VAIRIX Testimonial - Scott Wallace
"The quality, the integrity, and the transparency of the group was exceptional. Not only have I brought VAIRIX intro four teams, I’ve just added a fifth for a new project that I’m working on.”
Scott Wallace, a technology executive with 30+ years of experience, shares his feedback on leveraging VAIRIX nearshore development teams since 2013 for his different project needs.

CANVS: React and Node development
"Prior to working with VAIRIX, we were in about 15 or so cities. We are in 150 cities now" - Lorren Cargill, Cofounder & COO at CANVS
- VAIRIX provided tech stack guidance for CANVS, an interactive platform company that is taking street art to the next level.
- Our team also led the beta release update of the customer's crowdsourcing platform, with front and backend as key project steps.
- Another of CANVS' projects involved a generic solution developed in React.js which allows different clients to mount a mural map application on their website. By leveraging this solution, any given client can display their respective organization's murals and artist information inside a map which lives on their own site, without having to do any extra development work.

Union Street Media: React Team Augmentation
“The quality of VAIRIX’s engineering work is superb, so we won’t hesitate to work with them again in the future.” - Todd LaMothe, VP of Engineering at Union Street Media.
- VAIRIX helped Union Street Media, a digital marketing company, create a marketing analytics and data visualization dashboard on time and budget.
- VAIRIX provided senior-level React experts who worked alongside the client's existing team on this project.

Supreme Golf: React and Rails dedicated teams
"They're very collaborative, and they offer great benefits to us. The interaction is very important to us, and they take time to explain their process. They excel in all aspects of what we do, and I would recommend them to anybody." - Jonathan Wride, CEO at Supreme Golf.
- Supreme Golf provides the largest tee-time marketplace in the world and is in continuous growth mode. Having collaborated in several past projects, they reached out to our team to help with their development needs.
- Their top priority was adding highly qualified outside teams to help with the maintenance and development of new functionalities for their Ruby on Rails legacy system, as well as working on their new version’s React.js front-end, which allows them to have a completely updated technology stack.
- VAIRIX provided a dedicated nearshore development team of five senior React + Rails developers that helped Supreme Golf scale up and scale out.

MOD: Ruby on Rails e-commerce development
"The platform they built is as important to us as the company itself—without their development work, we wouldn’t exist as an e-commerce site." Cecilia Ulfe, Cofounder at MOD
- MOD is a custom furniture retailer who needed to build a responsive e-commerce web platform which allowed its users to customize their furniture orders online.
- Supported by a state-funded accelerator and working on a tight deadline, they turned to Vairix to help develop and launch their platform. MOD first engaged with a different contractor for this project, but were unhappy with their work as they were not able to meet the project’s requirements. They decided to change contractors, looked around for Ruby on Rails specialists, and found a long-term partner in Vairix.
- For a two-month period, Vairix had a team of two developers dedicated to building the platform along with its customization features, and also addressing problems such as credit card processing issues while taking on any change requests. Vairix currently provides ongoing maintenance support for the finished site.

Sellin: Driving sales to empower small local businesses
Small business entrepreneurs and artisans often struggle with the sales and marketing aspects of their ventures. Mostly focused on goods production, they would greatly benefit from a solution that takes care of creating demand for their creations.
Enter Sellin, a web application which provides brokerage services for Uruguayan small businesses and entrepreneurs. The process is simple: the products are uploaded to the site, where a network of salespeople are in charge of promoting the products and generating demand for them.
This platform opens the doors for these small businesses looking to grow, enter new markets and reach wider audiences, all while being able to network with their peers and focus on their passion.

