BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the owner of Ayars Complete Home Improvements, an interior home remodeling firm in Mickleton, New Jersey.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Epic Web Studios?
We were trying to bolster our online presence on our website and social media through organic practices such as SEO and proper website optimization. The website had no draw, so we had a high bounce rate.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Initially, our main focus was website optimization. The site was built on WordPress, and we established how it’d look and how to improve it through a planned monthly approach so we didn’t have to make a large outlay or complete redesign. Epic Web Studios suggested the blogs and proper keywords and did some analytics on Google Ads.
We currently exchange information back and forth. We’ve identified our client base and our ideal markets, and they’ve done the research to support us. They ensure it’s a good fit or keyword to try. They also write blogs for us; they give us a topic, and we move forward with it if we say yes. They formulate the blogs with the right components and ask us for photos or collateral on our shared Drive.
What is the team composition?
We’ve engaged with 6–7 people. Initially, Michael (Director of Strategic Partnerships) was our sales contact and project manager, while Rebecca (Former Content Developer & UX Manager) was our assigned project manager and coordinator. She has left the organization, but our dealings with her were always very professional and timely.
Currently, Kari (Director of Digital Marketing) does the Facebook post scheduling and planning, and Matt (Senior Content Developer) does the blog posts — he’s an excellent copywriter. We haven’t engaged much with Larry (Search & Digital Advertising Specialist), but he’s been on some calls and does a lot of the analytics on the backend. On the other hand, we’ve had the privilege of speaking with David (CEO) on one occasion. Since his team does a great job, he doesn’t need to get involved often. However, I’m sure he’d engage in a conversation if we needed to.
Additionally, some technical people step in when we have questions about hosting or specific technical issues. Overall, they’ve all been excellent.
How did you come to work with Epic Web Studios?
We originally found them through a Google search on an article about Google listings. We saw Epic Web Studios, got into their site, and saw they provided full-blown design and content creation. We first reached out because they had a product called ASAPmaps, and we were interested in integrating it into our website. We had an initial conversation with the sales contact, who did a bit of analysis. We discussed it further, and they understood the dynamics of what we were trying to accomplish.
We’d previously reached out to 3–5 firms to get someone that understood our needs, but they were all lacking. Few companies were as professional as Epic Web Studios, so they were a breath of fresh air. We initially wanted to find a local company, but they were able to engage accordingly and put us at ease.
How much have you invested with them?
On average, we pay a couple of thousand dollars a month. We’ve probably spent between $65,000–$85,000 over three years.
What is the status of this engagement?
We first made contact in February 2019, and our relationship is ongoing.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
They provide a monthly sheet explaining the total traffic flow and what’s taking place from a high level. Looking back at our initial reports in 2019, we had about 1,000 users or 1,400 sessions over 90 days in the first months of working with them. Also, we ranked 970 for home remodeling, 820 for home improvement, and 572 for South Jersey contractors in the Google positions.
In contrast, we’ve seen 129,000 impressions and 1,100 sessions monthly on our most recent reports. We’re ranking in the top 15 positions for the same keywords, and we’ve gotten more specific about them, so we know exactly what we’ll target. Therefore, we’re getting precisely the type of leads that we want.
Overall, we’ve been highly successful with the organic side of things, so we haven’t paid for any social boosts through Facebook, Instagram, or Google Ads. We have a tremendous lead flow. Since engaging Epic Web Studios, we’ve doubled our online lead flow and online leads account by 80%–85% for the year. We don’t feel the need to push any further; we’ve reached the quantity and quality goals.
How did Epic Web Studios perform from a project management standpoint?
It’s a win in all the categories. We assign a monthly budget with some flexibility, and they typically honor that approach. They add flow as they see fit according to what’s coming up, and if they have to spend extra time on something, they keep us updated and ask if it’s okay to spend more time in that particular area. Moreover, deliverables are always consistent; they always do what they promise. All in all, everything is very professional.
We have a running tally on a Google spreadsheet where we prioritize what’s next on the list. Most of our documents are shared in Google Drive. We share videos or content for the site, and blogs are posted as documents for us to review. We’ve predominantly used it because we can just create and dump information there, making our lives simple.
Additionally, we communicate via emails throughout the month if anything needs attention. Also, we schedule a monthly meeting to review the SEO report. The rest of our communications are usually through Google Meet and phone calls.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Their biggest strength is their ability to deliver. They have a depth of field in many areas, so they can provide the products and offerings consistently. Since we started our relationship, we’ve never missed a month posting fresh content onto the site. Also, many other firms only have 1–2 people, so they can’t have the proper follow-through. However, Epic Web Studios has a team that allows them to stay on track, which is great.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, I don’t have anything on the top of my mind. I’m sure that they could do things more expeditiously if we opened up more financially. However, there’s good communication, and they haven’t failed at meeting expectations.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Be transparent about what you want to accomplish. You need to understand your business and market and let them do their research to present the solution. Moreover, you have to give it time to work. Don’t expect to turn on a switch; it takes time to build momentum. Give them at least six months or a one-year window to allow things to take hold. In six months, you’ll know you’re heading in the right direction, but timing is key.
