Subsequent campaigns are successful thanks to the groundwork set by WANT Branding. They were on top of the entire process and were easy to communicate with. The collaboration was marked by efficiency and effectiveness.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

Our organization includes three television stations in New England. I'm the vice president of marketing and branding.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with WANT Branding?

We were trying to find a brand voice for each of our three stations. We wanted a team to help us define the personalities of each.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They assessed our current position, which included what we put on the air, our promotion, and our marketing. They did some survey work and conducted an audit of the three stations and the competitive landscape that we work with. Once that was completed, they presented a summary of all their findings, and we began cultivating the voice of each station. We had a one-day seminar, which included all our stakeholders. We gave them feedback and went through a day of exercises to help us polish our brand promises and tone.

We already have our logo and branding materials, so the scope was fairly specific. The most important contribution was a detailed summary of the identity of each station. That helped us decide how to write copy and market each of our holdings.

What is the team composition?

We worked with a team of about three people.

How did you come to work with WANT Branding?

They were referred by a company I worked with previously.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent just under $100,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started at the end of 2017 and ran through the summer of 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We had a successful campaign at the end of last year. We can attribute that success directly to the groundwork they set. I wouldn't have seen all the challenges we faced without their assistance, and their contributions were instrumental to our marketing.

How did WANT Branding perform from a project management standpoint?

They were always on top of things and got back to us. They provided us with schedules and completed everything on time. We usually communicated via phone and occasionally through Skype.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Other firms like theirs often want to make sweeping changes without explaining the groundwork. They explained their market research thoroughly and pointed out niches where we could fit within that landscape. Their research and analysis were much better than other agencies.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They did everything I expected and did it well.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Have a good sense of what you hope to solve. If you have clear goals, they'll be very effective and efficient. Show them your assets and your market and the process will run smoothly.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m a director at a golf association.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with WANT Branding?

We hired WANT Branding to create a name for a cloud-based service we’re trying to launch.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We described the tool and some parameters. Using WANT Branding’s techniques about different types of names, we chose several from each category before submitting to our leadership team for final approval.

What is the team composition?

We worked with two of their team members.

How did you come to work with WANT Branding?

Our marketing director provided a bunch of names as we were contemplating the brand for this product. After researching and several conversations with a few companies, we decided that WANT Branding would be our choice.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent between $20,000–$30,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with WANT Branding between June–August 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Feedback internally has been positive. WANT Branding delivered a name we love. As soon as we clear a few hurdles for the product’s launch, we will be employing the name we chose.

How did WANT Branding perform from a project management standpoint?

WANT Branding stuck to the schedule. During the summer, it’s hard for our internal group to meet because of championships. But through calls and in-person visits, we were able to get a consensus and make decisions based on that.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I appreciated the breadth of choices we were afforded in various categories. This was one of our first forays into naming a technological product, so it was nice to get an idea of the landscape before journeying ahead. We had the luxury of choosing from descriptive and inventive names.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I don’t think so. We enjoyed our experience with them, which resulted in a name we liked.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Customers should research beforehand to get a better idea of what they want. The process can be overwhelming but in a good way. If you have an idea of what you want, you can steer and provide more direction for their work.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

We are The Alonso Brothers, a piano duo based in New York City. We perform around the world playing classical and Cuban music on two pianos with symphony orchestras.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire WANT Branding?

We hired WANT for strategic guidance on building and positioning our brand.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to create a company brand that reflected the aesthetics of the music we perform. We also wanted to establish an online presence at the highest possible level with a well-designed website and targeted email campaigns. Finally, we also hoped to generate compelling titles for our recording projects, music festivals, and musical productions.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

A colleague recommended them.

Describe the scope of their work in detail.

I spoke directly with WANT’s president, who was open to our ideas and receptive to our goals from the beginning. Together with his team, he listened to a series of recordings we had sent him to get better acquainted with our music. They then conducted a few brainstorming sessions and conference calls among themselves that resulted in a number of highly successful brand suggestions and ideas for website design and concert promotional materials.

WANT Branding continues to serve as our ongoing brand consultants, assisting with projects such as designing and developing a music website for our company and artists; designing a template for our Mailchimp campaigns; designing flyers and posters for upcoming concerts, festivals, and productions; and produce titles for upcoming albums.

What was the team composition?

We work with the company president and various members of his team.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We are more than satisfied with the collaboration. Our website is beautifully designed and easy to navigate, which makes it appealing to both our followers and our regular presenters. The design for our concert flyers has been used by several venues, often selected over their own in-house marketing ides. Naming our upcoming album has enabled us to secure sponsorship and distribution from a major record label.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Since we have a standing engagement with them, we meet periodically to discuss our projects and upcoming events.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They are incredibly versatile. Not only do they have the innate capacity to understand our personal needs and our company's ethos, but they are able to use that information to produce a perfect representation of who we are through a brand, website design, or an album title.