CONSUL: Helping local government increase transparency and citizen participation
The Mayor’s Office in Montevideo had the goal of providing its citizens with a participation platform where they could access public government information, as well as actively shape policies to improve city management through debates, proposals, participatory budgeting and collaborative legislation.
To effectively set up this new line of collaboration between the government and its citizens, the Mayor’s Office needed to customize and implement new functionalities to a leading open source platform called CONSUL. This Ruby on Rails citizen participation platform is used in more than fifty countries around the world and has a very large community around it.
Through a public tendering process, VAIRIX was selected to carry out the project. Our engineers worked side by side with the Mayor’s Office staff following an Agile workflow environment.
The platform was successfully launched and has received high engagement and praise from users.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
We’re a software agency that provides web development for clients across the globe. We work with everything from small startups to large organizations.
What challenge were you trying to address with VAIRIX Software Development?
We had a big account that wanted to bring in more engineers, but we were fully allocated at the time. We needed someone to expand our team.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We initially brought VAIRIX to help us with a project. Over the years, we’ve partnered with them for different clients. This project was about migrating an existing legacy code from Ruby on Rails to React.
We involved some planning for the project to establish some milestones, negotiate deadlines, and so on. However, they focused mainly on the development work.
What is the team composition?
Initially, we had three engineers for this specific project, but the number has grown to six engineers from their side.
How did you come to work with VAIRIX Software Development?
I think he’s not in the company at the moment, but we knew one of the founders from college. We’ve known VAIRIX since they started the business.
How much have you invested in them?
For this particular project, the cost was a little over $500,000. Throughout the years, we’ve spent between $750,000–$800,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working on this project in August 2021, and it’s still ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The most important metric we track is the end client’s happiness. So far, everything has been great, and the client is very satisfied. In terms of engineering core metrics, we don’t have any. We don’t know if their work is helping improve visibility or traffic.
How did VAIRIX Software Development perform from a project management standpoint?
They’ve done excellently. On top of the engineers, they also provide some account managers. Our communication has been fast and super efficient — they’re always on top of the little things. Overall, management has been perfect and super helpful.
We use Jira for project management and ticketing. Also, we communicate through Slack and weekly Zoom meetings.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They’re always on top of things, making sure that everything runs as smoothly as possible. Also, their flexibility is outstanding; they’re smooth at onboarding their engineers for different projects, practices, and ways of working. They always blend in and adapt.
After some time, they also started making suggestions for improvements, which is always nice. Overall, they differentiate from others in the way they’re able to add value from day one — it’s impressive.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, there’s nothing I can think of. They’ve been super helpful, and we’re very happy with our partnership.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Go for it. They have an excellent team that provides good quality code. Also, they’re less expensive than a high-quality agency from the US, so you get a lot of value for your money in terms of quality and development speed.

Please describe your company and your position there.
I'm the CEO of a company that offers tech support services and tech solutions for exceptional companies seeking for competitiveness around the globe.
For what projects/services did your company hire VAIRIX Software Development, and what were your goals?
At icorp, for more than 15 years, we've been selling qdoc mainly in Mexico but also in some Latin American countries, an in-house development that evolved into a Quality Management Software (QMS).
At the end of 2019 we started a project to develop Cordage, the evolution of qdoc, with a completely new team that would pursue the goal of creating a new cloud-based software with a global business approach. One year passed and we made many mistakes that led to several lessons learned.
In February 2021 I decided to take the leadership of the project and we started again. It took us 7 months to collect the software requirements and later we had the dilemma of growing the team and developing the software architecture with internal staff or, on the other hand, hiring experts who could help us build it quickly and without errors.
So, we began searching for specialized nearshore development agencies.
How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?
The search was done on the internet, we read lots of reviews and comparisons, references and ratings, which led us to identify around 10 agencies in the US, Mexico and LATAM.
Although I always recommended selecting one of the big ones, my technical leader from the beginning told me that Vairix responded quickly to messages, were always available, had a great attitude and showed an advanced technical level.
Describe the scope of work in detail, including the project steps, key deliverables, and technologies used.
The project had 3 main steps:
- The consultancy services for designing the Cordage Software Architecture in an AWS context, for a microservices setup.
- The development process to develop the Cordage Infrastructure as Code using AWS.
- The knowledge transfer process so that the Cordage Team can enable and disable the architecture at will, including maintaining and growing the design as needed.
How many people from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?
- 1 Software PM
- 1 Software Architect
- 1 DevOp
Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?
I didn't participate in the commercial sessions, but I assure you that the experience with Juan, Rey and Luis was extraordinary from start to finish. Rey gave us tremendous confidence during the architecture design sessions and we certainly missed his personality during the implementation.
Luis made us feel confident that the implementation was in good hands. The team was always available, consultative, and they worked with a great attitude.
Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.
Actually we worked on almost the entire project directly with the technical staff, it was not necessary to involve the PM very much since Rey (Architect) and Luis (DevOp) were fantastic. The project was handled using ClickUp and Slack.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
We had direct access to the whole team via Slack, it was really smooth working with Vairix, no waisted time or junk sessions. They made sure the entire architecture was fully operational on our AWS account.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
While the quality of work was great, I've told Vairix that they should improve the quality of the documentation. By the 3rd step of the project, during the Knowledge Transfer sessions, it was clear enough that they solved this issue, their documentation was delightful.

