Feedback summary:

The web application is still used as the code is high quality and continues to be good. They handled the project well, with good organization, communication, and execution of all elements, though it would be beneficial to expand the team to improve their capacity to scale.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the founder of Structweb, and also the director and product owner.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Woopa?

We needed a web application developed.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They were responsible for the frontend development of our web application and they made sure that it worked. They did a lot of content work involving modern technologies, mainly based on JavaScript, jQuery, HTML5, CSS3 [Cascading Style Sheets], and extended web technologies. They guided the process through the project management and actual development of the application.

It’s an online social platform. They enforced a lot of nonstandard UI [User Interface] elements. We gave them the designs and they implemented them. There were no boundaries from a technological point of view for them. They were able to always get the complicated stuff on the screen.

What is the team composition?

I work with 3 people from their team.

How did you come to work with Woopa?

I knew the founders and had worked with them before they started Woopa. I encouraged them to start the company.

How much have you invested with them?

Around $50,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from 2014 until 2016.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I found the engagement to be fruitful. They’ve always done a great job. It’s always challenging to get everything done quickly and on time, but they always did their best to get the job done while maintaining high quality.

We still use their code and the quality is of a high standard. I’ve always been happy with the results in terms of planning, communication, and the quality of the code.

How did Woopa perform from a project management standpoint?

We always received good hourly reports. They had a project management tool and we used SPNs [Service Principal Names] and book tracking tools. Everything was in place at that moment. We were also a very small company and they had a professional team in place to guide this process well. It was appropriate for the phase and for the type of scope we required.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’ve worked with freelancers in the past and communication was often lacking or the quality wasn’t that good. With them, it ran smoothly, which was a big plus.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could be more flexible. It’s difficult for them to scale up if we have a request because they’re pretty busy, so it might be difficult for them to supply all their clients’ requests. Recently, we had a minor question and they didn’t have the capacity to answer. It’s good for them to be so busy, but it’d be nice if they’d be able to scale up in the near future.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Try them out. Make it clear what you want and make clear appointments with them. I’m sure you’ll get approximately what you want. The work may depend on who you work with. It’s good to find out who you are accepting to work with from their team.

Feedback summary:

The apps meet the needs of the company perfectly, working far more efficiently than their previous system. They worked hard to understand the business and the scope before embarking on the development, ensuring they explored all available options. They communicated well and kept to the schedule.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

Bunge is a multinational company with assets all around the world, dedicated to the agribusiness. I am part of Bunge Conosur, with assets mainly in Argentina’s ports, plants, and soy mills. My position is logistics vice president.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Woopa?

We needed our system building, which is basically a website. The system manages our quotes and all the actors involved in our chain processes. It’s a wide reports system so you can see the status of each element in the chain.

We also needed a web app for the operator to check the status of different systems on a tablet, for example, their history and maintenance status. That information is stored so that we can coordinate replacements, new purchases, and so on.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

I know mobile apps were developed for both projects, suitable for Android, iOS, and the website system. I know they used a modern system and the best tools for each case. They were ranked very well from our systems area.

What is the team composition?

We interacted with 4 people, though there may have been a bigger team involved. Technical matters were specifically managed with our IT staff.

How did you come to work with Woopa?

They came to us to offer their services and we asked for some references. They came recommended, so we selected them over 2 other companies. We trusted them as we saw a lot of commitment from their side, even from before the project began. They spent time studying what we needed.

How much have you invested in them?

The two projects came to approximately $110,000–$120,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together more than a year ago, I think about a year and a half or 2 years ago.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They invested a lot of time in conducting an effective analysis of all the variables before the project, to make sure that the platform would be efficient and that unexpected problems wouldn’t arise. That proved to be key after we started implementing the system.

There was a positive impact from the work they did. We are used to systems that have a weak understanding of what the user needs, and then problem emerge, which means we take a long time to be able to solve them. Instead, they used tools that were perfect for this particular project. They gave us the results we were expecting.

How did Woopa perform from a project management standpoint?

There were some delays because they had to merge our systems and the IT staff which made that project slower, but that was on our side. We couldn't provide them with the interfaces they needed on time.

They had a specific and well-established schedule from the start. We had periodic meetings in which we analyzed technical matters, checked up the schedule, and made adjustments. There was a good communication, through email and through the informal communication in our offices to follow up on the project development.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were great with how they studied our specific needs and tried to not to leave out any details. They checked out all possible alternatives, which I thought was outstanding. It’s common to do such a deep analysis. They studied how the system worked before starting to develop it, so the solution is excellent and made them stand out to us.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

They are very professional and will use all the required tools to do a great job. We were contacted by another multinational dedicated to agribusiness who was about to hire them for a similar project and I recommended them as a great choice. I don’t know how they work with companies in different sectors, in ours they are great.