Are there any areas for improvement?

No, we could not be happier.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I'm the VP of strategic communication for a business aviation company. We're one of the leading suppliers of corporate and private aviation support for individuals and organizations.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire WANT Branding?

We were developing a flight crew staffing app, and hired WANT Branding to help us create the preliminary brand and marketing strategy.

What were your goals for this project?

We needed to develop a world-class brand and a unique identity for our app, setting it apart competitors and reflecting the sophistication and quality of our offering.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We did preliminary research online to find a pool of highly regarded branding agencies in New York City. After establishing that pool, we met with five agencies for interviews. We felt that WANT Branding would best deliver our specific objectives.

Describe the scope of their work in detail.

WANT Branding developed the name and logo for our app, established a brand identity, and created a preliminary marketing strategy.

What was the team composition?

I worked directly with their managing director and lead designer.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Although our app hasn't launched yet, we're confident that their work will give us a distinctive, compelling brand identity that will capture the attention of the industry.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The workflow was fantastic. Our initial instincts were correct: we enjoyed working with their team, and they gave us the personal attention and dedication we wanted.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

More than anything else, I was impressed by the intelligence of everyone involved. They weren't interested in superficial solutions that didn't hold up to scrutiny or achieve our objectives. They were smart, thoughtful, dedicated professionals. The team knew what they were doing and genuinely listened to our needs. They answered those needs with smart, creative work.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Their communication and responsiveness dropped off toward the end of the project, after the bulk of the work was done. I would have liked to see more consistency.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I'm the director of marketing at NetAlly.  We design and manufacture handheld test equipment for testing computer networks. Our target customers are network engineers or network technicians, and we sell to enterprises, educational institutions, and municipalities.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with WANT Branding?

We were in the process of breaking off from a larger company. We were a small business unit within that company and while we were selling to very similar customers, our product portfolio was radically different from that of our parent company. Once we became a standalone business, we wanted to concentrate on our target customer and the messaging that would work best for our market segment. We needed a vendor to help us create a new brand.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

First, WANT Branding gave us a questionnaire to learn about our preferences. Then, they created a logo and helped us develop a brand identity. They built an identity guide for us, which includes the look and feel of our brand and templates that we can use for our collateral, our website, business cards, and other literature. The identity guide also specifies the rules on how to deploy the brand and properly use branding color schemes and fonts. They've also helped us with the brand rollout.

What is the team composition?

We mostly worked with Bruno (Senior Director, WANT Branding) and Jonathan (Managing Director, WANT Branding).

How did you come to work with WANT Branding?

We were looking for agencies in the greater Denver area that focused on branding. We were considering five other vendors, but we liked the fact that WANT Branding had experience with tech companies. We also liked the examples of their past work, so we chose them.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about $25,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with them from October 2018–January 2019.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We go to market through our global channel partners, so the identity guide is essential for us– we can give it to our channel partners so that they present our brand in the correct way. WANT Branding established a very good process, which limited the number of iterations we had to go through and gave us the desired outcome quickly. We'd definitely work with them again.

How did WANT Branding perform from a project management standpoint?

I was impressed with their responsiveness and flexibility.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They do high-quality work and have extensive experience in technology. Also, they were easy to work with, so it was an enjoyable process.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can't think of anything. I was pleased with the process and the result.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

They combine a large-agency experience and talent with a small-agency attention they give to their clients.

The updated name is now more representative of the growing company as a whole and has been warmly received within the industry. The WANT Branding team provided valuable information and clarity throughout the process and prioritized developing a satisfying final product.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CEO of a 3-D printing company focused on creating lighter, more attractive medical accessories than the typical fiberglass and plaster options.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with WANT Branding?

We gave ourselves a name to get the process started, but it ended up not being representative of what we were trying to achieve. I tried to come up with a new name, but I’m new to the branding process and didn’t make much progress. We needed WANT Branding to find us a name that’s memorable and embodies our mission.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We had an initial round of brainstorming on our overarching goals for the name, the length, etc. From there, they came back to me with the first round of names, none of which we liked. They took our feedback and went back to the drawing board. We weren’t thrilled with any of the options in the second round of names, so we worked with the CEO to further define what we were looking for. After this, we chose one of the new options they presented, and they began the researching process. They vetted the name for its trademark ability and gave us the background information on all companies using similar names.

What is the team composition?

We worked with Celeste (Brand Consultant, WANT Branding) and Jonathan (CEO, WANT Branding).

How did you come to work with WANT Branding?

We looked at around a dozen vendors on Clutch, as we wanted to work with the top-rated providers. It was also essential to us that they had experience with larger corporations because we plan on becoming nationwide within a few years. We interviewed several companies and conducted video conferences with each, but WANT Branding seemed to be the most forward-thinking and experienced.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from August to October 2018.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

As the project only wrapped up a few weeks ago, we don’t have specific metrics at this point. However, they helped us streamline our business model and achieve clarity in our process. Now that we have a name, we were able to acquire the website domain that mirrors it and launch our new brand. Additionally, we’ve been to two trade shows in our industry since WANT Branding helped us pick the new name, and we’ve received many compliments on it. We feel confident in our final choice.