Outsourced Senior-Level Architect for Digital Marketing Firm
“The quality of VAIRIX’s engineering work is superb, so we won’t hesitate to work with them again in the future.”

the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the VP of engineering for Union Stream Media, a company that does digital marketing and websites in the real estate industry. We provide omnichannel digital marketing and content for real estate brokers, agents, and teams in the US and throughout North America.
What challenge were you trying to address with VAIRIX Software Development?
We saw the need to improve our operations and marketing. To do that, we needed to take the data we’d amassed over the years in our warehouses. We aimed to build a dashboard for our operations team that provided analytics and insights into our digital marketing performance segmented by region and customer type. One challenge was to implement that through our 500–600 real estate customers.
The biggest problem we had was the lack of sufficient senior-level React developers or frontend expertise. We had a budget and a timeline in which we needed to finish the project. Rather than hiring internal developers, we decided to partner with a company that could offer senior-level frontend engineers with React expertise to help us move quickly.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We had data and built a web-based app, so we wanted to have some separation of responsibilities. A couple of our core team members handled the API development. Then, VAIRIX’s resource came in and worked on the UX mock-ups that our product designer used to build the experiences we needed.
Given that we wanted our core team members to be focused, the resource shouldn't need too much hand-holding — we were upfront about that. We needed someone with senior-level expertise because our team needed that person to pull us along; we shouldn't be pushing someone along and checking up on them all the time. In other words, that resource needed to work independently within a cross-functional team to deliver us value.
At present, we’re still working on the project.
What is the team composition?
We've worked with a variety of people from VAIRIX. We’ve sourced one engineer from them, and they’ve provided additional staffing at no extra cost to us. To help that person come up to speed, their most senior-level architect has spent time each day with us. After about a month, that person has rolled off, and we’ve held regular account relationship calls with their CEO, CTO, and delivery manager.
How did you come to work with VAIRIX Software Development?
We’d worked with offshore companies for about ten years, and we had partners in Ukraine, India, Romania, and central American firms. As a result, we were no stranger to nearshore companies when we had this project. In the beginning, we went to our partners in Europe, but they didn’t have the senior-level expertise we wanted, though we liked their price point.
Eventually, we saw that as an opportunity to work with South American companies that offered logistical benefits. To accomplish this, we worked with a third party that served as an advisor to our business. He specialized in partnering companies with near- or offshore firms based on their needs. In other words, we found VAIRIX through the advisor who vetted several companies. They were one of the few companies that made it through the vetting process, and we ended up choosing them.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent between $50,000–$100,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started the project in February 2021, and it’s ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The project has gone so well that we’ve gotten their engineer up to speed quickly and built the dashboard. They’ve helped us pick up the development pace and gather momentum. Our team has also enjoyed their senior-level expertise, which their engineer has used to recommend architectural decisions and design changes that made the product better.
This has allowed us to focus on the things we’re good at, filling the gap we’ve identified when we decided to work on the project. Overall, the quality of VAIRIX’s engineering work is superb, so we won’t hesitate to work with them again in the future. They understand how to source and train talent.
How did VAIRIX Software Development perform from a project management standpoint?
They’ve been outstanding in this project. We give them high marks from a relationship perspective. In fact, the first engineer that we worked with has moved on to another opportunity, which happens in these types of projects. To resolve that, VAIRIX has quickly assigned another engineer and reinvested their time to help the transition period. I’ve expressed my concern on a call with their CTO, who said we would never walk alone — they’ve lived up to it and worked with us every step of the way.
What did you find most impressive about them?
We’re looking for small, tech-oriented companies, and we don’t want to pay for a lot of administrative overhead. Luckily, VAIRIX meets that, and they’re an engineering-driven company. Not every company is like that, so that’s a standout quality of theirs.
Are there any areas they could improve?
The closest thing to an area of improvement for them is that we’ve had a temporary loss of continuity because they’ve lost an engineer. However, that happens in this business. What matters is that they do the right thing when something like that happens. Overall, they’re growth-oriented, and I’m excited to see what happens to them in the future.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
If you’re looking for a tech-driven firm that understands engineering excellence, then you’re going to be happy with VAIRIX.

