I’m the CFO of FOCUS Marketing, a company that provides email target marketing services to home builders and apartment owners in about 15 states.

We needed a company that had access to email addresses for adults in the US.

What was the scope of their involvement?

HepcatsMarketing is engaged in a collaboration that operates six large databases. After taking out duplication, they can provide us lists that I can then sell to my customers. They also provide technical support for us. For instance, whenever a customer gives me materials to send out, HepcatsMarketing helps me around the technical issues that come up. 

Moreover, when we have a client that doesn’t have the technical wherewithal to put together an email message with pictures and calls to action, HepcatsMarketing provides the technical details necessary to produce the email content. 

What is the team composition?

I primarily work with two people from HepcatsMarketing. Tom (Owner) is multifaceted, and he has all the contacts and technical knowledge related to the list of providers they have. The other person handles the bookkeeping side of things and makes sure that we take care of all billings. 

How did you come to work with HepcatsMarketing.com?

We found HepcatsMarketing through a referral. 

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve invested around $1 million or higher in their services. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2012, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

HepcatsMarketing has helped our business grow. We’ve expanded our deployments to approximately 90 per month, up from the previous count of 5–6 deployments per month. This is a big number in our industry — each deployment has anywhere between 50,000–1 million email addresses. 

Their expertise is absolutely first-class. Other vendors aren’t usually immediately accessible, but HepcatsMarketing puts me on their priority list. If I call Tom, he gets back to me within 30 seconds–10 minutes. We’ve worked long enough together that they already know our needs whenever we run into problems. Overall, I couldn’t be in business and wouldn’t have done as well as we have without Tom and HepcatsMarketing. 

How did HepcatsMarketing.com perform from a project management standpoint?

The team works in an expedient manner, and their timing is exquisite. Whenever we have a problem, they deal with it right then and there. There’s no waiting time, and that’s unique. Normally, large companies take several days to solve a problem. By contrast, HepcatsMarketing solves our problem within an hour. In fact, it usually takes only 10 minutes. 

To communicate, we almost exclusively use emails. If we need to have a conference call, then we use Zoom. However, calls like that happen only around 10 times a year; the rest of the communication is through emails or phone calls.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Tom’s integrity is unquestionable. He’s not only talented; he’s also honest — brutally so. His goal is the same as mine: to give outstanding customer service and keep it at that level. If we fail for some reason or another, we make sure that we set things right with our customers. If we need to give clients something extra, he rows with me in the same boat. 

On top of that, gets right down to business; he’s technical, but he also has the common sense to know that not everybody understands the jargon that he speaks. He explains things in English so people can understand. In other words, he’s an excellent communicator. He has high energy and serves as a highly positive part of our company. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there aren’t any. We have an outstanding business relationship with them.
