Advertise Purple's affiliate marketing services have been excellent thus far. Our primary goal was to drive an increase in revenue for the channel, while maintaining our media spend, and lowering our agency costs. Advertise Purple has helped us grow the program incrementally, through keeping CPA's down and introducing new affiliates to the program. They have a great network of affiliates and are always bringing new opportunities to our team, at a reduced cost. They are amazing to work with and we're super happy with our decision to have them manage our Affiliate program!

We RFP'ed 5 agencies and then narrowed it down to 3. Advertise Purple stood out amongst the other agencies, as they were a smaller team who could provide consistent attention and strategy to our account. We have a dedicated account manager, who is always on top of everything for us and is super smart and helpful. They also came at a lower cost than others, so we were able to decrease our fixed advertising costs.

Advertise Purple manages our affiliate program, inclusive of relationships with publishers/affiliates, CPA management, strategy and more. Their key deliverables are not only to manage the program on our behalf, but also grow the program through adding new affiliates to our program, optimizing current affiliates, and ultimately drive growth through incremental revenue.

We primarily work with one dedicated account manager. However, if she's ever out of office and we need something, there's multiple people on their team who know our brand and can step in to help wherever they need.

13% increase in ROAS year to date vs. LY, driving 5% more revenue and maintaining the same spend.

We have a bi-weekly touchbase that's an hour long, where we review priorities, opportunities, etc. They are extremely communicative using basecamp as our tool. We receive monthly KPI reports & strategy decks for upcoming key occasions. They are extremely proactive & available for all of our needs.

Advertise Purple has a wide range of experience with all types of affiliates. They have great relationships with publishers, and are even able to negotiate costs for large package deals. They are also smaller than others I've worked with in the past, which is beneficial in terms of having someone always available to us.

In general Advertise Purple has helped us grow our affiliate partnerships from being non-existent to having several key partners. Once onboarding these partners, Advertise Purple has helped us increase our average order volume (AOV), conversion rate, and revenue per month from our affiliate program. They have also helped us secure several key placements in media outlets such as Men’s Journal and US Weekly.

Our affiliate network grew and so did our revenue. We were introduced to new, innovative commission based advertising agencies, ppc, exit intent, safe opt and more to maximize revenue beyond the standard link click.

Basecamp was an excellent way to communicate. Everyone was attentive and provided us with multiple growth opportunities each week.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

It's a solid partnership. We've worked with many different types of agencies over the years but Advertise Purple was always very responsive to our needs. When our business took a turn, they worked closely with us to assist us where they could help us most. They never pressured us into giving higher commissions or strong-armed us into offers that would hurt our margins and business.

We interviewed several and after comparing them to the other, we chose them based on their cost and their ambitious growth strategy.

We set up our program through ShareASale and Advertise Purple did a terrible job of communication program expectations to our affiliate program partners. You get what you pay for - they are more affordable, but they don't know how to advise strategy that is in the best interest of your company.

Too many, we could never keep the same account managers because the internal reorganization happened every couple of months.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

No, we did not have good success with Advertise Purple because the team was not focused on developing a strategy for our business. They were only focused on driving traffic, regardless of whether there was good match with search intent. There was no attempt to understand our business and drive opportunities that matched our industry.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

They were not very effective at all. They have too many people associated with the communications and nobody can stay on the same page for issues or inquiries.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Nothing - I would not recommend them at all. The most disappointing thing about them is their senior leadership team and their lack of dedication to serving individual businesses.

They need to focus their approach and worth as a partner not exclusively in their own haphazard interests.

Advertise Purple's role is to market our brand to affiliates, to carefully select the right affiliates for our program, decide whom to approve based on keeping in concert with our product, brand and culture, to continuously market our brand and program to affiliates, creating new sales and marketing opportunities, negotiating the right financial relationships with affiliates, etc.

Our day day to day account manager Savanah works very closely managing our program. However, her account director, and numerous others, dozens of team members in fact, are all part of the process as they grow our affiliate platform, advocate on our behalf, negotiate, manage the program, etc.. They have a very robust team, with many people supporting our efforts.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Yes, since we launched our platform five months ago, we've seen steady growth month over month, every month. Even in a challenging month like August, we've seen steady growth. We've already reached our first performance threshold in terms of additional sales from our affiliate program meeting our basic overhead for the program, I consider that a success on top of reaching new customers and bringing new sale and customers.

Very effective. Advertise Purple is on top of everything. Very timely communication, very responsive to questions, While we have a meeting scheduled every few weeks, if anything comes up in the interim, they are on it, make time for additional calls and zooms, etc..