Describe their project management style, including communication tools and timeliness.
They have excellent communication. Timing, scope, and budget are thoroughly explained to us. They were perfect.
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
Punctuality and communication are some of the big things that impressed me about Vairix. They are always available when you need them. We are able to work out complex tasks with minimum miscommunications.
Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?
It would be great if they were more available after hours or on weekends.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I'm the CEO of the world's largest tee-time marketplace. We offer a B2B vertical software solution to other companies in the golf industry.
What challenge were you trying to address with VAIRIX Software Development?
We're experiencing a high level of growth, and we wanted to add qualified outside teams to help with development.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Our platform is based on Ruby on Rails, with some cloud-based elements. They help us scale up and scale out, and they're currently working on a second version with a React frontend. They're also refactoring Ruby-based code in the backend.
What is the team composition?
We work with a team of about four. We started small, and we'll probably add more in the future.
How did you come to work with VAIRIX Software Development?
We worked with them in the past on two other projects, and they're very skilled in Ruby on Rails. Hiring them was an easy choice.
What is the status of this engagement?
Our current collaboration started around May 2019, but we've worked together off and on over the past several years.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
They are very involved, and we're pleased with all that results from their diligence. They perform well, and they deliver. About three years ago, we started real-time testing their coding. They always score 100%, and they always help us find solutions and refactor our code.
How did VAIRIX Software Development perform from a project management standpoint?
They are in constant contact with our development staff, and we've never had any issue with their communication.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They're very collaborative, and they offer great benefits to us. The interaction is very important to us, and they take time to explain their process. They excel in all aspects of what we do, and I would recommend them to anybody.
Are there any areas they could improve?
We've removed several other teams from our portfolio for underperformance, but we are always happy to take the time to commend VAIRIX for the good work they do. They really shine, and there isn't anything we'd like them to improve.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m a co-founder and the general manager of Smartway, a telemetry company for the transportation industry. I handle all aspects of software and operations. Last year, we worked on a project for developing an agricultural and livestock management platform for an association of agricultural and livestock producers.
What challenge were you trying to address with VAIRIX Software Development?
We were selected to develop this platform and had to find someone to help with frontend development. We needed someone that could provide the latest technologies.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We used Angular, Angular 2, and several designs. They developed the frontend part and we handled the backend.
What is the team composition?
They assigned a project manager and two developers.
How did you come to work with VAIRIX Software Development?
We made an open call and several companies offered proposals using older frontend technologies, but we wanted to work particularly with Angular. VAIRIX Software Development showed us their portfolio and we liked it. They were also willing to adapt to our work methodology and budget. Theirs basically was the best technical and commercial proposal we received.
How much have you invested in them?
We spent $25,000 dollars.
What is the status of this engagement?
The project started a year and a half ago and was completed at the beginning of this year. After we implemented the project, they continued helping us with any issues or questions we had. We’re now in charge of maintenance but still contact them once in a while.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We’re still working with the client we developed the platform for and continue to improve it, however, the final result from VAIRIX Software Development was positive. The client is very happy with the platform, highlighting its usability and visuals.
How did VAIRIX Software Development perform from a project management standpoint?
I handled project management and found it very pleasant to work with them. Our requirements were quite vague, but they were open and available to us. We used Redmine to follow up on the project and Slack for daily communication. We also had meetings twice a week, which increased if we had anything urgent.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They were skilled at materializing the technical requirements of the project. Our client isn’t very tech savvy and had very specific requirements. Additionally, translating technical agricultural terms into a web project wasn’t an easy feat, but they managed to do a great job.
Are there any areas they could improve?
We constantly talked about anything that needed improvement during the project. For example, when we needed to accelerate a process, they added an additional programmer. They resolved everything that came up in a timely manner. It was a good experience.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
