It's a great website to use for someone who isn't very familiar with website building but wants an online platform for their personal or professional uses. Make sure you have a clear picture of what you want from your website, so you're not overwhelmed with all of their available themes, but recognize you cannot have exactly what you want since it is predesigned to a point.

Experience:

The places where I worked and the class projects I worked on required me to use WordPress.com. At times, WordPress.com limited you in design and alignment. For instance, I had trouble arranging columns the way I wanted them to look. I use SEO tools, scheduling of posts, media management, e-commerce plug-ins, and social media widgets. I had a mostly positive experience with WordPress.com, I did find it pretty user-friendly and appreciated that. Especially, since I used it for my first online endeavors, I found it usable, and it also explained anything I did not understand. It also met all of my needs.

Pros:

Being so user-friendly was a huge positive. Also, all of the available plug-in features make allow for a seamless website. All of the available styles and looks available on the website are also great. You can really personalize your website with WordPress.

Cons:

Sometimes because of how user-friendly the website it, it limits designs and what you can do on your website. For instance, alignment and positioning is relatively set.

Keep learning how the blog works, and post on a regular basis, and if you have more than one blog, keep notes of each blog and how it works in case you need to remind yourself how it works.

Experience:

I had written and self-published a book, and started a half dozen blogs in which I would post general interest articles that I thought would interest people who are open minded, counterculture, and politically interested, feminist articles, and then, every 20 or so posts, I would post the link to my book's url on Amazon. I have a WordPress blog, and so most every day, I post things that the news and my e-mail contacts send me. It was easy to set up the blog; in fact, I set up two, so I could decide to which site I would post and which article I would send to which blog. It took me a while to figure out how to take a URL and insert it into the blog. One part I don't like is that I have to wait until I am all done with the blog before I insert the link, because if I insert it and I need to add something, it will make the link disappear. So, I figured out either to wait till the end or cut and paste the link onto the text area, then go to the chain link on the toolbar and insert it. I learned how to save pictures using the media button up on the toolbar, so that I could have choices in the blog media area, but I still could click on the 'add image from computer' and find another picture to add to the media library. I also added a feature so that the blog can automatically send the post to Twitter, Tumblr and Google+.  I didn't have to cut and paste the URLs for those sites. I wish I could add more auto posts. At the end of the blog, there are buttons you can click on to send the post to places like Reddit, Stumble Upon, Twitter, and again, I wish I could add more share buttons for sites like 'share this' or 'add this,' but so far, I can't figure out how to add the widget that would allow me to do this for more blogs I want to post to. I would like to learn more about that. So, either the post would auto post, or I could go down to the bottom and click on the buttons to post the blog to other posts. I use tags, categories (had to learn how to add new categories), mood, where the blog is located, how to save as draft, how to publish, and then go to view blog to see how it looks and to get the URL to post on other blogs. I am slowly getting followers but not as many as I have on Twitter.

Pros:

Now that I know how it works, it's easy, and it helps by auto-posting to Twitter, Tumblr and Google+. It helps expose people to my blog posts to gain followers, and to post about my book.

Cons:

There's some issue where the link disappears if I add anything in the text area, so I have to add the link last so it doesn't disappear.

I think that people should pre-plan everything that they're going to do before making a big decision about making a website. I think that they should consider what they can afford in making monthly payments.

Experience:

My main goal was to spend as little money as I could. I chose the Business plan, which provided me with my own custom domain name, unlimited themes, email and live support, etc. I have unlimited themes in case I ever want to change the layout of my website. I have my own custom domain name, so people can easily search and find me there.

Pros:

I like it because it's cost effective and provides me with great benefits that will help me expand my business.

Cons:

I think that they should invest in more themes and more customization for designs.

Make sure you have a day or more to build your website, and don't rush. WordPress has a lot of options and features and is a great tool. It also provides a lot of customization options making the buidling of a website a bit of a process. The process however greatly benefits the website.

Experience:

I chose WordPress as my website builder because I had the option to post my portfolio/gallery updates as a blog. This allows my customers to see both old and new work without having to look at it over and over again. The only "issue" I found was a lack of layouts/themes that I found appealing. I use all or almost all of the features offered to me by WordPress. WordPress makes it easy to go back and edit posts I have already published. I love this feature as I often go back and read prior posts I have made and notice small errors. I also love that I can view which people visit my website the most, to better assist me in ensuring a maximum number of customers are reached.

Pros:

Easy to use, simple, cost effective, and I can use my own domain while still using the services WordPress offers.

Cons:

More themes catered to photography.

If they are looking for something easy to use and cost-friendly, this is definitely the route they should take.

Experience:

For starters, I love how the coding is open for everyone to use and modify as they please. To be able to create our own themes/plugins is awesome, and on top of that, it is free or can be purchased if you would like. I pretty much use all the features. It's free and super easy to use. It's your own data. You are in full control. You can upload and use plugins. You can upload custom themes and modify theme files (not just styles) if needed. You can make money from it by using your own ads and doing things your way. You can use custom analytics and tracking.

Pros:

I like everything about it.

Cons:

Have not run into anything that I dislike at the moment.

Do your homework, read up, or perhaps enlist the instruction of someone a bit more familiar with using WordPress because it will make your hands-on, personal experience a lot easier, and you will definitely benefit and get the most out of all you can do with WordPress.

Experience:

WordPress seemed to be the most sensible solution based on my level of experience with building websites. Overall, I found it a bit time-consuming, but in the end, I was pleased with the result. I especially liked how easily I was able to customize and organize content as I wanted along the way. I used my site, which was fairly easy, but some of the more advanced features were difficult to navigate. I use the blog and form builder as well. So far, I have a simple and still-evolving website, which is fully functional, and I am still adding to it and customizing as I gain better comprehension of how to get the most out of WordPress.

Pros:

I love the seemingly never-ending optiions to customize my content and connect with my customers, and I especially like the blog features. It's great to get that kind of customer interaction and hear what people have to say.

Cons:

I wish there were more simplified options for those of us who aren't well versed in coding and website building.

I would tell them to do research like I did. I really learned a lot, and I don't think I would have even built a site without that information and the tips.

Experience:

When I was researching platforms to build my site, I came across a few sites who used WordPress, themselves. I felt comfortable with that and the fact they went into detail on how to go about starting your own blog on WordPress. I use just about everything, but mostly the SEO tools to manage my traffic. It has performed well; my site is as professional as I hoped it could be for my experience, so it has been really good.

Pros:

It is an easy tool to learn, but yet, you still can make a serious website and achieve what you had hoped.

Cons:

I feel that for beginners, they could go into better detail on how all the features and tools work and what is the point of using them.
