I’m the chairperson of a political organization. Our organization has over 500 volunteers that need to be approved through what we call precinct committeemen.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Asteroid IT?

We needed support setting up our organization's IT needs, including corporate emails and the website's initial structure. We were a new organization at the time, and team members were operating using their personal emails. I wanted to give the organization a more professional look and environment. We also wanted to protect our individual emails and concentrate our organization's communication on one server.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Asteroid IT set up our IT needs and corporate emails. Initially, the team helped us define a website domain name and worked with our communications committee. However, Asteroid IT wasn't responsible for the site development. The team set up our corporate emails so team members would respond to requests through a professional email. 

Asteroid IT also set up our Microsoft Teams account, through which we trained our organization's volunteers. Asteroid IT conducted virtual walk-throughs to set up new volunteers' emails and accounts since we don't have physical offices.

What is the team composition?

We primarily worked with Jason (Owner). He worked with a bigger team, although I didn't know how many teammates Jason assigned to our project. 

How did you come to work with Asteroid IT?

We reached out to Asteroid IT after they were referred to us.
How much have you invested with them?

We spent close to $8,000 on this project.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with Asteroid IT  from January–June 2022. Our main project concluded, but Asteroid IT still offers IT assistance when we need it. 

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Asteroid IT's setup infrastructure allowed us to reach out to over 500 individuals on a weekly basis. We also reached several people through our website's fillable forms. Our Microsoft Teams account was very valuable for us because we trained over 170 volunteers for our last project; we anticipate training 300 more volunteers by the end of June 2024. This was a crucial added feature for us, which Jason suggested. 

Asteroid IT helped me create a plan for my goal and execute it, reaching our organization's goals and vision. We had a fabulous partnership. Asteroid IT was a great company to work with and helped us through every step to reach where we are today. We couldn't have accomplished our goals without Asteroid IT's assistance.

How did Asteroid IT perform from a project management standpoint?

Asteroid IT was very accessible and available. When we asked questions or made change requests, they responded quickly. I often sent Jason emails and text messages late at night, and he would complete my requests by morning. We communicated via phone calls and Microsoft Teams. 

One time, Asteroid IT upgraded their Microsoft Teams version, but our programs weren't updated. We had a meeting scheduled, and when I noticed the issue, I reached out to Jason. He immediately fixed the problem, allowing us to have our meeting as originally scheduled.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

I want to shout out Jason's work. We worked with volunteers with zero or little experience with computers, who said that Jason was the best to work with when he gave walk-throughs to set up their emails or Microsoft Teams accounts — he was very patient. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Asteroid IT went above and beyond and even took care of additional tasks I wasn't aware of. Although we don't have an active engagement with Asteroid IT, I reached out to Jason a couple of weeks ago because I was having a technical issue, and he responded immediately and took care of it. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can't think of anything Asteroid IT could improve.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

I'm a detailed person, and I suggest outlining in an email the different points that Asteroid IT needs to address. I outlined our overall goals and structure setup, and if I noticed something that needed tweaking, I communicated with Jason through an email or text message to ensure there wasn't any misunderstanding about what we needed him to do.

I'm the IT director at a metal manufacturing company. Our company has been around for 100 years and has two large metal factories with 180 users.

What challenge were you trying to address with Asteroid IT?

We needed support with high-end networking, webpage design and updates, network troubleshooting, and support with different software. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Asteroid IT has been my go-to IT company for the last six years. The team has built external and internal websites using Ubuntu. I wasn't familiar with Ubuntu until I started working with Asteroid IT. The team also supports updating, maintaining, and adding new certificates to our websites. Asteroid IT has helped me set up our company's virtual local area networks (VLAN) and program switches. The team also performs security work within our network and helps fortificate firewalls. 

Additionally, Asteroid IT has installed hardware and software and offers remote and on-site services. Asteroid IT helps me via phone, remote help desk, and on-site. The team helps and supports our telephone communications and relationship with our ISP. We upgraded our internet speeds from 20 megabytes to 100 megabytes and then to 1,000 megabytes. The ISP was trying to double-bill us for both networks, and Asteroid IT helped me resolve the issue.

I only work with Jason (Owner). 

How did you come to work with Asteroid IT?

Jason originally worked with one of the companies we work with and produce metal parts for. Jason started his own company, and I started working with Asteroid IT and have retained them for various years.
How much have you invested with them?

Asteroid IT offers an hourly rate of $140, and the team bills me for the time needed. I usually request between 10–20 hours a month, depending on the projects I'm working on. I have IT skills myself and bring the team for system support. Asteroid IT keeps an ongoing tally and is good at sending me updates on the hours we've worked together to manage time. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Asteroid IT in September 2018, and our engagement is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I've worked in computer networking for over 30 years, and it's good to have a teammate like Jason, who has vast industry knowledge. As I've gotten older, I don't have much time to learn new programming and technologies, and working with an asset like Asteroid IT has helped my stability in my company. Our company has grown and prospered because of Asteroid IT's support. When we have an issue in our IT, Asteroid IT is the first contact I call. 

Moreover, our partnership with Asteroid IT has resulted in more business from our existing customers. We have a variety of customers and contracts. 

How did Asteroid IT perform from a project management standpoint?

We communicate with Asteroid IT through text, email, and phone calls. We schedule meetings when we're busy, but the team usually helps me at a moment's notice. I've worked with Asteroid IT for various years and plan to continue using their services.
Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

I want to highlight Jason's work. He's a great person and worker. He's very knowledgeable, a great friend, and a great teammate who has helped me succeed at the business I work at. Jason is a young entrepreneur who is smart and well-educated. Additionally, Jason is an honest family man.
What did you find most impressive about them?

Asteroid IT is a very dependable team that works hard.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I've made suggestions to Asteroid IT regarding their billing process to get better results. The team has created their own help desk system that sends emails and reminders of what they've worked on and accomplished. I can share these emails with my boss to create invoices and ensure Asteroid IT gets paid correctly.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

I suggest creating an inventory of your organizational needs because Asteroid IT is knowledgeable in many areas and might be able to help you with more tasks than you realize.
