A financial services institution hired Applica Solutions to develop a web and mobile app. The goal was for agents to register new clients and generate corresponding PDF documentation.
Applica Solutions failed to deliver the project, which was canceled after nine months of delays. The team provided a Figma prototype for the UX/UI but did not deliver the app. They also failed to provide documentation and ignored emails regarding the project's evaluation and refund.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
Our experience with Applica was nothing short of a disaster. The project began in December 2023, and by August 2024, the only deliverable we had received was a Figma prototype for the UX/UI. This was an incredibly straightforward project, and even their initial three-month timeline was an overestimation. After nine months, with nothing but a design file to show, we had to push them to take action.
It was only in September 2024—nine months into the project—that they finally assembled a development team and delivered a basic testing environment. This environment included minimal functionality: login, user creation, agent creation, agent views, and filters, along with a frontend. However, the implementation was severely lacking:
- The application and web server were not dockerized, only the database was.
- They exposed private keys in the GitHub repository, a critical security oversight.
- Basic deployment features were missing.
As the delays continued, we identified a better approach for PDF generation and requested a roadmap adjustment. Our proposed change would have reduced development efforts significantly—cutting the required work by nearly half—yet Applica claimed they lacked the technical expertise and resources to implement it. It became clear that they were looking for an exit from the project.
Despite their failures, they had the audacity to request the final payment when we had already paid two-thirds of the project cost. Soon after, they unilaterally canceled the project, offering apologies and promising to transfer all assets and documentation while evaluating a refund for the undelivered work.
The handover process was chaotic and took two weeks. While they did transfer repository ownership and Vercel deployment, they failed to provide:
- Superuser credentials to access the application.
- Any form of project documentation, despite repeated requests.
- When we pressed them for a reevaluation of the project’s financials, they ignored emails and evaded questions, making it clear they had no intention of addressing their failures.
Avoid Applica at All Costs
Applica is a disorganized and unprofessional company that took six months to even begin our project and ultimately failed to deliver a basic application. Their technical incompetence, lack of accountability, and disregard for commitments cost us significant time and money, with absolutely nothing to show for it.
I strongly advise against working with this company.
Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?
Did They Deliver Items on Time?
Absolutely not. Deadlines were continuously missed, and the project suffered from extreme delays at every stage.
Initially estimated to take three months, the project dragged on for nine months before any meaningful progress was made.
By August 2024, after eight months, the only deliverable was a Figma prototype for the UX/UI—a task that should have taken weeks, not months.
When pressured, they rushed to assemble a development team in September 2024, a full nine months after project initiation.
Even after this, their development progress was minimal and incomplete.
Responsiveness to Needs & Roadmap Adjustments
Applica’s response to our needs was slow, inefficient, and unhelpful.
When we identified a better approach for PDF generation—a change that would have reduced development efforts significantly—they claimed they lacked the technical expertise and resources to adjust the roadmap.
Instead of offering solutions or adapting, they saw this as an opportunity to exit the project, further proving their inability to deliver.
They repeatedly evaded direct questions regarding project status, documentation, and financial reevaluation.
Handover & Documentation
Even when they decided to cancel the project, they failed to execute a proper handover:
The repository and Vercel deployment were transferred, but superuser credentials were missing, making the application inaccessible.
Despite multiple requests for documentation, they provided nothing and ignored emails regarding the project’s evaluation and refund.
Applica demonstrated a complete lack of project management, accountability, and technical competence. Their failure to plan, deliver on time, and respond to necessary adjustments resulted in a significant waste of time and resources. They lacked transparency, responsibility, and professionalism at every step.
What was your primary form of communication with Applica Solutions?
- Virtual Meeting
- Email or Messaging App
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
In a twisted way, their ability to mismanage a project so completely while still pretending to be professional was almost impressive in its sheer incompetence. If anything, this experience serves as a case study on how not to run a software development company.
Are there any areas for improvement or something Applica Solutions could have done differently?
Applica Solutions' fundamental issues stem from disorganization, poor communication, and lack of technical expertise. They are unwilling to take responsibility. If they want to improve, they need a complete overhaul of their project management, team structure, and ethical standards.
