Vélan Solutions, LLC developed our complete app solution. First, they created the graphical user interface (GUI). The team penetrated low-level OS programming techniques to detect and process audio frequencies from a set array and to synchronize a plurality of mobile devices.

Our requirements included receiving a sonic timing signal broadcasted to the mobile device. The apps adjust and synchronize internal timers on handheld electronics to make them responsive to sonic timing signals. When the system is used on every attendee’s phone in the venue, it can produce a large-scale visual effect.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The engagement has multiple components. The priority is our upcoming conference in November. Since I didn’t know how to manage the reservation system and payments, the team set up an Eventbrite account for the conference and taught me how to track the credit card submissions.

Having completed the Eventbrite component Vélan Solutions, LLC will now update our quarterly newsletter. Each newsletter is different with various authors. The team will offer templates that we can later customize as needed. In addition, we have a website that’s been in poor condition. We plan to add features, remove outdated items, update the look, and enhance its user-friendliness.

Even though he had much larger clients at the time, Vijay was very respectful of our budget and worked efficiently with us. They solved the Eventbrite portion in an intensive three-day period. Vijay cleverly diagrammed the credit card processing to help us understand how the platform worked. His expertise helped us slim down costs, which we appreciated as a nonprofit on a very tight margin. For our website, they’ve cleaned it up and made it more user-friendly. The team also came under budget for that deliverable.

How did Vélan Solutions, LLC perform from a project management standpoint?

Vijay is my knight in shining armor. He’s easy to work with and educates us as he leads the process. I can contact his team—call, text, or email—whenever I want because they are always available. Vijay made a smart business move to take us on while he worked on other large projects and still respond to us personally. Initially, I was somewhat anxious about making sure everything got done in a timely fashion, but they’ve done us proud on in every aspect of the engagement. Development has been early and under budget.

The team has a great sense of humor and no sense of superiority because we didn’t understand something. I walk into the office and I feel relaxed. We spend a lot of time in the field and wanted to automate the field inspection process via an app.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Since we’re often out taking photographs of properties, it’s important to label them correctly before uploading images to the system. We needed a solution that could manage the labeling tasks automatically, with different required categories like the front of the house, interior, exterior, and so on. In our first meeting with Vélan Solutions, they quickly grasped the value of our project and mapped out the development.

Our app runs on both iOS and Android and is aimed at users performing home inspections. It applies its own GUI to the camera, rather like a photo filter, so that the images can be labeled in real time. The user chooses the correct label category from a list, takes the photo, and it’s ready for upload.

What is the team composition?

I primarily communicate with their owner, Vijay, but I’ve met the whole team. For this particular project, there were three or four people involved at different stages.

How did you come to work with Vélan Solutions?

I received a recommendation from an IT person, who sent an introductory email to them with my company information. Once they responded, we moved forward with the project.

How much have you invested in them?

We’ve invested close to $27,000 USD.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with them from January–August 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The app has saved me anywhere between an hour and a half to two hours of work per day. I do four or five inspections a day and typically take 50 to 75 photos per inspection, so the automatic labeling saves easily 20 minutes per location. Physically labeling the photos after the fact used to be daunting and time-consuming, but now I’m at the point where I can even fit extra inspections into my schedule. This investment has really paid off.

How did Vélan Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?

Their response times were almost unbelievably prompt throughout the process. We communicated via email and occasionally shared files through Google Drive, and I’d get responses within two hours. Their team was very professional and created a nice, friendly environment. They’re a bright team of people.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They came in with no knowledge about my business but at the end of our initial meeting, it felt like Vijay was almost reading my mind in terms of how I wanted certain things to be done. He immediately suggested solutions that would optimize my workload. I’ve really enjoyed working with him.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the technical director at Logos E. We specialize in mobile video broadcasting, mainly B2BVB (business to business video broadcasting). We provide corporate solutions to secure and internalize video content, in addition to various consumer-based products.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Velion Solutions?

Following a negative experience with a past developer, who sold our codes to a different client, I was desperate to find a replacement team to support multiple projects for my company.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Vélan Solutions, LLC developed the backend of a web-based application and integrated it with a mobile scanning device from Zebra Technologies. Using infrared technology, sales assistants can scan a barcode to find a video detailing the product’s market and background information. With the web app’s analytics component, we can track when employers are watching videos, how long they watch them, and other relevant information. Additionally, their team assembled an internal solution for push notifications that didn’t use Google Technologies. Currently, they’re providing support and making updates to enhance the system.

What is the team composition?

I mainly communicated with Vijay (Founder, Vélan Solutions, LLC), who is based in Chicago. We’re also in contact with a resource working from India.

How did you come to work with Velion Solutions?

Our CEO is on the board of RPost, a solution that lets companies see if their emails have been read, whose technical director recommended we partner with Vélan Solutions, LLC. After a brief interview, we tasked them with a small project. We were very impressed with their performance.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in August 2017 and it’s an ongoing partnership.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’re currently in negotiation with Zebra Technologies. Because they liked the app so much, they want to use it as their official internal communication tool. With that in mind, we conduct very rigorous tests and immediately fix any bugs.

How did Vélan Solutions, LLC perform from a project management standpoint?

There’s a high level of communication and understanding between our teams. Mainly, we interact through email, phone calls, text messages, and Skype. So far, we haven’t used a project management tool because there hasn’t been a need for one. Their team is very responsive and consistently meets deadlines. Through productive discussions, we’re able to come up with new ideas and highlight any drawbacks.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m most impressed with their communication skills and the quality of their work. Additionally, our main point of contact is enthusiastic, passionate, and thorough in his approach to our partnership. We’ve had a fantastic experience.