How did WANT Branding perform from a project management standpoint?

Their team was available throughout the whole process to provide clarity on their options and mindset. We had frequent phone calls and video conferences for them to explain their steps and contribute strong insight, from both a logical and emotional standpoint. They considered our feedback and reviewed their progress with us after each step.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were never discouraged when we didn’t give them approval– they were motivated to find the perfect name for us. Their team was consistently willing to take our feedback, go back to the drawing board, and come up with dozens of options until we were satisfied. They never tried to steer us in one direction to finish the project quickly— they were dedicated to finding the right choice. WANT Branding did a great job in every area.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Even after going through multiple rounds of options and not identifying with most of them, I was satisfied with the entire process.

Please describe your company and your position there.

I’m VP of corporate marketing & brand management at Protect Plus. In addition to consumer packaged goods, we have a portfolio of restaurants and other service-based businesses.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire WANT Branding?

For more than a year, we've been struggling to name a new restaurant that will open in the southeast region. The restaurant is scheduled to open within the next 90 days and our management team has been unable to arrive on a name that everyone can agree on.

What were your goals for this project?

We were looking for a thoughtful list of names that could clear the trademark process.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

I considered 6-10 agencies but chose WANT Branding because they understood our goals and had the same sense of urgency that we felt. It was clear during the interview process that their team clicked well internally, but also had great chemistry with my internal decision makers.

Describe the scope of their work in detail.

After providing a project summary document for my approval, they provided a list of names for discussion. They originally promised 20 names but came back with more than that. We went through the presentation and gave them feedback, which they used to provide a second round.

What was the team composition?

We worked with several of the agency’s creative staff throughout the entire process.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

WANT Branding took us through a very structured process of consideration in less than two weeks. We struggled on our own for a year, churning through hundreds of names. With their help, we were able to pick a name and quickly start the trademark process. We needed their team to be the voice of reason to aid us in making a decision.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

They were mindful of my timeline and the amount of other work on my plate. They touched base regularly, but not to the point that it was too much or frustrating.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I was most impressed with their sense of urgency, creative inspiration, and immediate understanding of our goals for the project. They were very easy to work with, and they blew me away with their ideas. The most challenging part was narrowing down the list because they provided so many great options.

Are there any areas for improvement?

I was pleased with the experience and would highly recommend them. My only concern would be whether they'd want to work with us again because our team isn't the easiest.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

Kork empowers consumers to control their data and receive compensation for its use. I'm a founder and the COO.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire WANT Branding?

We hired WANT Branding to help us pick a new name.

What were your goals for this project?

Our goal was to pick a short, memorable name that made sense for our business.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We found WANT Branding by searching the top naming companies. We considered five or six companies and individuals. The deciding factors were quality of work, price, and the fact that the founder seemed to understand that our name was extremely important.

Describe the scope of their work in detail.

WANT Branding began by interviewing me and my co-founder. They also sent us a questionnaire with questions about our values and the types of company names we like. We answered, made a follow up call about our answers, and received a list of possible names. They presented another list of names based on our feedback, but the name we chose was on the first list.

What was the team composition?

Between one and four people worked on the project, including the founder.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

I love our new name and have received a lot of positive feedback from friends and colleagues.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

It was extremely smooth. We worked well with WANT Branding.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I was impressed by their ability to communicate and understand exactly what we were looking for.

Are there any areas for improvement?

No.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the former vice president of marketing and communications at a destination marketing organization. We focus on five different cities in northern California.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with WANT Branding?

We were looking for an overarching strategic point for all of our outgoing communication materials.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

WANT Branding came up with a tagline for all of our materials and established pillars of communication that would flow under that main message. This entailed meeting with our stakeholders and partners to grasp the challenges within our market.

What is the team composition?

I worked with Jonathan (Founder & CEO, WANT Branding) and Bruno (Senior Director, WANT Branding).

How did you come to work with WANT Branding?

I met Jonathan in 2001. After seeing his work through the years for other companies, I decided it was time to bring him onto a project.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent $20,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from January–March 2015.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

I really enjoyed working with WANT Branding. They did their best to determine our communication needs and delivered a fresh perspective to an old problem. Plus, they were obsessive about trying to please us.

How did WANT Branding perform from a project management standpoint?

Both of them were extremely responsive and willing to please. I never felt like I was left in the dark. They were diligent about all the work they provided for us.

What did you find most impressive about them?

While you can see the differences in their skill sets, the two of them work well together. Jonathan has always been an impressive person. He is always trying to raise the standards in everything that he does, which reflects in the finished project.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No.