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

When I first reached out to them and was considering the program, they provided excellent data for me to consider in our space, that being the beauty space, and among similar peer companies. I had great data to work with, we knew what we were getting into, what it would cost, what the realistic results may be in the near term and long term. They really know their stuff. Once we launched our program, as you can see from my other responses, we're very happy in terms of their ongoing performance delivery results, they are a pleasure to work with.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

No. We're quite happy with how Advertise Purple is building our program. I cannot offer any suggested areas for improvement at this time. To me, based on our Company's experience working with them,. they are definitely a best in class company, probably the best in the affiliate marketing industry.

The timezone difference with account managers working in the USA and us being in New Zealand is sometimes difficult with no responses for a few days sometimes.

After beginning to work together, we selected an affiliate network and setup tracking through our website. The team put together an outreach program to court the right affiliates and work deals that penciled the best for us.

From there, they manage our affiliate promotions through various affiliates each month to secure various placements on websites, email campaigns, etc. We get real-time reporting through there interface.

I’m the owner and director of OM Planet. I’m in New Zealand, but I have an international team of freelancers in different parts of the world. Most of our sales come from the US followed by the UK, Canada, and Australia. We have a global reach as we also sell in Europe and Asia.

What challenge were you trying to address with Advertise Purple?

We were having a good run with Facebook and Instagram ads, so I aimed to increase the channels through which we sold our products. In other words, I was trying to diversify my marketing channels, and I hired Advertise Purple to help me do that. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Advertise Purple handled a part of our affiliate marketing effort; another provider was handling another part of our affiliate marketing program. However, the same products ran at the same time for both the Advertise Purple team and the other provider. 

What is the team composition?

I was in contact with two people from their team, including Tim (Business Development Manager). 

How did you come to work with Advertise Purple?

Advertise Purple approached us by email and said they had experience in our vertical, telling me they could do well in affiliate marketing. In fact, they claimed their affiliate marketing services usually ended up being the second-biggest revenue generator after Facebook ads, and that was what I wanted to hear. As a result, I hired them. 

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $6,000 on the project. They offered the initial contract at $2,500 per month — which I paid in advance — with a 60-day termination clause. They said they’d also take 5% revenue above a certain threshold of our spending. 

Then, their sales representative reduced the fee down to $2,000 per month and the opt-out clause to 30 days. It was a better offer than the initial one, so we agreed upon it. 

What is the status of this engagement?

Our engagement lasted from November 2020–January 2021.

How did your relationship with the vendor evolve?

I was optimistic about the engagement and wanted it to work. However, we generated no sales after the first month. I gave them the benefit of the doubt since they said the program usually took time to develop. Meanwhile, they didn’t give me any KPI that I could latch onto, and their responses were vague. 

Then, the second month came around, and our revenue was only $42. I told them this was unacceptable, and their response was the same as before. At this stage, I already paid $4,000 for the first and second months; I was also up for the third month. 

For comparison, the other affiliate marketing program I was self-directing was getting hundreds of dollars in revenue per month. That program ran the same products as Advertise Purple did. Their resources wouldn’t give me any logical response to that despite having a whole team of people working on their affiliate marketing program. 

Eventually, I told them I wasn’t willing to continue on these terms — I was taking all the risks while they delivered no results — so we needed to renegotiate. At that time, they also charged my credit card for my third month’s fee, and that didn’t sit well with me. I felt robbed, so they refunded that last payment. Then, they said they weren’t interested in renegotiating our contract.

How did Advertise Purple address the challenges that arose?

When I tried to make some adjustments to the terms and conditions, Advertise Purple decided to terminate the engagement. They did that even after telling me that my business had potential and would generate results in the future. When I asked them to share the risks with me if they truly believed in my business, they refused. In a nutshell, the engagement seemed like a big waste of time. 

I could see that they’d done the same thing with other customers due to the way they set up the contract with a long opt-out time. On top of that, when I signed the contract, they gave me a credit card authorization form that let them charge me whenever they wanted. That didn’t make sense because I already paid in advance. 

Moreover, I decided I should leave a review about them. I jumped on Trustpilot and did that. Then, Advertise Purple sent me an email saying they wanted to get on a call with me about the review and sort the issues out. However, I told them there was nothing to discuss — I was no longer interested in their services. 

To be transparent, I asked them to refund the payments I made for the first two months of the engagement in exchange for the review’s removal. They agreed, so I removed the review. They said their solicitor would release the funds to me. However, days went by with no communication from them. As a result, I republished that review. This time, they replied by stating I was demanding a high sum of money from them to remove it — that wasn’t true.

Is there anything that the vendor did well or that you would consider a strength?

Advertise Purple was excellent at sales talk, but they weren’t good at delivering their promises.

They should deliver what they promise. 

What advice do you have for clients with similar needs to yours?

If you’re planning to work with Advertise Purple, I’d advise you to look for another marketing agency.
