We prefer to support local businesses and had seen and heard great things of Vivid Colour Studios.

The track was was sent to the company with a description of the type of stock samples I was looking for. I wanted to prove, that with the right expertise stock samples can have a wonderful effect. The company interpreted my description perfectly and with just 6 very minor changes the video was completed.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The video has not yet been released. It has however, been played to a number of business professionals who have requested Vivid Colour Studios contact details and also permission requested to be played at a wedding ceremony.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Extremely good. No fuss, instructions well interpreted and timescale was more than acceptable. 4 emails in total.

How did you select this vendor?

Vivid are local to us and our paths had crossed previously. We liked Jay and Ben and were confident they could do what we wanted.

Describe the video(s) and the process in detail.

We met with Ben and Jay and discussed what we wanted and we brainstormed ideas together and they offered their advice and expertise to help us manage the process, eg how to manage the timetable so that the day ran smoothly. We booked in our clients according to a day we could all do and we notified Ben and Jay. Ben and Jay organised everything technical at their end and advised us to give our clients questions to prepare for.

On the video production day, Ben and Jay arrived early and set up and the production day took place. Post production, Ben and Jay compiled the videos and we were able to offer feedback and tweaks and they amended and sent back to us to check. Final videos were approved and sent over to us digitally.

What was your vendors' project management or feedback process?

They kept us fully informed at all stages and came back to us promptly, even out of hours, with answers to any questions or queries we had. The feedback process was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. The whole process was stress free and productive.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We haven't yet marketed our website and videos yet but the small sample we have shared with have said how good they are and how much better they are than written testimonials and how seeing the office so professionally is really helpful.

We worked so well together and it felt like they really understood what we wanted. No issues at all. Just positive ones!

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their level of responsiveness, flexibility and calm working practices. Everything ran smoothly and what could have been stressful was made really enjoyable. They put everyone at ease.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m an artistic director of a group of choirs called Singing Community Choirs based in North Birmingham. We have five different choirs and a team of conductors in the companies.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Vivid Colour Studios?

We wanted to make a promotional video to market our choir. We needed a five or ten-minute video to sum us up, which could be featured on our website and posted on social media such as YouTube.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Vivid Colour Studios produced a promotional video for us. We had a couple of discussion sessions— first on the phone and then in person. Their team attended one of our rehearsals to talk about the video and view the location of the shoot. We informed our members of the initiative and prepared them with questions that they would answer during filming, which Vivid Colour Studios suggested. Then, their team came to our rehearsals to film. They spent the entire four to five-hour evening with us, filming pieces of rehearsals and interviewing choir members. The video involved a mixture of content: half interview style and half showcasing the choir. Their team also integrated excerpts from concerts and competitions that we participated in.

After the shoot, the process took slightly longer than we’d hoped but their team did a really good job in the end. While Vivid Colour Studios edited the video themselves, I went to the studio a couple of times. We had discussions, building the video together. Their team did all of the technical work but welcomed suggestions too. They implemented all the edits or changes we needed—nothing was too much trouble for them.

What is the team composition?

We worked with two people from Vivid Colour Studios. We collaborated with one person in particular, but two teammates attended the shoot.

How did you come to work with Vivid Colour Studios?

A colleague recommended Vivid Colour Studios. We got in touch and the rest is history.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about £400 (approximately $497 USD) on the project.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started the project in June 2018, and it ended in July of the same year. From start to finish, the video took about six weeks to make.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We were very impressed with the quality of the video. Everything was impressive. Our team was pleased with the product. It illustrates why people should come and sing with us. It’s a good snapshot of our activities.

All of the filming was done on the same day. Their team lost the picture to some of the shots. There were a couple of frames when a person was speaking but isn’t visible. It works because they overlaid other pictures. It was a shame because you couldn’t see the people talking.

Having said that, the video was very good and professional. The quality of the product was excellent. I’m sure we’ll collaborate with Vivid Colour Studios again. Some members who were featured in the videos have moved on, so we’ll have to shoot a new video.

How did Vivid Colour Studios perform from a project management standpoint?

It was a collaborative process; Vivid Colour Studios made sure the video was correct before it was published. Their team was very approachable.

Vivid Colour Studios communicated well and responded by e-mail quickly. Most deadlines were met. In terms of meetings and the day we filmed, their team was on time. After filming, the editing process took a few weeks to finish. It could’ve been completed sooner because we didn’t get the finished product until the end of the summer term.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re a great team that clearly enjoys what they do. Vivid Colour Studios was keen to come and promote the video, which they’ve posted on their social media pages. It’s helped us and them too hopefully. We would certainly partner with them again.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Besides scheduling and losing a bit of footage, no. We were very happy with the finished product.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

This is more from a planning point of view: have a good idea of who you want to speak and what questions you wanted answered. We made those decisions before and gave members questions the week before the shoot, which made filming more efficient. This was a plan Vivid Colour Studios suggested. Talk with their team before the day of the shoot so you have a clear idea of what you want.