My company is Pragmagenia, and we’re focused on developing solutions to attend to large amounts of people, such as web and mobile applications related to customer and attention services. We automate these procedures, and we’ve implemented solutions for government sectors and institutions as well. We also offer cloud solutions, as well as client platforms, operations, and support. We plan on expanding to other sectors and industries in the future.
What challenge were you trying to address with VAIRIX Software Development?
We originally hired VAIRIX to develop different Ruby on Rails components in the procedures suite.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We used Rails 3.2 and other technologies, including JavaScript and CSS. This development was complex because the platform integrated several modules and the suite has five applications. It has a procedures and forms designer web tool, a billing and accounts management app, a portal for citizens and government officials to work on, the FC Service app server, and the FC Store app. They worked on these five modules which are integrated with Intalio, a BPMS [business process management system].
What is the team composition?
We interacted with a team of around 6–8 people throughout a couple of years. They provided support for the modules post-development, and they’ve also provided technical support, including for other Rails projects. We’re in constant communication.
How did you come to work with VAIRIX Software Development?
It was a coincidence. I was looking for a Rails developer in the Venezuelan market, and found one of Vairix’s founders while searching on different websites. Alvaro [CTO & Co-founder, VAIRIX Software Development] had lived in Venezuela, but was based in Uruguay. After I contacted him, we established a relationship with VAIRIX.
How much have you invested in them?
We’ve spent between $100,000–$200,000 throughout our relationship.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started our relationship in August 2011, and it is currently ongoing. We’ve worked with them for many years.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The product metrics showcase the high level at which VAIRIX delivers. The experience has been pleasant on several levels. The interaction with their senior and junior teams is satisfactory, fluid, and friendly, and our conversations are dynamic. Working with them is easy in comparison to experiences I’ve had with other Rails developers.
They assign their best resources to my projects on different levels. They also maintain our relationship by staying focused and dedicated to us. If I contact them for potential opportunities, they work as if I’ve already hired them. They discuss it, dedicate their time, and focus on the work without any contracts. The’re more of a partner than a service provider.
How did VAIRIX Software Development perform from a project management standpoint?
We used Pivotal tracker. For recent projects, we’ve been using a tool which I’ve actually integrated into my own company.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They have multiple capabilities. They work on several technologies, and they’ve made an effort to expand their skills to tackle web development projects. In the past three years, I’ve had discussions with them regarding Angular, React, etc.
Are there any areas they could improve?
There’s nothing I can mention. Our relationship has been satisfactory, and I’ve not looked for other partners. I always come to VAIRIX for any outsourcing projects.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the co-director at MOD in Uruguay. It’s a sales platform in which we develop, design, and manufacture furniture and allow clients to personalize some aspects of the pieces we offer.
What challenge were you trying to address with VAIRIX Software?
Our startup was financed and supported by a state-funded accelerator, so we had demanding timelines that needed to be met. We needed a company to help us deliver and build our unique furniture personalization calculator, which we wanted to sell through the platform.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We got in touch with VAIRIX 3 years ago to help with the web platform, and the following year, we updated it to a mobile app as well. The applications were developed on Ruby on Rails, Android, and iOS.
Since we sell furniture, we wanted to be able to access the backend in order to submit new products, prices, content, and customizations per client. We needed to allow every user that accessed our platform the ability to modify their furniture based on size, colors, etc. Then, the user had to be able to submit their order and the calculator would come up with a price based on their customizations.
What is the team dynamic?
I was personally in touch with 3 or 4 people across meetings but there were some changes throughout the project.
How did you come to work with VAIRIX Software?
We started working with another company but they weren’t able to meet our deadlines and requirements. We looked around again for Ruby on Rails specialists within the country, especially since there are a lot of developers for this technology here. We searched for a vendor that could work with our tight deadline and that’s how we found VAIRIX.
How much have you invested in them?
We invested around $10,000–$50,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in March 2014 and launched the platform in June of the same year. They still provide maintenance.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We’re very happy with them and still work together for maintenance and changes to the platform. They have our backs with problems such as credit card issues and such. The platform they built is as important to us as the company itself—without their development work, we wouldn’t exist as an e-commerce site.
How did VAIRIX perform from a project management standpoint?
We used Google apps—Google Calendar, Gmail, and Google Docs to track schedules and dates.
