Kono.bar digital menu service for restaurants
Kono.bar d.o.o. is leading regional distributor of digital menu for hospitality industry, and an official supplier for Coca-Cola HBC Serbia.
Over the past three years, we have been developing highly advanced and extremely versatile digital menu which can be custom tailored for each individual client.
Service is already being utilized throughout Serbia and Montenegro in food and beverage establishments, as well as hotels and resorts. Displays containing QR codes used to access KONO.BAR digital menu are present on more than 25,000 restaurant tables and hotel rooms, which makes it the most widespread service of its kind in the region.
Unlike majority of digital menus which were developed as a response to ongoing Covid 19 pandemic, KONO.BAR service was launched in year 2019 and it is constantly being upgraded. It's features and functionalities are superior to most similar services in the market today.
Kono.bar is browser based application and is available on all mobile devices without any software installation.
Using their mobile device, customers scan QR code on a stand, sticker, placards, etc. When menu opens, they can:
- choose menu language
- view categories, select items and place them in cart
- send orders
- send additional requests or instructions
- request invoice with pre-selected form of payment
- call waiter or send message to staff
- order delivery or takeaway from any location
Clients can conduct surveys trough digital menu and they have access to analytics. They are also able to sess advertisiment positions within digital menu to companies whose products they feature in the menu, thus offesting service cost.
Project is developed with Python and React, and it is hosted on Microsoft Azure cloud.

We provide digital menus to restaurants and hotels worldwide. I'm senior account manager.
For what projects/services did your company hire Web Labs Ltd., and what were your goals?
We had a startup idea for digital menu service, so we hired Web Labs to build a project from the scratch.
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
One of co-founders has already developed another project with Web Labs earlier.
Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.
They developed web based service with 2 backend application and 1 front-end application. Software is hosted on Microsoft Azure servers in Germany. First they have helped us to create product structure, than they have created design. After approval of design they have started with programming. In spring 2019 MVP was finished and we launched the project. From then we are constantly developing and upgrading the service.
How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
There are 5 persons in the team: project manager, two backend senior developers, front-end developer and designer.
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
Even our MVP was technically ahead of competition. This helped us to became absolute leader in this niche with near 1000 restaurants in our database and we close a deals with companies Coca-Cola, Heineken and Carlsberg.

We have direct day to day communication, since we are in the same building. For project management and communication they are using Jira, Confluence and Slack.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
We are most impressed by flexibility and scalability of the software. Due to contracts with big companies, expansion of our network was huge in some months with very tight deadlines. With their support and work on simplifying onboarding process, we accomplished everything with ease.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
Sometimes their developer was to eager to find technically the best solution, but we don't have time for that so we need to speed them up.
