it, start talking to iDeus, and give them something to do. The best way to start working with them is on smaller projects to get a flow of each other. Once you establish the flow, everything will be easier.

Together with us, they are creating a user-friendly interactive platform that allows users to undertake dynamic resource allocation. With the help of our solution, users may dynamically link resources and tasks to one another and manage them in real time. The work is organized into brief "Complexity Launches," or sprints. 

Every launch has a primary objective and is based off the success of the previous one, thus all requirements must be satisfied in order to prepare for the following Launch. If the launch was unsuccessful, adjustments must be made and the launch must be repeated. It uses mostly JS and the common web development stack as technologies.

We are capable of timely and coordinated development. Without any obvious delays, iDeus was able to provide. Although we are still in the early stages of delivery releases, the project is doing well from a project management standpoint.

Any area can always be improved upon, which is one of the wonderful aspects of learning and gaining experience. It could be advantageous in some circumstances to take a little more time to internally test newly built features, but it is also reasonable that this can cause the commit for the sprint to be delayed.

We were looking for a sizable team of engineers to work with throughout the development process as we created our product from the ground up. The UI/UX design of the application, the implementation of the key functionality, and quality control of the final product were all done by specialists from iDeus as they built the MVP for the launch. 

A personal account, test management, test scheduling, different automation scenarios, real-time analytics dashboards, team management, and even some AI-driven capabilities were already included in the product when it was originally made available to customers. The product is currently being improved with new capabilities while existing features are being refined. 

We want to increase the product's AI-based capabilities in the near future, as well as introduce a number of key connectors with third-party services.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The iDeus team set up our investment platform. They designed it for us and completely coded everything. It was a complex effort since the apps were for both iOS and Android. They used Python and React Native. The team developed the website first and then worked on the mobile apps in parallel. 

At present, we bring iDeus in whenever we need help with our platform, which is quite complex. For context, our platform is an investment system based on a person’s beliefs and values — it’s unique that way. It’s not just a website, and it integrates machine learning and APIs to a trading platform. 

What is the team composition?

We’ve worked with Denis (CEO), but our interactions aren’t frequent. I mainly interface with Ruslan (Project Manager), who’s our main point of contact. Various people come in and out depending on where we are in the process. We’ve also worked with two designers, Python developers, iOS specialists, and Android developers.

How did you come to work with iDeus?

I did research and figured out which developer I wanted to use. I mainly focused on Ukraine and checked 5–10 companies on Clutch. When I chose the first company, I flew to Ukraine and visited them right off the bat. However, they delayed my visit for a week for some reason, so I let them go — we couldn’t play things like that. 

Then, I reached out to Denis. He said they could handle the project and gave us Python developers. They were able to start right away, so we hired them.

We started working with iDeus in February 2018, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

While we don’t have specific metrics for this project, everyone seems to love the website and there’s been no complaint about it. I won’t blame iDeus if we can’t get more people to go to the website; that’s more of the marketing and product development departments’ job. 

How did iDeus perform from a project management standpoint?

iDeus’ project management has been great. Like all developers, they’ve occasionally slipped from the schedule, but that’s not always their fault. Sometimes, it’s ours. Customer requirements might change, or things turn out to be more difficult than we expect. In any case, the team is always great at communicating and working with us. In terms of tools, they primarily use Jira. We also use Slack and emails.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re highly creative and friendly while being professional. Their members are also flexible when it comes to our needs. In a word, they’re a good team player. They work as if they’re a part of our team, and that’s truly important for us. If we encounter any issues, Denis jumps in and helps the team. Overall, everything they do has been professional and accurate. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there aren’t any. Considering our restrictive budget and timeline, iDeus has done a great job. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Have all of your ducks in a row. The more information you can provide to iDeus, the easier their job will be. Moreover, have a true understanding of your products, services, and requirements before you contact the team. These things will make it much easier for them to help you.

We reviewed a few companies within Clutch based on ratings, reviews, familiarity with the technology framework we were planning to use, results of their proposal and "interview", and costs.

They helped with selecting the hosting service and provided recommendation on the overall system and software architecture.

They then developed the solution based on the design we provided; however, they also made several recommendations on how to improve the design from a UX and development effort perspectives.

They became part of our team and help tremendously with improving certain functionality and new features we added to the product along the way.

What was the team composition?

The company CEO was involved from a business and project oversight but we were assigned a PM who was main day to day person. We obviously worked closely with him on a regular basis.

The development team consisted of frontend and backend engineers. We also had a sr. db engineer who helped with the data model. The dev team was managed by the PM but as we are a relatively technical company, we also requested a direct interaction with the engineers,

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The product was developed in time and within the original plan. We were able to test it internally and then in a private beta as part of the original schedule. After the results of these tests, we had enough time to make improvements and add features before new releases a public test.

The bigger impact was the dedication of the team to the project. We truly felt it was an extension of our internal team.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

We used Trello for overall project management and then Jira for task management and bug reporting. We used Skype for calls and texting. The team recommended the tools they commonly used but they were flexible in cooperating with our us and select the best methods for our project.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

It's a very professional firm with dedicated and very capable engineers, PM, and business managers. We've been very impressed with everyone we've interacted. They believed in the product we were building, and that helped our project tremendously.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Some of the engineers didn't speak English but the language barrier was easily resolved by the interaction with the PM.

They provided technical support and expertise at all levels. We provided design sketches and flow, which were then cleaned up by iDeus’s design team. They took a concept and screens and developed them into a hybrid mobile app with a supporting website.

For the majority of the project, I had one point of contact, Ruslan (Project Manager, iDeus). He used his team of designers and developers to build what we needed.

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

We now have a fully functional MVP that has been launched on the Android and iOS stores.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

The process was highly effective. They used systems such as InVision for prototyping and shared bug trackers post-development. Ruslan was responsive on Skype and proactive in asking questions and finding solutions. The team was quick to understand our concerns and problems.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I liked that we were able to get design and UI support where required despite initially looking for a development agency.

Are there any areas for improvement?

There were a couple of areas where development was done in ways which led to additional costs further along the process. That said, I accept that compromise is part of doing a relatively low-cost MVP, and would probably be solved by clearer scoping on our side.
